@LoominousShroominous 💯 Ya I didn't wanna post it public until they do. And yes, Will do. Thanks brother. *edit* there's lots of good clips from this podcast 😀
Snapping edits to the grid is something every metal drummer goes through these days. Even your favorite drummers from your favorite bands have had edits and grid snapping done on their records. The key to take away from this video is that there are those who are good enough that their playing translates well live and our boy Marco is one of them. Trying to call out musicians for "faking" technical 300+ bpm metal is by far one of the lowest hanging fruits of an argument to make. Especially at someone who's played live with countless world renowned extreme metal bands.
ps also, I think the video Marco released a couple years back that said raw & unedited" is what Mark is talking about here to. So you don't even have to know the lingo.
A song is usually recorded to a click track. Which is measured in Beat per minute. this lays an exact time "grid" over the song. When a human performs, there are imperfections , usually a drummer can hit slightly before or behind the click or subdivisions of the click. Snapping to the grid means that you are editing the drum hits to where they are perfectly aligned to the click and the correct subdivisions. This takes the human feel out of the drums but gives it perfect timing. I am personally not a huge fan of it because it just makes the drums sound programmed. It can be a crutch for sloppy drummers. In Marcos case he doesn't need it. Listen to some slayer from the 90s and then listen to something like beneath the massacre. you can hear the difference in a human feel and a heavily edited feel.
If a band wants to grid everything perfectly, they should just program a drum machine and call it a day. The only thing that makes music timeless are emotions that result in music that is not perfect. Cryptopsy none so vile is one example. They didn't even used triggers and that's why it's one of the most praised albums ever. Not metal album, but one of best of all ever.
@@Adrian_kal flo is sloppy but he's fucking amazing. I got to stand next to him and watch him play from lole 3 ft away. in like 1999 or 2000 ish, and it was unreal. They played with poison the well, origin and maybe candiria

Gridding is Quantizing, it matches hits to the bpm map, or grid as it’s known. That’s the simplest way to explain it.
