If there’s one track in Oz that’s at the top of every to-do list, then it’s the Old Telegraph Track in Cape York. Rutted, muddy and with water crossings over the bonnet, this iconic track is the pinnacle of Aussie 4WDing.
This issue Graham and Shauno are tackling the Tele with Shorty and the Dirty 30 - and believe it or not, it’s Shauno’s first time! But that’s not even the best part about this DVD!
This time, we’ve sent young Jock from the mag up to the Cape with a grand in cash which he’s just spent on a bog stock 1984 single cab HiLux! If you’ve loved our previous project trucks like Zero Dollar Zook, then you’re gonna love our newest one - Thousand Buck Lux! Don’t miss Jock’s first adventure in this stock as a rock beast of a truck as he does everything he can to keep up with Shorty and the 30. There’s no guarantee they’ll even make it to the end, but one thing’s certain - they’re in for one hell of an adventure giving it a red hot go!
2:32 The sudden change in Jock’s face when he realised he left the window down 🤣🤣🤣
It was like the cap was welcoming him with a slap of water to the face aha
I owned the same model in a dual cab, saw most of the top end in it. Truly couldn't break the thing, but I could've walked it faster.
Love he’s face when the water comes in ...priceless
I'm sure glad an '82 lux came stock with a small lift, bigger wheels, bigger tyres, a snorkel, extra fuel filters, a bullbar and driving lights!!
im sure glad i wasn't the only one thinking that
It might be a 'short nit picking list' but just the labour, let alone the service parts and upgrades, would have cost more than the '$1,000' base vehicle.
Realistically to pick up a $1,000 LN46/RN36 and get it to a standard worthy of driving up there is probably a $5-6k investment if you're buying parts and labour, that is if a workshop and sponsors aren't supplying everything... and that would still be a pretty rugged old trip.
if the zero dollar zook would probs front flip going into gunshot
I never pay for labor
The bull bar can come with it stock
This is the video that got me into 4wding since watching this the first time in 2017 I've bought an 80 series, learned how to go offroad, went camping for the first time, did 2 big trips including solo crossing the simpson desert, visited Uluru, Lambert Centre, visited SA/NT for the first time spent thousands of dollars modding my car, learned how to do all sorts of things mechanical and electrical. Funnily enough I have no interest in ever going to Cape York though, because it's too crowded.
Good on ya mate
Good on ya mate
My mate scratched my dvd ages ago so now I can watch me favourite dvd again. How good
20:57 it doesn't matter how many times you spool out a winch by hand, part of you thinks you can unwind it faster by pulling it
Great to see the hilux doing the cape. More of the old 4wd's please!!
Living vicariously from home while jobless and on lock down :(
Hey guys enjoying your show. I own a Hilux in Port Morssby and proud of that 1000 dollar red one .
While I didn't do the Tele Track, fruit bat falls are accessible by rugged 2WD.
Made it there with a Toyota TownAce in 2012.
Awesome spot.
Though the TeleTrack has been on my bucket list ever since.
Best comment of the episode. "You don't winge when someone gives you a beer"
$1000 + $6000 worth of labour and fixing up.
Yeah. Those tires alone cost 1k.
No they do not. I have bought better equipped lux's for 500 bucks hahahaha
Brock Bain Pics or it didn't happen.
That is 7000 thousand of money to poot more spending on
Ended up selling for 2 grand too
MORE FULL LENGTHS ! LOVING IT

That’s what she said
Met a bloke up there years ago in a lwb zook he got for a carton of beer. Hadnt missed a beat.
great video. absolutely spot on in that anyone can do it. I did it last year in a 1994 4runner that I brought a 11pm the night before we left some 3500kms away. had problems but made it there and back
NIce video, make more like this!. Highly sponsored movies but freely available on youtube. Thumbs up!
Thanks Mark, Glad you liked it. Keep your eye out for more.
Enjoyed that . Did the trip unassisted with my mate on Yamaha ttr 250 . Both bikes were bullet proof . Nearly died a couple of times . No1 was a close call of impalement from a broken tree that just missed my groin and ended up ripping my strides . No2 was a strike from a taipan snake that got its fangs into my boot . It was a great adventure.
