Both me and my older brother, who are Mexican, see absolutely nothing wrong with her. I absolutely love her design and I'm actually debating on buying her.
I wasn't super impressed from the stock photos but seeing her up close like this, she really is stunning. Retail is too much for me, but I will be keeping my eye on potential sales.
Girlfriend purchased marcia Garcia day of the dead doll yesterday from her local toyworld store she absolutely loves this doll beautifully presented and made 😊
I know, I know there is cultural controversy around this doll…but I do find her very beautiful and pretty all the same! And if I can , I will probably get her anyway! Thanks for the review!
I generally think she's a beautiful doll. I'm getting her for my birthday (November 1st) I'm going to do a review and address the controversy with her. I will ask some of my Mexican friends and see what they think about her and address that too. I absolutely love the review btw!!!
People are calling 'cultural appropriation' due to the dress being of Spain design and not Mexico, hair color wrong, and the name is too stereotypical for a character representing Mexico
you should watch Angel Loza's review on this doll. He is Mexican and he loves her. He said in his video that people do wear roses for this holiday. He has an awsome RH collection too.
@@Dolldad_83 👍 I know you didn't say that, but that is what others are saying and slamming this doll for. I know your review was very positive and I appreciate that! I was just telling you about Angel Loza's positive review as well, because he defuses a lot of the haters comments about her, like the roses, etc.
Aside from the cultural accuracy controversy, I don't really like the way she looks, although she does look better than in photos. The worst for me is the purple hair with red dress (clashing to my eyes), and the small application area of the skull details (the eye area looks strange). However, I admit there are some high-quality touches. That black lace on the dress is stunning. I actually don't think the price is as out-of-line as some people do because things like rosettes, lace, and embroidery bring the price up. This is still way more than Barbie would give at that price. For me, it's about how I feel when I look at the doll, though, and this one doesn't draw me in.
Lovely details on her. I do wonder about the price of this doll compared to the holiday OMGS with their light up displays. Sure RH is more posable and a little bigger, and this is very detailed, but the holiday OMGs were only half the price of this doll. That's quite a difference in cost, and I don't think it should be.
She's beautiful. I have no idea what is controversial about this doll but she is amazing. I'd be curious to hear from someone who knows what it is they are taking issue with. Great review as usual. I may have to get this one.
No hate to your comment at all as Mexican myself at all :) but her design is not accurate at all to the culture she’s supposedly trynna represent thats why this doll is getting so much flack cause shes just not accurate at all by no means besides having a skull painted on her face
With the controversy aside, I take issue with the up charge. Lily Cheng from last year was $75 and she came with a second outfit. I don’t think the price for Maria is justified. The Barbie Dios de Los Muertos are better in execution of the theme and the price is slightly better.
I’ve seen some of the negative comments. Most like to compare her to the Barbie versions. They’re upset about the dress style?? It’s almost a copy of the Barbie Dia Los Muertos version 1 dress! People seem to forget that the holiday has been blending the Aztec with the Catholic since the first invasion. Also, no celebrations in Mexico City until after the 2015 James Bond movie made the holiday more well known.
No objections here from this Latina of Mexican ancestry. The flamenco dress can be a nod to our Spanish heritage. Our Native American roots are also displayed in this doll. We are a blend of European and indigenous people which are represented in this doll. Gorgeous.
As a Mexican I found this very accurate and beautiful BUT catrinas are not supposed to wear red on their dresses. I really don't know why they didn't do a better research work there .
Could it be because red is associated with blood (or shaded blood)/war/anger (aggression) ? So red color might be associated with a violent death of a relative.

Who is complaining about the doll's name and "stereotype"? Us Mexicans are sure not. Thanks for this awesome review!!! Saludos desde Mexico!
Apparently not Mexicans! Im glad you enjoyed! Ive heard lots of people complaining about her - but i wonder of their lineage haha

Good on ya for deleting negative comments. There are worse things going on in the world than beautiful dolls being made. She is gorge x

Such a stunning doll! And a wonderful review, thank you as always :)

I dont recall saying roses weren't appropriate for the holiday 🤷🏻♂️

@@mad4charms881 glad to hear he is also putting a positive spin on her! Shes so beautiful
I just got my online at Walmart for only $35! I'm so excited and can't wait to add her to my small collection.
What a beauty!!!!
She's stunning 🌹great review

Just found this at Marshall’s for $50. Had to get it! ❤

I saw it in the store, it is very nice and at first i thouth it belongs to the game ghost recon wildlands 😂😂😂😂
