Shalai and Hallar is also a one card combo with the Red Terror, Phyrexian Devourer, and Heliod! It can do Emiel dockside as a backup!
Thank you
And War Elemental!
@@jflabrie this is true but most people don't play war elemental because it's hard to cast
@jflabrie I run Red Terror, Heliod, and Dockside+Emiel as combo outlets. The rest is split between a few packages: protect-the-combo, ramp, stax, and tutors.
War Elemental is tough to combo with because it normally gets played post-combat, and combat damage is normally what sets the combo going (apart from the rare Red Terror + Lightning Bolt)
I run war elemental in combination with arwen and savage summoning. Especially the latter one makes for fun out of nowhere wins
just to clarify: The kroxa and kunoros only needs altar of dementia to win a game, the second trigger is a reflexive trigger so in response to the trigger you sac KnK to mill you for 6, then exile 5 cards you dont like and bring back kroxa and do that over and over until you get abdel and karmic guide on the graveyard, and then you can mill everyone out and get infinite 1/1s
I may be known for Kinnan, but my 2 other favorite decks to play are Ob Nixilis and Talion. I love Ob with all the darkness in my heart, dude is insane, but as someone who also plays Talion, Talion is the stronger deck from a tournament perspective. It's just better within the current meta with how many answers everyone has. Ob is for sure number 3 though, Atraxa, Talion, Ob. All amazing commanders, all amazingly strong decks, and all are fun decks to play that are awesome and unique with what they have added to the format. - WoundedSatellite
I triggeres ob nixilis in my Prosper Deck. It was so amazing that it was awful. 😂 I needed to think how to stop pinging my opponents because I couldn't stop exiling my cards without being able to cast cards. Now I'm looking for a way to cast those cards or dealing additional dmg after the 1
I think the one thing you should of talked about with Narset was that she can hit artifacts. I think that's really big.
I feel like Lotho warranted some debate. I’ve been seeing it do well on other channels
While lotho is pretty good, it suffers from being in a poor color combo. He is so much better in the 99 of a 3/4 color pile.
Shalai and Hallar is actually a 1 card combo… The Red Terror and Heliod, Sun-Crowned are each 1 card wins with Shalai and Hallar…they definitely do work together
for etali, in red you can also use cursed mirror, rionya, jaxis, heat shimmer, and twin flame to generate value while its on the field.
You guys are getting so much better at articulating ur opinions and general magic talk. Im in love with it ❤
Hot Take: Rowan should be higher. The trick that you boys are missing with Ad Naus is that you will more than likely come into something that will untap Rowan. Her ability stacks. I still need some money cards and I'm still swapping cards in and out, but I think she will be a banger in the coming days. Too early to tell.
Shalai & Hallar goes infinite with Heliod, the red terror, war elemental, dockside/Emiel, then with lifelink: Trelassara, Ajani’s pridemate, cleric class, voice of the blessed, celestial unicorn & more. Give it a shot
🙌🙌 JUND MENTIONED 🙌🙌
For real though- I love the new Korvold art- and the insight on Slimesquee (And Rogikra) were really cool to hear. I am just all over my sassy hungry dragon.
I know Shalai and Hallar is not the best cedh commander but I have had a lot of fun playing it.
Thats all that matters!
Me too! It’s a bit of a silly deck and is full of a lot of redundancy but it’s my first high power deck and easy to pick up if you are newer to EDH like me 😊
How did you post on this a day ago when the video got posted 2 hrs ago 🤔🤔 just curious lol 🤣
Agree with Ob Nixilis being the best commander of 2023 (biased)! I've had two top 16s on this on some online tournaments and honestly the amount of wincons and lines you can access with this deck is insane. I wrote a primer on it and it honestly surprised me how many possibilities I got with it.
And for Sauron, the Dark Lord: I added in Changeling Outcast for my list to be able to get that wheel effect guaranteed.
You mind dropping your moxfield? Obnix is by far my fave deck rn and I want to see what a better pilot has to say abt it
narset is my favorite commander ever made, you can build it like 5 or 6 different ways at least, and have each of them catered to a different power level including CEDH
awesome episode as always! guys, I'd like you to do an episode about non-blue counterspells... Bind, warping wail, gutural response, withering boon, avoid fate, lapse of certainty, etc....
