  • I show how I photograph British Wildflowers around the Malvern Hills, Worcestershire in this Flora Photography video. As the weather is idea for wild Spring flowers, I get out and give you some photography tips on how to get some great photos of wildflowers and grasses using extension tubes.
Over the past few months the weather has been very poor for landscape photography so as it was overcast and the wild spring flowers are just coming out, I made the most of it and photographed wildflowers in my local area.
Thank you for watching. I hope you enjoy this video.

"Taking photographs of wildflowers is extremely dangerous!" Haha! Thanks for the laugh, that is actually quite true in our neck of the woods too! I enjoyed your video, the photographs are beautiful and it's lovely where you live!

Hello, thank you so much for your kind comments. Flower safety is no laughing matter. I was looking at a field of stunning flowers once and ended up in hospital, I crashed my car.

Lovely images John, I really enjoyed the video. Your flowers are way ahead of us up here, we’re a good couple of weeks away from the bluebells and garlic showing. I do love the scent they give off in the early morning. All the best from a wet and cold Scotland.

Hi Trevor, thank you very much. I enjoyed doing this video. The last 2 weeks have been really warm so everything has shot up. It looks like you are now getting the rubbish weather we've had, so you should get some sun by July.

Stinging nettles won't do much harm but ticks can transmit Lyme disease. It's not a bad idea to tuck your trouser bottoms into your socks.

It depends where they sting you 😲. True, I hate ticks. I've been bitten a number of times and I'm now paranoid of them.

    Hi John,
You Mentioned that the light was dull and boreing. I was a Wedding Photographer and really loved light like this.
The people reading this who are weekend photographers may not understand. No disrespect intended.
This light was not good for the bride as they all want brilliant sunshine on the day but, for a Photographer it
is hard work. The contrast between the white of the brides dress and the dark of the grooms suit in sunshine
is beyond the point that film could manage.
This type of light goes somewhere to evening out that contrast, as I'm sure you know.
    Great video. Many thanks.
    regards,
    Bill.

      Hello Bill,
I know exactly what you mean with regards to wedding photography. I used to do it and flat light was my favourite. After saying that the light was flat and boring (in reference to large vista landscape photography), I mentioned that it was ideal for light flowers as they don't burn out without the light on it, which is exactly what you were saying about the brides dresses.
I am guilty for always wanting the strong "Joe Cornish" style of light to really boost my landscapes but in reality it is rarely like that and they are so many other opportunities for when the light is soft but I do need to remember that as I often get frustrated. Thank you very much for your comment. You make a good point. Good weather for people isn't good weather for photographers. When I started in landscape photography I would go out in the middle of the day when it was warm and sunny and didn't really understand why my photos weren't good. Maybe I should do a video on light and how I make the best of each condition. It would be a difficult and long one to do but would be fun and hopefully useful.
      Thanks again Bill.

      Hi John,
Tha video on light, I think would be very interesting. Look forward to seeing it
if you get around to making it. It might take a while though because the light
changes fron day to day and hour by hour. You may have to keep an eye on
the weather forcast, but it is a great idea.
      Regards, Bill.

Hello George, I'm glad you enjoyed it. Yes, I'm a little clumsy. It is my challenge to do a video without inflicting any injuries on myself.
