- Words cannot describe the great loss and sadness felt by hundreds of thousands of people who loved and respected Professor Mick Aston. Not only was he well respected across the archaeological world but he championed sharing his knowledge and the love of history and archaeology with everyone that he met !!! This film is a very brief thank you to Mick for everything that he meant to us all ... Please share this film far and wide with everyone that you know and keep Mick's memory alive for many years to come.
With great sadness and a heavy heart,
James Balme
He was so kind and never saw the negative side. A very gentle gentleman
I miss his voice. A part of my childhood. Bless his family.
A beautiful mind and soul, bless you Mick and family. You will live on for ever
A great scholar, archeologist, man, and comrade. RIP Camarada.
This actually made me tearful. Such a Beautiful man, he was a National Treasure. May he rest in peace.
What I truly admired was his openess to other people in the team and learning from them instead of being „the high and mighty professor“. He also was always positive and brought great spirit - especially when there was trouble with finds, geophys or downpouring rain, gusty wind or freezing cold weather. His unforgotten trademark to. E are his rainbow colored striped sweaters which I learned were knitted for him by viewers. Always a bright and colorful spot in the team. I miss him and his typically pronounce „hiare“. RIP Mick.
we don't get Time Team in Canada. That's a bloody shame. I found it on RUclips, saw all and found this probably one of the most go to shows for ever age that needs to get some history 101. Mick was part of a great team...him, Phil, tony, cadenza...such an awesome show with a cast of characters that will always be remembered
It was not hard to perceive that he was a calm gentle spirit and passionate about his profession. Who could ask for more? Thanks Mick and have a good trip across the river.
What a Great man so positive RIP Sir
Ahhhhhh, no! What a fellow! I just started watching the time team like 6 months ago...started with S1-E1 and on the 11th season now only to find out Mick passed on. I'm saddened, no so much for the fact that I took a liking to him as I am for Tony, and the team. I especially liked Phil's never-quit-on-a-hunch, Sempet Fi attitude. I would give just about anything to dig side by side with the big Celt. I will offer prayers for all of you and hope Mick is enjoying realizing all the answers he sought after and the questions of which he contemplated. May his Soul rest while he awaits the rest of us.
Professor Mick Aston kept Time Team on it's toes by demanding quality, providing the very best to everyone who watched it. It always had a bit of history as well as a lot of archeology. He kept it interesting and we always enjoyed his colorful sweaters. We will miss him very much. God rest your soul Mick Aston. We loved you and will keep you in our hearts.
such a fitting tribute well done he will never be forgotten
I live in the U.S. and only recently discovered "Time Team" on YT and have been binge-watching it for about two months. I was so saddened to find out that we had lost Mick. He was a treasure.
Me too. And victor. Both legends.
rest in peace mick, the world of archaeology will never be the same.
A modern day Druid. He was not only interested in teaching all of us in the physical knowledge, but he was also and maybe even more so geared towards leading us towards the confluence of that and the deeper understanding of what moves us as human beings or even as just beings.
💯
He was one of a kind. I loved what he brought to the show. He was a great man.
I have been binge watching Time Team the last week, been at home due to covid. I had no idea he passed such a smart yet humble man, salt of the earth. He left behind a fitting tribute to his life's work. RIP
Victor passed recently too.
@@zoeherriot Sad part of life but hope there is some peace in death. As Poe said "To live is to suffer".
Some people should just live forever. Mick Aston is one of them. Rest easy, Mick.
Dear Mick. What a lovely fellow. Such an inspiration and sorely missed. Archeology was blessed to have him as a leader.
I learned a lot, you will be remembered.
Sadly gone but never forgotten
I discovered Mick through Time Team last year during the start of quarantine. I'm glad I did but also saddened that I learned about him long after he passed. Perhaps if I had known about Time Team all those years ago I might have pursued a career in archeology. It's something I always wanted to do as a kid. Maybe I'll still go back to school and try to achieve the dream of being an archaeologist. Because of you and everyone at Time Team. RIP Mick.
Loved Mick. He was like family. RIP Mick. We miss you.😍
At whatever age a really nice man dies, it's always soon. R.I.P...
It sadened me today to here of Mick Aston passing ,I have been a great follower of the Time Team episodes and after a while one feels like a family member to all ,Mick is going to be sadly missed ,God bless you Mick and God bless the Time Team.
he was everyones ideal history teacher he made it all so fun and interesting,i learned more from him and the team than ever i did at school i miss professor mick and the time team, things are not the same without them, so i just keep watching re-runs ,i hope to see time team remade because there is still so much undiscovered archaeology that we would love to be part of when it is dicovered
Such a down to earth man - with a great love of his profession and so open and willing to share all he knew to anyone that wanted to know - there will never be another Mick Aston 😢❤
Such a great loss to the whole world. A truly great man. A gentleman and a scholar who wanted to share his knowledge with everyone.