Always spot on with your lists! ❤❤❤ Have a Happy New Year!
As someone who built SnS day one, you guys are quite right on its analysis. Korvold is strictly better, triple pip is hard, the ability being sorcery speed only is very painful. However, it does indeed grind extremely well, can threaten wins fast as fuck because, well, it's jund, you just burst mana everywhere, it has layered combos everywhere, and most importantly, it flies under the radar a lot more than a deck like Korvold.
It does need a bit of experience to pilot it, but there's a kind of joy from winning with siege gang commander in cEDH that no other commander can really bring I think.
At some point, if we only want to play "THE" best deck, everyone has to play either najeela, kenrith or blue farm. But some other commanders can be interesting :)
I came back to watch this video and I love it even more now seeing Cam rocking the Wawa shirt
I'm so excited you guys have sleeves back in stock! I started building Cam's Magda deck a while back since I'm 4 cards away from taking all the proxies from my Winota deck, and I really wanted the sleeves of my CEDH decks to match 😄
I play narset she is great. Being able to cast your opponents rystics from the grave feels amazing
Narset is so close to reminding me of old school Jeleva decks
i feel like rowan got underrated a bit, ive turned 7 life into 21 by untapping rowan and tapping it again over and over to cast a torment of hailfire for like 21 on turn 4, necropotence and regenerated creatures combo well because you can just keep paying life and then gain life back by using exsanguinate or other cards like that.
I personally play a dragon storm build of Rowan. It's INSANELY powerful. Most of my wins have been prior to turn five
Haven't tried that build yet but it seems super fun
@@PlaytoWinMTG Rebell did a video on it. The deck is cracked
Funny how some Japanese high power tourny with a bunch of homebrews that have zero knowledge of cedh somehow makes people think Dragonstorm is how you brew the deck lol.
Dragonstorm go brrr, lmao
@@damo9961 eh, still fun though lol
Y’all forgot the Dino Pantlaza. Great Food Chain Commander with the new discover mechanic!
I've been playing wheelieod for about a week. I haven't lost a game I've been able to flip yet. It's absolutely incredible
Also I think y'all massively underrated Rowan
Awww
Dihada was my forst precon that I slowly upgraded, so hearing the love ❤ is awesome
Rowan looks fun, possibly more of a Peer to the Abyss card than an Ad Naus cards though. Rowan lets you play artifacts and other colourless spells for zero mana so I'd want some with payoff for that in addition to Rakdos signets and such as free mana sources. X spells also get to be unreasonable but you can exploit that with Ad Naus or Peer.
I quite like Kroxa & Kuronos simply because it is half of a straight-forward two card combo. You don't need Breach or anything, just have Altar in play, cast K&K and win unless your opponents can interact.
Love me some Heloid. It's basically the new Time Twister loop.deck.
Ob nixilis is my most popular list on moxfield for sure. Almost 10k views so far.
I just started playing river song, and i really enjoy it. Its a super heavy control deck that can hit people whenever they get low
I think Rowan has a ton of cEDH potential. It gets gross fast. Think of it more as a storm deck. Also master multiplied could be fun
Yes! My list for her goes hard... RUclips suppressed the link hard.
Toss this in to MTGGOLDFISH /deck/5943307#paper
Shalai and Halar 1-cards with Red Terror and war elemental. That's really good.
Would love to see a Heliod RD deck tech with a great pilot. Have been playing with a list.
Why no talk about the food chain doctor? I can't remember which one but it creates a treasure on etb. So you can convert your infinite creature mana into infinite treasures to help cast spells
I believe it’s the Third Doctor. It also creates a clue, so you can spend your treasures to crack clues and draw your deck and then go from there. The Mind Sculptors also talked about the Fourteenth as a 4/5C Food Chain commander recently.
Disney made it lame and gay
I run Yargle and Multani, definitely surprising how many wins I get with it. Jarad and Selvala with Y&M can win the game on the spot with a haste enabler, not to mention being able to run Chain of Smog and Witherbloom Apprentice. Now we're not really cEDH players, but there is definitely potential.
