  • Alright guys, this is our trip from India which we loved very much into Sarawak, Malaysia, which we don't know yet, the eastern side of Malaysia. I am not sure if we are welcomed there or not, let's find out. After more than 3 months in India we are looking forward to seeing the eastern part of Malaysia, something we have never seen although we have seen lots of the peninsula in Malaysia. Let's find out guys. If things go right we will be back in India in a few months. Of course in this video you will see some corrupt individuals but in India we always felt welcome.

All Indian Airport Security is managed by CISF (Central Industrial Security Force) they are bunch of really salty force, I dont know why but its not just Airport's, I work in a SEZ (Special Economics Zone) and that too has CISF Security we have fights with them every alternate day for some stupid reason they will make rules out of thin air and their chain of command and escalation points are so bad its either you accept their out of air rules or wait for their officers to show up which might be after 3 to 4 hours by the time you loose you half day attendance at office. I have multiple written griveanced filled but no action has been seen Govt really needs to check on CISF personnels they are either really unhappy for some reason may be their pays or mismanaged/ill-treated by their officers.

Hello Ian, the airport is solar powered, but the people need some sunshine and become solar in their attitude, especially dealing with children. Though they are Indian ground staff at the checking in , they are agents for the Malaysian Airlines and have to abide by the rules of safely as decided by the carrier. Hey Ian, I feel like a family member is leaving the country as you are leaving India. Even on your way out, you gave us beautiful glimpses of the city you were in, and thanks for that.
Don't be irritated with me if I request you to not take it too personally, because this is not personal. My hand luggage has been checked (on international flights) part by part in the good old days when laptops were not that common. Laptop chargers, etc., were very suspect when the executive would even call her supervisor to take a look before she let me go. I was livid as I felt humiliated, but my well travelled husband explained things to me and calmed me down.
Once flying singapore airlines to Chennai, they took away some of mine and my mother-in-law's purchases claiming excess baggage and didn't allow that harmless stuff even when we offered to pay excess baggage. Once my co-sister's baggage was ripped open and Indian pooja items and kilos of curry powders were literally thrown away at a liberal middle eastern airport. Many of her acquaintances have had similar experiences. And we were all educated, employed people who travelled from time to time.
You know very well that oils, perfumes, sprays, lighters, knives, match sticks, syruppy sweets, etc. are not allowed in hand baggage or even in checkin baggage. And batteries are the most suspicious of them all.
India is at risk from many quarters and sometimes we are somewhat paranoid about safety. I was talking to a friend who works at the airport and he said, sometimes they have a tip off and are particularly on the lookout in a certain category. And even if the passenger is questioning, they cannot speak about it. More often than not, smuggling or attacks happen through innocent looking people by design or otherwise and they cannot discount anything because ultimately, it is about our own safety. Right? So, better safe than sorry. I think.
These personnel are paid well, though over worked at times. So I can't say for sure, but this may not be corruption. Also, they are always under camera surveillance, so rest assured that they will be pulled up if found wrong. It can be a case of a rude individual, that is possible.
You have every right to complain and complain vehemently, that is an absolute given. However, as this has happened this once, please treat this as an exception rather than as a rule. We know for ourselves that we are good and harmless, but they do not right? They better find the bad ones and secure our and our family's lives? Sometimes we too have to go through a bad experience, probably for our own good and safety?
Ian, I request and welcome you all back to India very soon again. I regret the hurt this has caused you all and hope this sort of a thing does not recur with you.
Enjoy your travelling, have a great time. Thank you for visiting us🙏🙏!!

    • @tanujakumari1995

Also batteries are mostly not allowed in the checkin baggage due to the contents being somewhat risky. They are allowed in hand baggage though, but at times come under scrutiny. I pray don't take this as a personal affront, as in my opinion it is not meant to be so.
Also it does not matter if you are entering or exiting the country, it is about the safety of the flight. While entering, you have anyway alighted the flight and therefore stops to matter. Cheers 😊

I've flown out of there several times but never had as horrible an experience with security as I did two days back (spent 1.5 hours there). Of all things, my daughter's toy stuffed giraffe came under special scrutiny! I later realized that some of this probably has to do with the G20 summit scheduled to be held in India. On another note, *always* remember that Indian airports don't allow you to go out once you get in, even if you haven't checked-in your luggage (ask me how I know). This becomes a hassle if you arrive too early for a flight, because baggage check-in counters don't open any earlier than approx. 3 hours before the flight departs.

