Yes...Home, hose down the muddy stuff...take a hot shower...have food delivered...wrap up in your favorite blanket and put on your favorite movie. Also, rest in the knowledge that your fans here on RUclips appreciate you for putting up with rain, mud and lack of sleep, so we don't have to. Love you, Andy!!!

In basic training back in the day, although we were using two shelter halves together ,we placed a little dirt around the side edges of the tents, not the opening, then entrenched mini moats around each tent for water to runoff, where we would create a single trench connecting channel to the next tent’s moat, creating a series of “figure 8” Moats running down the slope of the hill, hopefully no water getting in the tents🎉

    • @jamesellsworth9673

Alas, today's eco-community frowns on entrenching. But Andy has a dedicated woodland so other later visitors would not be disadvantaged.

@@jamesellsworth9673 They're far too worried about minor things. A small trench won't end the world or destroy the migratory patterns of the European flying sloth beetle. Respecting the environment is critical, but being a weirdo about it is just goofy.

When on manoeuvres in the 1970s part of our kit was a cape that acted as a rain coat and shelter at night , not the most comfortable of nights no sleeping bags, just a blanket and your clothes. We cooked rations on a foldable stove heated by fire lighters bit slow but hot food was better than cold or nothing. Hope our servicemen fair better in today's world .

I have a Helikon Tex version of this poncho. Primarily its for keeping off the rain and works really well. In an emergency as a shelter, it should be ok but you're lucky if its rainproof in heavy rain. Rare to pitch it as you did in the military. Bottom line, in the field you made your poncho work for you depending on field conditions, but to expect you would be warm and dry after walking all day in the rain wearing the same poncho and try and pitch it in the field while the rain still comes down . That's another story. Then pack up and do it all again the next morning. Light a fire! Bless the boy.

This reminds me of a camp I did with my sister...she booked 2 weeks in a campground that she had never been to and it rained most of the time. Our lot was at the bottom of a hill which filled with water! She had bought tents off of marketplace and they were full of holes and missing poles it was awful! I stayed a few days to get her set up then bugged off back home only to return to help her pack it all up! She doesn't travel light! An SUV and a car full! ugh! the lot was muddy and rutty...the wood that you had to buy from them was wet and would not start. It sucked! 2 drowned old ladies in the woods! Thanks for the giggle and for letting me know it can happen to the best. xo From Canada🌧☔

I wonder what his garage OR soon to be warehouse 😂 will look like if Andy continues to add to his arsenal of camping goods. Based on what we see, he can open a 2nd hand store to recoup some $ he’s spent over the years on equipment. He can also hold “outdoor classes” for people getting into this style of outdoor fun/life OR, possibly have short day trips for adults, parents/kids, etc., to introduce them to it and show them what they would need, hands on. They can use the equipment for the trip that day & have a hands on learning experience. I know speaking from experience, I do better & appreciate things more when I can personally interact with things myself. If you provide a tent & stove, sleeping items - basic amenities to get thru the night, there’s a better understanding & more knowledge for someone to totally understand what’s needed to get started.
Sorry to be long winded with this - just putting something out there that may be beneficial to some families, kids, parents or just people in general, like myself that need something more in their life to keep pushing through & forward. No matter the age we are, we ALL have a life ahead of us until our time is up! Until that time comes, we shouldn’t stop if we don’t have to & CAN continue to keep going. Sooooo many people give up towards the end of their life or after a bad encounter with life - medically, physically ,emotionally or even spiritually. I do understand & have been there and truthfully, still there somewhat. But at the end of each day, we need to STOP, just appreciate how lucky we really are to be alive, living this life rather than others in other parts of the world.
      Take care everyone. God bless.
      👊

I went camping about a week ago ... first time since the 1970's(college) ... in a lean-to similar to yours, no rain, and about 60 degrees ... PERFECT!
Perfect, until I had to get up ... found it not easy at 74 with a twice fractured back and two hips that need replaced.
I was a surveyor for over 40 years, and hauling 25-30 pounds over might right shoulder gave me many memories of pain.
Then I tried a 6 person tend ... large, with no room to stand up and doors that forced me to crawl out ...
I want a tent I can "walk", into, and a bed I can fall out of ....
Otherwise the camping was fun ... and I was inspired by your videos ... thanks ...

Andy, I just found your channel about 3 days ago. I’ve been “binging” to say the least! You have a great channel with great content. Subscribed after the 1st video watched, not even 10 min into it. Your style and calmness was very intriguing. I was hooked within the 1st five minutes. Thank you for your work & efforts.
I’ve been dealing with some mental instability challenges lately & you seem to help with dealing with some, along with some other content creators with similar content. I appreciate your dedication & thrive you have for what you do for these videos. I know it’s a LOT of hard work you must put in for each video with no “easy” way if you’re a 1-man show. Continue on and congrats on a great channel that seems to have a positive & upward swing! 1M subs is right around the corner my friend. I hope to see it soon for someone who definitely deserves it.
Thank you for helping me & setting my thoughts & mind in a better, much more happier place while watching & keeping video/content in mind throughout the day to keep me positive 🤜 🤛 ! Cheers 🍻 to many more from a new sub!
    Tony - USA 🇺🇸

A poncho is good for an emergency situation if you can find a dry spot to sit while waiting for rescue or the weather to clear.

also if you don't set it up in a pit (which will fill with mud) it looked like you could have set it up a few feet away from where the fire was on a small rise instead of a depression used the terrain better instead of out in the open you would have solved all of those problems. you had plenty of cordage and a forest full of sticks and logs, you could have been way more comfortable, looks like user error.

Hey Andy Bermuda Regiment veteran got some experience using ponchos, gotta stay low lol. Stake out the rear, raise the hood by tying to a low branch, use a tent pole in the front center and we liked bungee cords to stake out the corners and middle. What you got is a low shelter with room for a pack, weapon and you, to sleep only. Positioned with the rear facing the wind it was pretty effective.
The wife and I love watching your vids, cheers mate!

Back in the day, we slept under 58 ponchos that we were issued. We tied a knot in the hood and bungee'd or pegged the low A frame corners. Never more than knee high over your shell scrape, you could stud press a few together. The massive tarps we have now would impress a Bedouin. Luxury. Tell kids that today etc, etc.