It's a meme that isn't really a meme. My pod was making fun of me when I rolled up with it at first. After smacking someone for 21 on turn 3, the jokes stopped
I've played narset a bunch now. It does have difficult lines. But man. When it hits. It's nuts. 😊
You should approach building Yargle and Multani as a golgari slicer deck and definitely run legolas's quick reflexes in that sucker.
And even though the activation is abit high running minas morgul, dark fortress can put a shadow counter on him also.
Marath is actually so fun to play, really versatile!
Cam sounding like a robot that just gained sentience with “ what Is Good? “ lol
funny this pops up as i started brewing a river song deck. It'll be a good time
A deck I’m surprised that isn’t doing the numbers is the 5th doctor and adriac. It’s a combo right in the command zone. It wins at instant speed at the end step. I’ve been throughly enjoying the deck ands it pretty consistent due to all the redundancy in the deck. I guess the big flaw is that you need creatures to stick around for a turn cycle to really get it going.
I’ve been preferring Thirteen and Adric, due to having generally better mana dorks in green, but I agree that the deck feels very powerful. I love when somebody doesn’t read Adric and I stifle a Thoracle.
I've been messing with the Thirteen verison but I tend to prefer having acess to white stax pieces with 5th along with the heliod/WB lines. Plus I'm a big fan of 5th in general due to him being my favorite from the TV show so im a bit biased.
@@agarcn6704 Fair enough. I only recently started watching the show, and I started with the reboot so I’ve never watched anything with the Fifth Doctor.
I did play the new Narset too :D is fun
Can’t believe y’all did my pet deck Rowan like that
My boy Korvold, gleeful glutton gets snubbed again!!! It's so fun to play you guys should look into it. And the Rani from doctor who is pretty cool gixis commander
I might need to show off my Heliod play list
It’s one of my favorite and strongest decks I have ever played
It’s a fun time.
I think one of the commanders that doesn't get enough love from this year is Aragorn, the uniter. It's a sans black food chain list with so much utility in the command zone.
I put together Korvold as a gimmick deck built around Dragonstorm and even that was too strong for my casual pod. Even if you fill your 99 with bullshit, he's just a big dragon that draws cards and kills people, really really easily.
It's so hard to think of a Jund strategy where the commander draws 12 cards when you sneeze and then kills blue player isn't the right call.
I was hoping to see some discussion for Aragorn, the Uniter.
Love to see the wawa rep as a person living in NJ
Cameron looking up into the ceiling, waiting a moment, then ‘Mee-ow’ fucking sent me
Have you guys seen the rowan dragon storm deck? It's super rad.
I think that aragorn as one of the most innovative food chain decks in the past couple years was worth noting
There is also another infinite combo with Slimefoot and Squee using Asnods Altar and Atsushi the Blazing Sky you can generate infinite colourless mana, or using phyrexian altar you can generate infinite treasure because you can sac slimefoot and Squee with Atsushi for coloured mana
I have a syr Carah list that I am still trying to put together but with all the good burn cards and card value combinations that came out this year I had to revamp the list quite a few times
Mind sharing a list?
@@faperito2389 sorry tried sharing a list but got removed but look up competitive Burn on mox field the creator is ILikethisstuff
Yeah Marath is my boi! And thank you for pronouncing it correctly.
Of 2023 i have had the most fun building ixhel scion of atraxa as an abzan handlock stax. With good ol chains and oppression and using the commander as something to break parity on those
Did your playgroup like the deck too?
@@Mox_Normandy we have already embraced the no holds barreled beatdown arms race that is cedh
I'm in love with the thought of Francisco, but I'm disappointed he doesn't have a friend that pairs well enough with him to be in the top 5. Where's a Dread Pirate Robert's when you need one? And I don't count The Princess Bride cards.
My narset deck is an artifact deck and it’s oppressively OP. I have to force myself to slow down my plays so ppl can play.
Anyone who knows anything about Wawa knows a turkey and cheese with spicy mustard is the way to go
Been working on a Dargo Francisco list, it kinda works ngl. Enough dargo lines that it works well
What’s Franny adding that like a Tevesh wouldn’t? Sincere question, as a Tevesh enjoyer :)
@@dave_8600 I mean 2 things... Cauldron loops, which is a different play style, and I don't really wanna play tevesh 😅
Narset is deceivingly good. I run a high power version that runs more pinger creatures and curiosity effects along with magecraft triggers. Deck plays well enough that I can occasionally play it in cEDH pods.
