Haha, thanks buddy 😄🤜🏻🤛🏻
Maybe a couple more RUclips videos to be sure😂😂
Hahaha, thanks 🤜🏻🤛🏻😉

Crazy how he stares directly into your Soul to make sure you really understood the important steps
Hallo Jakob, ganz genau 😉😶
Can we appreciate how he soaked himself that’s one feeling you don’t want in the cold
Thanks mate 🤠😅🤜🏻🤛🏻
The most informative in the shortest time, with one trick I had never imagined - the sauna, all under self-imposed, real world duress - without being a chatterbox about it like most of the others.
Hey Rico, thank you for your very motivating comment! Really glad you enjoyed it and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻🤠
Great teaching. Very creative. Excellent production value. A cut above the rest. Thank you.
Thanks buddy, really glad you enjoyed it. 🙏🏻🙂 Have a nice weekend and rainy greetings from Germany, Martin 👍🏼🤠
I learned More in this 11:20 minutes then in 30 minutes from another vídeos with much bla bla bla.
Thank you mate!
Thanks Mate, I really appreciate your words. Very motivating! Cheers and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
The poncho sauna is ingenious! I was weighing up whether to include tea candles in my bug out - now definitely yes. Thanks.
Thanks mate, glad you found the video useful. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Just got my own poncho tarp and have been looking at videos to see different ways to use it - this is by far the best video I’ve seen! Entertaining and informative.
Thanks, buddy! Glad that you liked it and great that you got a poncho yourself! Please let me know if you have any questions, I am happy to help. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Seems like you would just wear the poncho before pouring the water over your, lol. KISS! but it was entertaining and informative, thanks for sharing.
Hahaha, right. I messed up with the sequence 😂💪🏽 Thanks buddy, glad you enjoyed it 👍🏼 Stay safe and Cheers, Martin 🤜🏼🤛🏼🤠
Dang dude, that's gotta be one of the very best, to the point instructional videos on surviving w/ poncho or tarp. Very impressive. Thanks.
Thanks Mate, really appreciate your feedback and I am glad that you found it interesting. Thank you big time and cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
I recently brought a poncho just like this. So far I've only tried an A Frame configuration and I'm really pleased with it. These ponchos are excellent and I look forward to trying some other setups.
Thanks mate! I totally agree. I love the versitality of this piece of gear. Cheers and have fun trying out even more configurations. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Where can you buy them
@@allenarquette3838 I hear maybe China 😂
I got mine from a comrade, but you can find them on eBay. Cheers, Martin
Excellent vid and I like the music (some have commented that they don't). The whole vid conveys a sense of urgency, and being stealthy because something has happened. Which is exactly why I EDC my poncho (Dutch Army) if I'm carrying a bag, which serves as a get home bag, in case of some event meaning I can't get home by usual means and have to go on foot, and maybe find a patch of wooded ground to hunker down in.
Just watched a few minutes of another vid where he very skilfully set up a perfect poncho shelter, but it took more than 20 minutes, and that's just what he edited. In an emergency you would be stressed, maybe hungry and lacking in energy, and maybe lacking in time to make a perfect shelter, especially if it's started to rain, or you're just feeling cold.
Hence, as you say, KISS - keep it simple. If I'm actually going out into the ''wilderness' (I'm in the UK so it's more countryside than wilderness) I have my larger basha (shelter sheet) or tarp, plus a bivvy bag, sleeping bag, and ground mat, and other gear to make my life comfortable.
Thank you for your feedback! I will definitely have a look at the dutch army poncho. Personally I would like to have a slightly larger poncho compared to the US Army version.
Thank you again and cheers to beautiful UK!
Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@@BushcraftBuddy The Dutch poncho measures 2.05 x 1.5m. It may be larger than the US poncho, as the Dutch are the tallest people in the world. It's certainly very robust. Also I find the DPM camo works very well in NW Europe.
Thank you, I have measured the US poncho and it seems they are comparable in size (215 x 160). Cheers 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Ponchos are so light and easy to carry so pack 2 you wont regret it.
True, sometimes I also carry garbage bags. They are even lighter and smaller.
I love my poncho, it's given me shelter in wilderness from coast to coast border to border and Alaska.
Thank you Patrick! Sounds like you have seen most parts of the United States. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Actually quite informative but entertaining as well. Gained some ideas from your video. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, David! Really glad you liked it and thanks for your comment! Cheers Mate 🤜🏼🤛🏼🤠 Martin
The bivvy is really the best idea. It keeps warm and dry. Thanks man 👍🏻
Thanks Andreas! Glad you found it useful and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
Well done so concise without int all the padding and waffle it actually sinks in.
Great tutorial
Thank you Kenneth, really appreciate your words! Cheers and glad you liked it, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
I love the candle tip so much. Saw it first here, for sure.
Glad you liked it! Thank you for your comment and cheers, Martin 😉
That's the trick now. Finding a genuine USGI Poncho.
Haha, this is true 😉
I would leave the music out of the video or have it fade after a few seconds. Just hearing the sounds of nature and camping being set up would be better. Nice scenario!
Thank you for your comment. I completely agree and have already changed the style of my videos. This is one of my old videos. Thank you and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
That's so awesome!
Thank you my friend! Really appreciate your words and glad you found the video useful. Cheers and all the best, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
Pragmatic and easy-to-understand videos.
Thank you from Japan.
Thank you, really glad you like them. Cheers to beautiful Japan, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Yes, as he said make sure you get a Good Quality, properly sized poncho... I'm a veteran and was able to purchase direct from the US manufacturer ORC Industries Wisconsin two New OD Green ponchos 90"x65" which is what is needed for proper shelter. The ACU camo ponchos are also available for the aesthetically challenged. Finding "New" or New condition US made GI ponchos are almost impossible to find. Those that are available sell for $100 +... great video !
Edit... finding New WOODLAND Camo ponchos...
Jolly good show! 🤠
Good bush craft tips also.
Thank you David, glad you liked it and cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
Exactly what i was looking for. Exactly the lessons i needed.
Thank you, really glad you liked it! Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
The Hooch , Sauna and Bivvy were flawless....;)
Glad you liked it and cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Good performance, greetings from Germany