What a wonderful man, we across the pond will miss him dearly, I had no ideal he had passed, I am crying
What a loss RIP Professor. And the scary thing for me is we were born the same year.
ditto
same here. it reminds us all of our mortality.
Mick was brilliant. Godspeed my friend.
Recently, I "discovered" this awesome set of videos from Time Team. As of the other day when I decided to read up on the crew, I have to admit I get depressed with each unseen video I watch knowing this great person is no longer sharing laughs and useful insight into the history of not only Britain but the entire world as it developed through time. RIP Professor.
Such a fantastic educator. We all should reflect not only on how easy it is to find our past but how fun it can be also. The man has an incredible past and should be remembered for being an influence on a new generation of archeologists. Thank you Mic.
A very interesting and entertaining expert. Mick was a pivotal figure in the Time Team series. He will be sadly missed.
It hard to believe he’s been gone 10 years…. He’s still in my home every week thanks to TT reruns on YT. A bright and shining soul! ❤
It’s been 10 years, time flies. Mick, rest in peace.
Very sad to hear. All of us at the Urban Treasure Hunter family send our condolences.
I have just found this and am saddened to know of his passing even after ten years. He was amazing to watch and learn from his knowledge as an archaeologist. God speed Mick.
Lively, well educated and experienced…with a skill to interact with anyone
I've received an undergrad degree in archaeology and love benging time team. It's always sad to lose good people. When you follow a show you get to know the participants to a degree. We are here for such a short time we must appreciate the good ones. The entire group seems to be great people. I was sad when I heard that Mick had passed.
he was an amzing fella just loved him to pieces couldn't believe he had passed away in 2013 so very sad
He was great on Time team,a real character
How to honor this man is to watch all the time team episode. RUclips has brought his kind man to everyone in the world. Now let all go out and dig.
How wonderfully done and perfectly laid out. Thank you, loved watching and being inspired by him.
Glad you enjoyed it
rest in peace my friend ,mick will live on in time team show .
I chanced upon Time Team on You Tube and got hooked on it. It is thanks to characters such as Prof. Aston that I now know a whole lot more about the history of Britain and her people than I used to.
Thank you, Professor, from a grateful Singaporean.
I've watched this show for years then it disappeared but found it again on RUclips loved Mick loved his enthusiasm and love of archeology saddened by his death RIP Sir you made me enthusiastic about archeology thank you 🙏🌹🌹
Very shocked to hear such a Great Loss of a Legend what brought this country history together. Never met Mick' would love to have done, but since a Time Team fan, I never missed the program and I am glad to own most Time Team on DVD to bring back memories.
God Bless to all Time Team crew for losing such a Great Team Member.
RIP Mick.
Thanks for unloading such a Great video.
Thank you James for this, like so many people, I never met Mick, but like Helen Geake says in a tribute to Mick, "'she gets a lot of people coming up to her since Mick died saying they never met him but felt like they knew him, and the world seems a little less interesting with him not in it" very true. A proper good Bloke!! Much missed!
a great man.mick will b missed ,good vid about mick please make a longer vid about mick aston..
I just loved him ...great man
Livia

Great show great bloke
tragic loss gone way too soon a great loss to his field inspired millions through the years via timeteam i have no doubt he will be greatly missed
The “GOAT”of archaeology🌹…Greatest of all Times
rest in peace...and who knows maybe in a few centuries future archaeologists will find your earthly remains and wonder about the life you had and the world you lived in the same way you did when you were on time team, words won't bring you back from the world beyond but you will live on in the memory of your fellows
Amen.
We were cheated, Mick, didn't make his three score and 10 years. Thank you for all you gave .
I would say he is missed by millions of people, from nations all across the planet. I always wanted to meet Mick, but he probably would have thought me a fool, so it's for the best he was spared that experience.
We really love this man
Beyond Sad
RIP Mick.
This video says it all, nice tribute!!!!.
a great loss to all and the time team
Made archaeology appealing to everybody
An amazing man
Love Time Team ❤ Miss him 🌸💞
I am sure that more will be done to highlight how great Mick Was to us all. visit facebook Save Time Team for more info
I enjoyed Time Team as it was amazing to see that arhaeology wasn't always as we imagine. We seen it "warts and all" with them as they tried to produce results in all weathers and conditions. Mick had a way of telling it as it is and explaining things so that the common man could understand. I can never understand though why Tony Robinson (grrrr)?
Thanks for your comment Colin....
yeah, he was a fun guy on Time Team
A great shame
May his bones be dug up five thousand years from now, and provide the missing critical dating evidence for a future dig.
He had tremendous instincts. So many times in the beginning of a show, he would put forth an explanation for something, which sounded very speculative at the time, but then you would find out he was exactly right. Tremendous ability to put together disparate bits of evidence.
please excuse me asking this but i didnt even know he had passed away when did he die?
Oh no I am just finding this out. I love watching time team with him. He was so smart. 😢😢😢
24 June 2013
He sure liked Anglo Saxons, I hope he had a funeral and burial like one.
Nobody will.eveen in Austria.
RIP Mick.