Me with my prebuilt Gavi and a dream
Thalia and the Gitrog Monster Enjoyer here 😎
Elish norn mothe of machine reminds me of mystic mine from yugioh. Yes, it can steal games, but the second you know its comming is dying within seconds
I like the part where they talk about CEDH
I like the part where they can’t remember a cards name or pronounce it
Not sure if you guys knew this, but Heliod has also won some turnaments recently.
Turbo rocco has a 7 mana commander that they are paying 7 mana to cast
Let’s go for the wawa rep
Ob Nixilis ftw! I've been enjoying him and Atraxa
Best removal is player removal
So I mostly play regular commander, but could war doctor Ryan Sinclair be Cedh? Depending on how you build the deck, war doctor can just swing for lethal whenever he attacks.
As always, great video guys.
However, this time I strongly disagree with how you rated one specific commander. I think you massively underrated Shalai and Hallar. It has several very efficient one card creature based combos and it can both tutor for and protect them really easily while using asymetrical stax pieces to slow down opponents. It has already four top16 results in big tournaments, only below Atraxa and Ob Nixilis among 2023 commanders. I think Talion is also a bit better, but for me Shalai and Hallar is the clear fourth strongest commander.
The rest of them I agree with almost everything you said.
No love for Rona in March of the Machine?
She's a one card combo with Wishclaw!
One card combo for shalai and hallar with Heliod or the red terror
Idk what’s the best, but ob nixilis is 100% my favorite, and twill always be my first cEDH deck ♥️🖤
Interesting that pantlaza wasn’t talked about sense it another food chain list🤔
Shalai and Hallar has been doing well in cEDH tourneys. Not sure why they think it's bad.
Please more y&m games also pog
Shalai and Hallar might be slept on a bit. Obviously it has one card combos w the commander but I also think it got some real help in recent sets that I here zero buzz about.
I think the new selesnya bunny thing (the grand abolisher) is great here and I think layering in Heliod, Ballista, and Agatha’s soul cauldron makes a ton of sense. I also would run Minsc n Boo (Gruul planeswalker) as a vice value engine that has additional synergies w the commander and the new pieces👍👍👍
So just to be clear, im getting into cedh, I like it more than edh. One thing I dont get, do you all spend 7K usd on the decks or you are probably proxying it right?
Looking at Rowan as an adnaus deck is kinda wrong, Rowan is way more a storm deck than it is a normal rakdos deck
42:47 😂😂😂
Before I watch I can only assume Yisan is #1.
*Insert John Cena theme here
No love for Lotho?!? Lotho definitely deserves a spot somewhere on the list!
As a commander ? Nah. As of the 99 , yes.
link to cedh yargle list????
Im sad they didnt look at the master multiplied at all
i feel like there are commander options that were not considered because they're "too new." i'm surprised at some of your choices though.
Lotho and 4c Aragorn would be higher in my list. LOTR did have some good commanders.
Gotta rep the wawa merch
I like it how you can tell Cam in no way thinks Ob Nix is as good as Atraxa, or better than Talion but just agrees because Dylan has the feels for Rakdos. Dimir>Rakdos.
Best win con in the game: check.
Blue > Red: check.
Card advantage engine in the command zone that doesn't require diluting your deck with cute dead cards: check.
Talion is sneaky S tier. It's Rhystic Study in the command zone. No way Ob Nix is better.
Surprised to only see one commander from Lord of the rings in the list
Day 1 of advocating for Pantlaza
Francisco and DARGO.. ultra mega turbo... y'all need to re-brew...
Currently playing narset and oh boy do I take snack on greedy black players at my local. Necropotence, ad naus, tutors and even planeswalkers like parter of veils and t3feri
shalai is a 2 card combo with a few cards and had a few good tournament showing, i felt that it's under evaluated
you didn't technically win any CEDH games with Yargle and Multani but based on that flavor text you won every game
IMO people are sleeping on Heliod. The deck is stupidly good.
Cameron....no such word as "Catched" - it should be Caught 😂