its never a stealing or bribe as you mentioned, it has nothing to with foreigner or local. its all about security measures those people are highly paid central government employees they don't care you are foreign, local, regional so these securities are from all over India. Southern personals will be placed in North Indian states and vice-versa its to avoid the local connection and local sentiments and to enforce the protocols they are assigned to that's all they don't make any exception for local or foreigner. if an exemption is made for a foreigner and then locals too except the same if not its called discrimination. After all, as an Indian and and a Keralite i have seen and experience how a Indian tourist is treated and a western tourists is treated in many European and southeastern countries and most of the places the western privileges' still exist. Good to see that Indian security follow what they are assigned to do without any discrimination/privileges . but sad that your children had to go through it. if you did a little read up you could have avoid them going through it. so please don't demean their work by saying "corruption" yes its there in some areas but not in every sector especially not in the armed forces or security agencies. Happy days ahead cheers.

Don't feel annoyed about the procedure that one has to undergo in the airport for security reasons. This has been the practice in almost all airports in the world. you could have kept the toys in the luggage which is permitted. only thing is it is not permitted in the hand baggage for obvious reasons. Also the food stuff will be costly in airports as you know. You could have taken the food outside. There is a hotel within the airport compound which is very reasonable and do not charge much.

in 2010 or 2011 , I was flying out of Kochi Airport , arriving at the airport , they wouldn't let me in - the airport building - because I didn't have my flight itinerary printed , I had it on my laptop , i showed them the digital copy , they say NO - they wanted it printed on paper , of course by these power trip "military" guys. then they start lecturing me that i should always carry my printed flight itinerary. I argued back of course , cause it wasn't told beforehand that you need a printed itinerary even though i had a flight paid & booked! miraculously an air line staff (same airline my booked flight) was passing by , I managed to to ask for his help , poor guy was trying to help us but the military guys told him off that he won't listen to him & he should get the manager from air line to come & sort it out. so the manager came , tried to talk to them and again I showed my digital flight itinerary on my laptop , they still wouldn't let me in! in the end the manager went back to his office and printed me a brand new "physical" flight itinerary! and finally they let me in! all this took more than an hour - for a piece of paper! - we haven't even checked in yet , Kochi Airport - stay classy! 😂

Update: April this year we were in Loas, visited an old pottery village, beautiful old kiln, bought a few little bits, one of them a small clay painted black Gecko, We arrived in India mid june, have taken 3 domestic flights since, 1st one no problem, 2nd got pulled, bag searched, found Gecko, had a look, saw it for what it was, gave it back. 3rd flight (Bangalore)- got pulled & searched, found offending item, threw it in a bin, l made a big complaint, got senior officers involved, they went looking for the tiny clay painted black Gecko, by then it seemed that the bin had been cleaned/cleared. Funny that! :(

Even Indians are treated by govt employees same way. These are govt employees and irrespective of department they all think they are god (trying to recover the money they bribed to get the govt job). That is why govt tries to take contracted employees. Unfortunately these are security related and so they won't be outsourced employees and hence they would be arrogant. They would have a sense of over entitlement for being arrogant and hence aggressive. In general, Indians way of niceness is not what western and other asian countries identify with apart from language barrier which even affects communication among Indians itself as there is no common language used. Also many of them are not very clear on rules too and they don't get clarity from top. They also want to keep these stuff but I think they are auctioned together over a span of one year or so. There are also other factors like communist govt of kerala was smuggling gold etc. and central govt has given airport maintenance to a company (Adani) who must have got instructions to check thoroughly. Political factors also there. Sorry to hear your problems. But it is what it is. :) Only continuous feedback can only change things. Last thing which may cool you down is that India is under continuous threat of terrorist attack. So if security isn't taken seriously, these guys may loose their job. So some previous incidents may lead to this kind of confiscation of toys etc. to avoid any mishap. But it is true that Indian govt will not bother about general inconvenience to public. So only way is to deal with it patiently and hope to make it better through continuous feedback (no use as corruption is at peak & they don't care). Take care. good luck.
