They don't take no care with people's time. I nearly had a nervous breakdown dealing with the UK branch of a certain JA bank, taking time off work to sort out my business, they tell you everything is okay, even when you are checking pertinent information, you feel like they are running you out of the building. And then when you get home you get an email saying that something else is needed. Can you imagine I had to ring the Sav La Mar branch from the UK in my lunch hour to tell them to contact the UK branch to give me one Form? I truly believe that dealing with JA administration is a trial, they Never give you all the information even when you are paying for the service. Anyway, once you know how them stay, you can then plan the best way to navigate the system. Very glad you finally did get through. 😊
This brings back December memories of my day at Kingston Wharf. The only saving grace is that the new improved wharf is not so depressing when waiting like back in the day.

I think door to door service will be expensive just for food and toiletries. I heard on the news that the whalves have introduced a kind of click and collect service now. They tell you before hand how much it will cost to clear your goods, you pay online and then arrange collection ( sounds good in theory) I will give it a try next time.
I used Kingsley Shipping as well to ship all of my things...We shipped the container to the Kingston Wharf. Kingsley made the process so less stressful for me and they dealt with everything and I just paid the relevant duty and fees and they delivered to my house so much less stressful. In the grand scheme of things it wasn't as much as I thought and what the horror stories I'd heard about trying to clear goods. The advice I would give is get to the wharf early in order to get through and not have to spend the entire day there.
Lord thanks for sharing never heard anything positive about the wharf yet and it look like a true. I sent 1 barrel last year to go directly to my home address where I stay was suppose to meet it there in order to get a discount they charged me 193.50£ but true the flight was cancelled they was trying to charge extra I had to tell them let have my family member collect it which was a big drama in itself... A very long story short they longggg out the process till I had pay 110£in storage fee but all in all yeh I think it's more worth it to do door to door service just make sure you add an additional name to it if something happens and ur not able to collect

I sent a barrel to Jamaica and went to Freeport to pick it up. That was 20 years ago and I still have post traumatic stress syndrome from that experience; I should have gone to a psychiatrist.
send my barrel to Kingston port and leave my yard in st .Elizabeth at 5.30 am got my barrel so as they open at 8.30 and was on my way back home no worries what so ever.

I did put the total cost in the description but the total cost to clear the barrel was $12500 JMD approximately £65. This included the $4900, for the house bill of landing document (£25) $1000 storage fee (£5), and $6500 duty for the items in the barrel (£33). Hope this helps. Bless 'Dat Mi Seh TV'
The price comes out to be more after the fees and everything. Might as well buy in Jamaican stores if it is just food. If it is stuff you can't get in Jamaica then maybe it might be worth it.
This is also what I was thinking, it seems the price may work out the same in the end - by the time you purchase items, pay for the barrel, shipment of barrel cost and to claim the barrel and not to mention time spent doing all this, what's truly the cost savings? I'd be interested to know - perhaps a cost compare analysis?
Food should always be good value fruit grows on the same tree and rice in the same fields so big the economic shop i would do the same so pleased for you guys live the life you and love the life you manners and prayers door to door only always a good idea to weight barrel before and after I been told by those who have come unstuck in the past

The total seems just about it.I paid $13400 JA for the whole process to clear one barrel.The $1000 storage fee is cheap compared to $2300 I paid for one barrel at Kingston Wharves.I am really sorry for the bad experienced gained.
I would have been shocked if you picked up that barrel without some sort of drama. Jamaica customer service is generally so bad. I spent 7hrs in JN bank in MoBay trying to open an account and still didn’t get through despite having my stuff checked in one section and given the go ahead to wait. I was soooo bex!! 😡😤😖

Yes sorry! So I went to the agents office first. This is where the shipping company in the UK send the paperwork and details too. Every shipping company in the UK have their own agents in Jamaica that they work with, and this where I got the paperwork.

It can be hard sometimes, and like you say, some of the systems here are very frustrating. Being here for some time now, I think I’ve learnt to try and not let these things bother me as much as they used to, but yes it can be challenging 😩
I send a barrel many years ago, it was the most horrendous day ever. Although one of the workers did approach me asking for cash to make the process quicker but I refused on the principle that those who can’t afford to do it would have to wait. My dad was like daughter you should have said yes, lesson learned, when you are in Jamaica do what they do😂😂

It has gotten to be a much easier process than when I used to go. Sent 3 barrels in December and they were $13000 each from Kingston.

Planned to spend the whole day .All when you get number 1 if you donot pay everbody come and get through and you still there.Never again for me.
Not a great experience very long lots of money spent and a lot of our stuff was missing.. The worst place do door to door next time