Most important lesson I've learned by watching this... in such a situation, I will need somebody with your skills on my side. 😅
Mitico 😀al posto di parlare un ora in pochissimo tempo hai creato una vera situazione di emergenza e la hai risolta 🙂 complimenti!
Mille gracie! Glad you liked it and all the best, Martin 😊🤜🏻🤛🏻
I just watched a lot of poncho tent videos on RUclips and your approach was very informative and simple compared to other videos. Two knots is all you need to know! K.I.S.S. keep it simple stupid.
Hi David, thank you, really appreciate it 🙏🏻 Yes, I try to keep it simple so you know what to do even if you are stressed, injured or tired. Glad you like it and Happy Easter! Martin 🤜🏼🤛🏼🤠
zero nots; hitches.

Thank you 😉
The best emergency shelter video I have seen. Thank you.
Glad you liked it and cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
Very informative and very practical. This is part of the U.S. Army that should be taught on a regular basis. Very crucial for 11B in jungle environment (like me in Fort Polk) lol
Hey Chris, thanks buddy! Really glad you found it practical. Cheers and all the best in Fort Polk, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Outstanding video. Will definitely refer people to it to show what right looks like!
Thank you my friend! Really appreciate that and cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
I would have complained about the music sooner, but I just found your video now. Cool vid, thanks for sharing! Sorry about your head injury. Love the poncho sauna because that is so very practical and simple! I'm gonna try that on the back porch right now (-4C/24.8F). Without even asking, I need a better poncho. Cheers!
Thanks buddy 💪🏻🤠 Glad you enjoyed it. This is one of the things that I had to learn the hard way. It is best to get a solid military issue poncho. They are a bit heavier but are super sturdy when you really need them. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@@BushcraftBuddy thanks for the inspiration Budd! I have a Tomshoo poncho but I just ordered a Mil-Tec ripstop/waterproof one that had quite decent reviews. I guess I now have a decent inexpensive spare to loan to a needy soul camping in the rain. Thanks again, and play safe!!
Thats the spirit, sharing is most fun. 🤠💪🏻 cheers bud and stay safe, Martin
Great video- practical and not overcomplicated.
Thank you my friend!
Pretty good video. Comments: 1. Add a woobie to your kit. 2. Add a large paper clip, several safety pins, 25' of mason string, and greased cotton in a baggie to your altoids can. The clip can slide into the hinge of the can and hold the lid straight up making it an excellent reflector at night. Use a drip of wax to glue the candle into the can. 20 years ago, I had bunch of scouts playing with these at night and they worked real well. 3. Treasure the poncho. When I was in the Army, new ponchos were $6 at QM Sales so I bought 2 for myself to take home. It only took 40 years for them to disintegrate. 4. Add several 2" shingle nails to your stake bag. I prefer to set up a poncho against a fallen tree so that I've already got a wall on one side. 5. Add the canteen/cup/pouch/stove/halizone/utensils set up to your kit. 6. Look at upgrading your emergency blanket to an AMK Heatsheet. They are bigger, stronger, and quieter than mylar. MidwayUSA carries them. Good Luck, Rick
Hey Rick, thank you big time for sharing your experience and your input. I actually have a woobie in the meantime and love your other ideas. Thanks buddy and cheers from Germany, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@@BushcraftBuddy Ja das ist gut danke

