      Interestingly enough, I use the long E-flat fingering. I don’t believe the short fingering was presented in the book I used to learn to play each note. That said, it won’t hurt to try the short fingering. I’ll see if it’ll work on the bassoon I have.

    I am considering taking up the bassoon because I am fascinated with the show Sesame Street, and they have a lot of "punchline" musical interludes that involve a bassoon. I can play keyboard and trombone by ear, so I may have a local bassoon teacher show me some fingerings so I can try replicating the bassoon parts in those Sesame Street punchline interludes.

    I can play all of the woodwind instruments except for bassoon. I never knew how to turn it to play any notes. This video helps. Now the fingering, WOW! I will leave it alone. As for beginners, I doubt that there are any young band programs that would start students on bassoon. More than likely, they learn clarinet, flute, or saxophone first.

    • @BuildingaBassoonist
      @BuildingaBassoonist  Год назад

      Great question! Because many people who pick up the bassoon for the first time (at least in the U.S.) are in some type of band ensemble either in a school or community setting. Band keys require us to be very comfortable in Bb major. It’s unfortunate that both Bb and Eb are trickier notes for beginners, but that’s why I wanted to provide some help with those particular fingerings in this video. If you can learn Bb and Eb, the other ones will come easily. 😊

    Please is it in the case of every Bassoon? I am asking because the first five notes you talked about make deferent sounds on the Bassoon that I am learning, FBT Olympic, when I play open note with the whisper key F, it sounds Aflat on the Bassoon I am learning. Could it be that it is in a different key? Please help.

    • @BuildingaBassoonist
      @BuildingaBassoonist  2 года назад

      It is the same on every bassoon. It could be that there is something wrong with your bassoon (most likely) or your reed. Has your bassoon had maintenance in the last 2 years? If not, take it to a repair shop. Also make sure that you’re playing with reeds made by a professional bassoonist as some “student” quality reeds make it difficult to play the right pitches. Hope this helps!

      @@successtsribi988 if that’s the case, it sounds like your bassoon might not be very good. There are some cheaper models of bassoons that are not made well and have issues that make them difficult to play.