17:18 ,that sound of the bonnet shutting never gets old 👌🏻👌🏻👌🏻, I have an 82 hilux almost exactly the same, that bonnet shutting is just a weird sound that I just know exactly what’s happening 😂 😂
So I watched All4Adventure for a while and thought you guys were jumping on the boat...HOW WRONG I WAS!!!, i love your videos, you only need to watch one of your full length videos to see what a nice bunch of enthusiatic guys you are. Where you go is breathtaking, and how you get there is a great watch! Full marks to you guys!
Sitting here watching older vids as it snows in Ohio in the states.
A thinly disguised cooking show. Next up: best window treatments to hide mud spatter! ;)
Iv got an old hi -lux and once I went over the kerb, and didn't even need diff locks.
Tom O'Hawk you definitely don’t own a “Hilux”
The tyre size on vehicles going through these crossings becomes a self fulfilling requirement. Once a bunch of vehicles with 35's go through and chew the ruts out a bit you'll need 37's to avoid getting stuck on the diffs, eventually the tracks will become impassable and new tracks will need to be made.
Exactly, if everyone had 31-32 inch tyres max. (7.50R16, 235/85R16, 265/75R16 etc.), then there would be no need for more clearance from 35s, 37s or larger. I'm curious as to when 35 inch tyres became necessary (mid to late 1990s?).
Just fill in the ruts and that makes better sense then to take out the middle of the rut.. Doing that only makes the track deeper to the point one can no longer use it.
Edward Brodie portugal its a good example. now every one uses 35 inch 37 inch and 40 inch. and the 35" are no longer a suitable tyre for the average offroad difficulties here.
dude 35"s do less damage when aired down properly because ya don't have to drive so stupidly hard, I have snapped more CVs running 31"s than I have running 33"s. Anyway in my experiance all it takes its for a little bit of flooding to wash out the ruts and even everything out again, and with some terrains like sand and rocky shit big tires do no permanent damage, big tires are NOT just for bigger ruts
35's definitely do less damage than 31's.
I had a GQ shorty, once I changed to 35's from 31's she would walk up tracks that I previously had to use a lot more momentum and spin the wheels a lot to be able to get up.
= less damage to the track and less damage to the bus running bigger tyres.
This is the 4th time i watched this episode one of my faves 4 sure👆👆✊✊....East coast New Zealand
28:25... That's why you hire professionals and that man is one. Nice work producer Chris.
As the owner of an old Lux - sometimes you just gotta hold it in first lol
Isn't that a proverb from the bible?
I was under the impression it was obvious the 1K price was for the base buy-in before upgrades/service. Of course you're going to put whatever spare parts you have on a new (to you) rig to make it better suit your needs, or the very least do a full service which is never cheap. My current rig was a 2K buy-in before even an oil change. People don't give this stuff away for cheap after they spend lots on servicing and upgrades, that's why they're inexpensive.
Love the old 60 ute! Dream car for me! Can't wait till I can get my license
Great vid guys - more like this showing what can be done in cheap old 4x4s - where was the Zook?
Do it in the $0 ZOOK
everyone seems like chilled out genuine blokes, good content. *and I dont even drive a 4x4 (yet)*
So fun to watch this from 7 years ago compared to where you guys are today
You know what...?
I used to avoid these videos like the plague... And I don't know why.
But, Holy hell, have I had a marathon for the last few weeks catching up on all the old episodes.
Love it, it's like crack....almost!
I enjoy the comedy, the good old Aussie larrikin behavior and the sights you guys see.
One day, ONE DAY.... I WILL get out there and enjoy this beautiful country of ours.
Oh.... And go the might GQ, even if it's missing a couple of rear doors!
I'm geting a Holden Captiva for my P's & I'm gonna do all Telegraph track with my gf when I ask her out
Gold. Fkn gold.
Fk yeah did it go well? 😉
howd it go mate, ya married yet?
Old mate is too busy slaying the poontang to answer. Good on him 👌
It’s been 2 years, hows it going for ya?
started watching these videos out of curiosity about a month ago today i just brought a navara time to get mods happening cant wait to get out there
2:30 the look on his face.... roll the window up my friend! Too funny
His face at 2:33 when the water got him
Jock always has the classic facials
4WD 24-7 LMAO that doesnt read very well for Jocko!! Bahahaha
New favorite channel!!! Greeting from Pennsylvania, USA!!
