today's topic touched upon something that has bothered me for some time now: the number of newly minted therapists thinking the way to change the world is to work with every client through the lens of social justice (meaning, indoctrinating them), rather than serving as a supportive resource for working through life's challenges. Definitely much more can be said about how today's families immediately send their kids to a doctor or therapist, and as mentioned, it is a result of professionalism and our medical system taking over areas of life that used to be served by the church and community. This trend began several decades ago, but I think things like we're seeing now -- particularly coaching and alternative forms of medicine that work outside the system -- are a healthy response to a bloated medical industrial complex that has become destructive in its aims. Looking forward to next week's conversation!
Around the 56 min mark when Leslie gets into how families are treated by “experts” and medical system of bullying into meeting their standards. Glad you had the chance to express all that out to the people listening.
Regarding the patient who wanted a Zionist therapist, it’s possible the person asking rephrased the request to specify a Zionist. I would guess the person looking for the therapist mostly wanted a place to talk about the situation and the fallout post 10/7 and has seen how the pro Palestine community has acted since the attacks. But I even understand explicitly wanting a Zionist therapist in these times, esp if the stress/anxiety / grief you are experiencing stems from something you have gone through or continue to go through as a result of that issue. As a Jew I can say that since 10/7 there has been an intense feeling of betrayal, a lot of fear and a type of grief that someone may only feel safe to share with a person who is at least sympathetic to their views because it has been so incredibly divisive. There are things that we as Jews don’t feel safe opening up about in the wake of the reaction to the attacks. So many relationships have been lost and I can easily see how someone would want the therapeutic relationship to at least be secure from that angle.
After seven years of working as an individual therapist with adults and children, I feel the need to pivot and take a break. The constant pressure of expectations that I, as a social worker, should have the all the knowledge and answers to the vast array of psychological problems people present with on a daily basis is too much and leads to burnout. Many people have unreasonable expectations about the therapy process and see it as a catchall solution to virtually any life problem, which it is not. Now I can completely understand and appreciate why providers specialize, because being a generalist is ineffective and overwhelming.
I think it's important to be aware we are all ideologically driven. I'd hazard a guess all the people in this group are Classical Liberal. Classical Liberalism is vulnerable to being dismantled by the Woke. AND a lot of formerly liberal online commentators are waking up to the fact that Classical Liberalism has no "backstop" and relies on its popularity to a large extent because of its lack of a moral base.

This falls into other realms as well. As a male I have found it discouraging to find a therapist I can relate to, especially now. Just look at this panel..... I guess not everyone gets someone who they'd feel more comfortable talking to. This bias there is extreme, and political. It's not just about zionism, it's about a lot of other things. may who don't go to therapy, therapists will never know why.Think o f al the other controversial topics, people believe strongly in things and if therapist and patient are not aligned, it won't work. Some see therapists "too woke" and others see therapists as "not woke enough". And others see psychology as pseudoscience. And then some of us question 'therapy' itself. lonely people have to talk to a surrogate 'friend". Some just needs friends, not therapists and prescriptions.
much ideology, social justice is at least partially corrupted... but some of, many of the people being accused of hostility to 'jews' are jewish themselves, I love the objectivity and openmindedness you cast elsewhere, but the propagandized, oversimplification with with which this issue is analyzed is disappointing, repulsive in fact, speaking of which another matter that irked me many shows past, with which most will not agree... the idea that states are not liable to the same laws or moral code as individuals, is the same kind of stupid...! we must deserve our relative, essential slavery... vote harder...

What a wonderful show and great insights today. The sooner we can end the iatrogenic mental health system the better.

Great conversation, ladies. So much great content on this channel and free flowing discussion with sound minds. Off to store... hungry 😿

Thank you Jenny - your perspective is spot on.
Jenny, your dog is so sweet!
It can be intimidating to find a therapist as an adult.

I lean toward classically liberal practices like free speech or due process, but I recognize that probably isn't sufficient as an operating system.
What is wokeism's moral base? Open borders? Abolition of private property? Relativism? That seems to be how it's portrayed to me.

I'm not sure I understand your criticism but I'm interested in what you're saying.
