Hello my dear Michael! Your work is simply amazing and wonderful! You really give the "touch" that every shoe deserves! You work miracles my friend! A big hug!!
I really appreciate it! It turned out so unique. I love them and wish it was my pair. Not sure if I can but I really want to try and duplicate this for myself.
@@mbshoedoc I can see that. Well thank you for this video. I was trying to learn how to use the Saphir mirror gloss. Not only your video was the easiest to learn from but also the quickest method. Thanks again and great content. 🙏👌👍
They look great. To save time and guesswork you can read up on color theory and get a color wheel…. purple/violet will tone that down because it’s the complement (opposite) to yellow; Otherwise you’re just covering the old color (rather than ‘cancelling’ it). That brassy yellow wants to keep shining through.
Love this pair Michael! Your Instagram & youtube videos inspired me to try my own patina on some beaten up 7-year-old oxfords. I mustered up the courage and had a crack today with a handful of Fiebings dyes & acetone. They're certainly NOT on the same level as yours (plus I'm waiting on some neutral mirror gloss to finish them off 😂), but they look better than they did before so I'm happy with my newly patinaed mahogany oxfords and new hobby! Keep up the great work 😁👍
I really appreciate it and love that you were inspired to give it a go. I think it's a fantastic hobby and something that anyone could do. Hit me up on the Gram and let me see the outcome 👍.
bro, i literally just stumbled upon this channel because i saw it in my recommends. amazing channel. great alternatve to the now bigger channels like kirby allison and the elegant oxford. best of luck, i hope to see you grow it more. FWIW, i recently dyed my own pair of dress shoes for the first time from cognac to dark brown with saphir teinture francaise. it wasn't easy, and i had to remove the finish a few times with the decapant, but i eventually got a satisfactory result.
@@mbshoedoc cheers for the reply. i definitely want to check out your other vids. i didn't realize how intricate this stuff is until i tried it myself, so i have a lot of respect for your craft.
@@lullemans72 there is certainly a learning curve to it. I practiced on a number of eBay pairs and then my own long before touching a clients shoes. I was terrified on my first client patina 😂
Nice!! I'm a big fan of Santoni as well. I have worked on a number of pairs and they are fantastic. I have two more in the process now...more videos to come soon 👍
Sweet, look forward to seeing them. I started to hand patina a lot of my non-black Santoni shoes, wow what a difference it makes. I learned a lot from your videos and have sent many to your RUclips channel after they see me wearing these shoes. Good stuff, thanks and keep em coming!
Your method to give this pair of shoes more depth was quite good but I find above the medallion area the left shoe was a bit lighter than the right one. Maybe it's just my tv but having said that overall the transformation was quite good. 👍😎
That is possible. Something like this wouldn't bother me especially on a such a mottled patina. I think if it was a flat factory coloration a mismatch would really stand out and be an issue. For me the shoes should match but not be perfectly symmetrical. Now if it was noticeable while wearing them then it could easily be fixed with a bit of darker cream polish on the vamp of the left shoe. As I watched the video again it did appear a bit lighter but I don't have the shoes on hand anymore to really assess them. Keen eye my friend.
Not my preferred color scheme, I am rather conservative with shoe colors but man you did a great job repairing those shoes because the initial color scheme was just way off.
I greatly appreciate it. This one was a rather bold and unique cobblestone patina but I really liked the outcome. I have plenty of more conservative Patinas as well though 👍.
Not sure why I didn't remove them and should have. I don't think it had any negative effect on the patina though. And I hate to think the lace issue is all you got out of the video?
Honestly for the finishing wax I like it better than Saphir. I have no idea what it is but it gives a final shine better than anything I have tried. I still like mirrorgloss or Pure polish high shine for building the base. I don't know if Carmina actually produces wax...I doubt it. My guess is it is rebranded wax from some other maker. It smells different than anything I have encountered. It has a slightly sweet smell to it like some carnauba car wax or something.
Great work as always 👏 👍. Did you have any emails or way to contact you, I have brand new pair of their I will like to do some patina? I hope you answer. Thanks
Me in those shoes With a brown herringbone slack And the most righteous plad purple shirt Black and brown Borsalano hat All alone with a 100 yr old glass of brandy
Not sure why that's so funny. Pure acetone has less odor than renomat and really doesn't bother me. Not saying acetone smells like flowers but renomat is 3x worse for me personally. Maybe others will have a different experience. Have you tried both?
@@mbshoedoc Just breaking balls. They're both fragrant products to me, so it kind of came out like, "Damn, I hate the taste of lemons. But you know what is good? Limes."🤣
@@richardgivher835 No worries my friend. I get where your coming from. I think I am a bit overly sensitive because I pour a lot of time and energy into the project and I was really proud of this outcome.. Then to produce a video beyond that...Its a lot of work. I just didn't want the smell of renomat vs acetone to be what someone takes a way from this. It is rather funny though now that you point it out. ;)
@@mbshoedoc These shoes, in my opinion, are some of the best I've seen. I think the marbled patina ones done on The Elegant Oxford and these are neck and for my favorite so far.
Not sure exactly what you're saying here. I tend to start with the more mild options first and when that doesn't work I move on to something more harsh. In this case though the pure polish can actually strip wax better than acetone but it won't strip the dye enough. Pure polish then acetone works well. I don't think I ever said I wasn't going to use acetone. Hope that better explains the thought process.
Turned out fantastic, almost has a metallic patina to it!
Thank you very much. I really want to do one for myself like this.

What do you charge for shinning?
Does my head in in when people don't remove the laces I mean how long does it take and what's the idea of dying on an area that hasn't been prepared