Aussies do it better

@@georgebrisbane4308 you make us look bad shut up
Hello fellow merican!
Yanks
As someone thats used to wheeling in Alberta, Canada, the sheer lack of mud and the amount of traction you have is amazing. Would love to get out there someday for an offroad trip......with a flamethrower for the bugs 😛
Iso got me watching old episodes. I also really enjoy Shaunos cooking and I want to see a lot more of it
When you taking the zero dollar zook up there, can't wait to see that!
Man..Toyotas are just built for this. Love it!
Graham is the ultimate beer scab
Jocko looks like he’s worn that shirt since the dah he got it. Then again Graham’s no better 😂 2:59
This video definitely made me miss my '78 Hilux four speed. That truck would go ANYWHERE! I had a 3 inch suspension lift and a 3 inch body lift running on 33x12.50's everything else was completely stock. I'm moving to Australia, you guys are awesome!!!!!
Kenneth Grimmett Was it 4x4 swapped?
But no 2nd ammendment in AU
Howd ya go?move yet?
I have a 2008 2-door jeek wrangler Jk and i WISH more then life itself, that i could just trade it in for ANY of the vehicles i see in this video. These guys make me COMPMETELY re-think my idea of offroad and adventure. These rigs are AMAZING! you guys are incredible and i can't wait to see your next adventure!
axeman787 if you make your Jeep a Rubicon add a 3 inch lift and 35s you will go through alot more than these guys if you wanna tow then go with dodge power wagon
That shouldn't be too hard, or are you in America where you simply can't get these vehicles?
I absolutely love yalls show!! What adventures you guys go on! Love to be apart of that!!
Ol mate at 2:05 nearly drops camera. Good on ya fellas. Good to see shorty
Love watching your videos, seems like some great friendships!!! Love the 4x4 guys, yall are the best
35 inch tyres...if everyone has those, the ruts would get larger and larger and larger, especially when people dont got front and rear diff locks...
gonna be impossible for people without heavy modification and $$k in mods
The more capable a rig is the less damage it will do spinning tires. 35s aired down and twin locked is the way to go.
@@mnss6311 lockers dig corners out
It'd be awesome if when things go wrong in the engine bay that you guys run us through how you diagnose certain things, I'm not very exposed to mechanical things but it's always been something I've wanted to learn, one of the best skills you can learn in my opinion
"Find you're favourite seat" me on the toilet
Classic line "you don't whinge when someone gives you a beer mate" 🤣 🤣 🤣
Keep these coming, could watch them all day
I envy every one of you blokes. To see you all enjoy yourselves makes me feel proud I'm Australian, well done men.
Seal of approval from a native Bostonian for that Red Sox hat the Hilux driver is wearing!
so entertaining ,helpful video I'm learning many things about Off-roading big thanks to 4wd action 🤙🏻🤙🏻
You’ve got anew viewer from the great Mojave Desert in California!! Safe travels !!
Sneaking that skamper camper sponsor in at the first camp lol
You make us yanks so happy when you post these.
I reckon you guys would have some awsome terrain, Australia is very flat.
Oh... And 47:05
You earned a like for the horsey Graham! Hahahaha
Ohhhhhhh the old dirty 30 😍💜😍💜😍💜
"it's just one of those things you've gotta do... take sickies or whatever you gotta do"
"you can't say that"
"yes, you can"
hahaha great guys
I love watching this best show can't wait to get my ute ready for the tracks
The lux sounded like a mower in some parts
With 61 hp it may well have been one lol
Graham really does look graceful when he kangaroos into the water
just a little tip, ur meant to add butter into crumble mix as a binder/taste
As a chef the lack of butter was the first thing I picked too
yeah was abit strange, would have been alot yummer with it . but practice makes perfect i guess :)
Kostik Yoda they’re right though.
You guys are sick, excellent shots and edit!🔥🔥😍
What a beautiful video guys! This is what it's all about! Loved every frame of it.