I love this video so much and I've learned so much from just watching VS listening.
New Subscriber here. I've checked out your other vids and they're good too. My only suggestion is to have background music, like you did for this video. A lot of ppl these days are attention deficit, thanks to the advent of social media.
Background music kinda hypnotizes ppl into being engaged, to an extent.
Thank you for your content and I look forward to seeing more of your content! I want to see you hit 100k subscribers, I know you will.
Thank you big time for your wondwerful comment. It is really motivating to me!
Thank you also for your suggestion to use background music. I have used it in the past and tried to focus more on the sounds of nature. I will rethink that point, thank you!
All the best and have a great week, Martin 😊
So viele gute Tipps! Nehme ich alle mit!
Danke, freut mich 💪🏻
Great instruction video! I learned some cool tricks! Side note: I noticed how bad M81 camo really is. It doesn't blend well and it doesn't break up the shape either.
Very well made video, love your attitude and the compacted nature of all the info. Wouldnt work if you didnt get all the important info on screen, so thanks for that! Keep it up, I feel a lot more capable with my poncho
Thank you big time! Glad you enjoyed it and cheers 🤜🏻🤛🏻

All setups using only one length of cord and minimal pegs! Very simple 👌.k x
Thanks buddy, gmqd you liked the simplicity! Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
Simple and informative as it should be
Thanks Mate, glad you liked it. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
If tarp, poncho,or anything is. touching you or material in most conditions, you will get wetter from condensation or rain blown into the space. All of these will work in dry conditions,in wet get some clearance between you and shelter material, and get something to close off ends as much as possible. In British Army Infantry, my poncho had a cover over one end.
Thank you, I also made the same experience. I wish the standard military poncho would be slightly larger. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Awesome video , I learned alot from this for my new coming bushcraft video. Thank you man

Another great video. One of the best ones on tarp/poncho shelter. I too like the keep it simple approach!
Thanks mate, really appreciate this! I also do, especially when you are stressed it is good to have some simple knots.
@@BushcraftBuddy where abouts in Germany do you film? I spent my childhood in Munster wonderful happy times fantastic country!

this is by far the best minimal setup i have seen. theres no fucking around with unessecary things. only thing id add would be a small compass but im assuming you have that on your watch. i also had the poncho sauna idea! nice video.
Thanks Buddy. Yes indeed, I have one in my watch. Didn't mention it since I thought it is not so relevant for shelters. Really appreciate it 🙏🏻 Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻
Parabéns pelo vídeo e pela atuação faça mais vídeos usando o mínimo de material possível 👏🏻👏🏻
I am impressed by your production. You really do have to be careful with music though...no matter what it is, a lot of people won't like it.

The wedge or plow is great for filming but not useful in the field. Would get wet and rained on if the rain blows in from that side. Stake all 4 corners down to the ground and pull the middle up and slip underneath it. You can't see the person inside there but it's a 100% dry from every side. Not good for filming on RUclips though. Pro tip, use bungee cords and pile straw and leaves all the way around the outside to seal in heat. If you have a camo net you can throw that over the top too along with natural foliage and be completely invisible. It also protects you from thermal vision from above. Work smart not hard gentleman. Stay safe out there. Good video.
Thanks for your feedback, yes from the setups I have shown I also prefer the "hooch". I believe this is the shelter you have in mind. Indeed I swapped to bungee cords recently.
Cheers and all the best 🤜🏻🤛🏻
@@BushcraftBuddy I was a paratrooper for years and years when I was younger and the square hooches were the only thing that we used and they were super effective in every environment as long as they were kept below 18 inches high at maximum. Really appreciate your making these videos. You did an excellent job.
@@scienceMicroguy77 In the British Army we had ponchos too and slept 2 under 1 extended using the buddy buddy system, with one under us a a groundsheet, very low, but still exposed to wind etc. The hooch is perfect for one guy who needs to get completely out of the elements. But I still find the plough point useful in the field, in civvy street, although I am still stealthy (have to be as I'm rarely on an official campsite). Reason being you don't always make a shelter to sleep under, maybe you need just some cover from wind and rain for a couple of hours, to make some hot scoff (food) or a brew (hot drink) to get down your Gregory Peck (neck). In such a situation the plough point is ideal, you pitch it tail into the wind and adjust the height according to your needs. Btw respect to you for being a Para. Climbing on top of the landrover to cam up was about as high as I ever felt comfortable being.
start all rope uses with clove hitch! then other end taught line hitch. After sleep place, set up small fire to warm body and dry clothes. good time to drown some ration. sleep in dry clothes. if wood is soaked, gather enough for your needs. construct a fire wall to reflect heat toward sleep area. gather some bark that inside is dry, rough it up and strike a flame small ground twigs will ignite, keep building up fire to your needs..
Hey Rick, great comment buddy! I also use the clove hitch a lot. Tried to keep it as simple as possible for a survival situation. Exactly a fire reflector with a long fire goes really nice. Even if the wood is really wet. Thanks Mate, you really know what you are doing and have a lot of experience. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻🤛🏻🤠

Ditch the ridge line on the A frame. Tie the cords from the center grommets to the trees directly or better yet, use the OD bungee cords from Brigade Quartermaster or whoever is selling them now. You don't need a ridgeline. B Co 4th Bn 27th Inf 88-92 Lightfighters! and Wolfhounds, by God!
Thank you Randy, this is another good option. What I like about the ridgeline is that it puts less stress to the poncho or tarps in general. Not a problem for tis G.I. poncho but something to be considered for lower quality gear. Cheers, Martin 🤜🏻 🤛🏻