For all the nay sayers watching this years later. I live in the US were Diesel Toyotas are very rare. I picked one one a year ago, a 85 Toyota 4x4 diesel with bull bar, rear locker, Rancho shocks, and some other upgrades. Runs and drives, solid frame motor and drivetrain. Needs rockers and other body work as well as some minor repairs. Bought for 1500. Not a common buy, I got lucky. Just wanted to let people know they are out there if you look.
The older 80s Hiluxs are getting hard to find in decent usable condition here in Australia, but still plenty if you're willing to restore an old rusty one thats been taken off the road and most are diesel. I recently got a diesel 1981 Hilux 4wd LN46 for $2000 aud with a steel tray, canopy, bullbar, scrub bars and side steps. It's some kind of SR5 model i think, got the stripey leather bucket seats and SR5 steering wheel, someone appears to have swapped in a 5 speed at some point too.
I might have to send over a bunch of old Hilux engines, i never realised the diesel versions were so rare in America until recently
"You cant say that mate", "you can".... xD
4wd action what radios do y'all use in y'all rigs? One of my favorite channels because it's more real life and reminds me of camel trophy. Howdy from Texas
Radios are most likely 80ch UHF CBs
Everything is bigger in Australia!
Google oricom
"there are no crocodiles here" Famous last words.
Reading the comments here I have to ask myself why are many so negative? It's not like these guys are plotting to take Poland in 2 weeks.
4 years later the biggest take away from this vid is the evolution of the camper trailers lol
Guys im loving this. Ive got a Gen 1 Pajero 2.5TD with locked front for 1k. Ill be doing the tele next year.
nice
It shows that you can hit this track in anything, even a Nissan patrol
HAHAHAHA Oh so funny
wait a minute... are you a 80 series owner??
Yea the difference is my gu can sit in the creeks all day and I'll stay dry
@@outlawdingo3020 why do people even bother with utes smh

lets be honest 😁 one of the most enjoyable things for a patrol owner its to tow his land cruiser friend 😁😁😁😂😂😂
yeh your right it doesn't happen oftern
great video loving these full episodes
I love this Chaneel. Greetings from Slovenia 🇸🇮
As an American with a "Tacoma" or as you Aussies say "HiLux" I loved this video! Keep em coming!
Wait... the hilux is just a AU tacoma?
@@claireelliot6846 nah, the Tacoma is just an American Hilux
The American tacoma is a whole different vehicle platform. It might share engines and transmissions but the frame and body are unique to American trucks.
The hilux 1990 surf will make that track look easy
jockos face at 2:33 complete change ahaha
I miss shorty so very much!
So do we!
One minute he's singing the praises of an automatic, and the next he's clutch starting his vehical. You can't have it both ways. I'd choose the versatility of a manual any day.
Epic wish I was following along in my own truck great job guys
What a Beast!
What a great video. Thanks from an enthusiast in the UK!!
you guys should get a unimog onto the show
i had just dome the great central road and wemt down a side road, at that time we got bogged with a trailer on. and like they said in the video we aswell had our wintch pack up
I just love it how its all explained why and how it went wrong or for that matter the opposite.. I've just bought a Lux sr5 03 and fitted 31inch tires (brand new set of wheels&tires got'm cheap as fu*k from a totaled lux). But in the long run i see those might need an upgrade. For now it will do! Great vids tho. I subbed!
Fantastic channel boys. Love your work! God bless Straya mate.
Jack Absolom, would have pissed the job in his 2wd mitsubishi estate on his own !!!....RIP...Jack.
Holy dooley years back Graham's looking ten yrs younger
One thing on me bucket list is make it to cape York on the Tele track
Thinking of doing a trip Myself. But I don't have a winch on the Hilux, so I'd need a second Truck witch me
The guy in the video is incorrect about the pitcher plant. They can not close their lid. It is just their to keep some of the rain out but not all. They actually make the fluid that fills the pitcher and it mixes with rain water. These are a species of nepenthes. He may be confusing them with a much rarer Australian carnivorous plant called a cephalotus which can close its lid, these do close their lid when they sense changes in humidity to keep rain water out. I have grown over 40 species of carnivorous plants.
You Australian blokes are my kinda people!
