OMG this is Vickie Randal (tonight show) and I doing back up for this.....this is incredibly funny because I didn't know they were filming this to show......we had a blast.....Todd is an incredible singer and so is the great Bobby Womack.
Truly Amazing man and musician. This production is off the hook Bobby Womack adds so much class and style. How Rndgren is not in Rock and Roll Hall of Fame ????
When our cable company got a second public access channel, they had nothing to put on it. So they would replay pilots of never made TV shows and long format music videos. This is one that they played a lot and I have liked the song ever since.
Took my 7 year old son (at that time) to see this tour at The Tower Theater in Upper Darby, PA. Todd's old hometown! We made our own shirts copying the handprint from the album cover. We had a blast! My son drew a picture of Todd with his goofy glasses and I have it to this day. I cherish that I could share that time with my son. He's now 23 and a student at the Art Institute of Philadelphia. I hope he goes far in his creativity, just like Todd did.
thks for this mix,, RnR halll of fame material,, anyone who says different is nuts,, one of the great writer , songwriters of our time...Always loved his sound from the beginning..
One of my all time fave Todd songs. I love this cd,so much more then just this one song on there that's great. First time seeing the video. Thanks for the post.
I loved Todd with a passion around the S/A and Todd period. Fortunately I rediscovered him with the "Almost Human" album. To these ears, this album is just below the Runt/SA high watermark but is as good as anything else he ever did. And this is not only my favorite track off the album it's my all-time favourite TR track. Just unbelievably moving.
Amazing...absolutley amazing....i remember hear this song on the radio....and turned into the nearest record store and bought the album "Nearly Human" I still have it of course...thank you Rundgrenfan....I've always been a huge fan as well.....since the "Utopia" days....and thank you Vickie for such great backgrounds vocals...HEHE ...and funny moves....superb song....Todd with Bobby Womack....miracles are bound to happen...
Todd Rundren! One of the most animated performers I've ever seen in concert. I saw him maybe a year or two after this song was recorded with one of Ringo Starr's All Star Band iterations. I was sceptical, but I had an absolute blast. All the performers were great - each artist sang maybe 3 of their songs. I remember Rundren jumping up on top of the speaker stacks while playing guitar - classic! There's an excellent display dedicated to him at the Rock N' Roll Hall Of Fame. I loved it!
Like the last part says, "What's all this talk about horses and war?" What it's really trying to convey is the power of love. Without love, the world is lost. Which is basically the overall message of the movie CAMP, it's all about being special and loved at the same time.
I followed the progress of "Nearly Human" being made threw the "Utopia Times" newsletter, our then snail mail Todd Rundgren connection. I never anticipated an album release by Todd more. Seeing Todd do "Hawking" @ the Roxy in Atlanta recently brought back those magical moments of being intimate with this album, Damn, almost 20 years ago?
Don't quit - DO NOT GIVE UP; It will be if you realize, like David Buckle did at his first apartment, where our front door faced the walls unit in Huntsville, TX. Life was good, yet there was no sense of ease. Was making it, maybe not how you would; but Life was what I made of it. Years before 1992 I gave all of my control to God. I can only suggest you do too. It is harsh to sensibilities for those who put God away; or just don't care about faith in a higher power.
The song is about the theory of connectivity. For the want of a nail (a nail was missing/forgotten, in the horseshoe), the horse (carrying the messenger) eventually lost its shoe, causing it too fall down, and break its leg... thus the messenger failed to deliver the message, causing the battle to be lost, causing the Kingdom to be lost! FROM THE VERY OLD RHYME OF 1360!!
Larry Tagg is my bass hero. I used to see him in Sacramento in a band called "Uncle Rainbow". This was '78. I used to see him all the time in the Citrus Heights 7/11. Fukk'en great bass player.
Had to pause this in case my eyes were deceiving me, and yes, there are five fingers and one thumb on the hand pulling the pages over! Oh yeah, and Todd rocks!
I saw this a while back and loved it Jeanie, but there's been some awesome enhancement since back then (it was good back then too)! It sounds better though, has more footage...just an all around great vid at this point even though all I ask is for good sound quality! Great job singin' Jeanie!
This video was from the Second Wind sessions, a live recording set up as a studio with an audience, so the band had the energy of a live performance and an audience, but with much better recording quality. Oh and the Father of Computer Graphics, Jim Blinn, is on trombone.
That's hilarious I thought I heard him say "suspicious" instead of auspicious. But wanna know funnier?.... It's that he didn't skip a beat in going on about his view on ..... whatever!
It's all about the domino effect. One small thing "not" done (or done) can have a ripple effect on other things you might not even realize. It's not a literal "nail".
I remember Norman Smart being mentioned on a bootleg recording of a WMMR live performance in 1971, which ended with an impromptu PSA on bicycle safety. Not much difference in quality between that live performance, and the Nearly Human one.
Can I please ask... what does this song even mean? It makes more sense than a lot of songs taken from pop culture and put into the movie "CAMP" but I'm still a bit lost. Thought I'd ask here.
What is the character played by Damon Wayans on In Living Color where he's a militant Black Power radio/talk show host and he keeps using words incorrectly? That's him at the beginning of the video. It's AUSPICIOUS!!
Gotta disagree with that, or at least suggest that there are other interpretations. I see the "nail" as love that was missing. The blacksmith lived a life without love, and one day he couldn't take it anymore and didn't get up. As a result, the kingdom was lost... I take that as the point--proactive love makes the world go around. Without it, it all unwinds.
The Great Bobby Womack-And Todd-this is your finest song ever. God bless.
THIS is one of my VERY FAVORITE Todd videos...you can FEEL the excitement, every single time....yep, just awesome!
31 years later and I'm so in love this with track!! - Can't stop listening to all versions on RUclips!
I love this song....I "really" love this song!!!
OMG this is Vickie Randal (tonight show) and I doing back up for this.....this is incredibly funny because I didn't know they were filming this to show......we had a blast.....Todd is an incredible singer and so is the great Bobby Womack.

Todd's high note at 4:05 is enough reason to watch this, but Bobby Womack too..... Priceless! RIP Bobby.
Seriously, this is one of my all-time favorite songs. I've yet to hear/watch a rendition that doesn't send chills up my spine.
Todd is the best live...dont miss him...
This song is kick ass! Great video footage, incredible talent. On of my favorite Todd songs.

Todd is Godd, Michele, Goddess!!!
Love you forever, Todd.

Here's that Wizard, A True Star again, doing an amazing chart with another legend, Bobby Womack. Great message needed for these times.....
MUSIC!!!! Lyrics! Real Artists!! LOVE YOU TODD!

Love it, saw both renditions of this tour, absolutely awesome... Fabulous memories. Thanks for posting.

Rest in Peace Vince , we miss you brother

FROM THE VERY OLD RHYME OF 1360!!
The process: Turning a Great song into Exceptional ... add Bobby Womack, Todd’s Wife and a couple of incredible sisters to back it up.
You'll look pretty far and wide to find musicians like Todd. I credit him for a good portion of my musical education and I've never even met him.
Now the world, want of Bobby …missing so much.

Oh and the Father of Computer Graphics, Jim Blinn, is on trombone.
Oh I remember this - this dude was experimenting with the Amiga and the Video Toaster back in the day, which I followed.
Really enjoy this
Jeanie is amazing as always :)
Great video! truly a great song.
That's hilarious I thought I heard him say "suspicious" instead of auspicious. But wanna know funnier?.... It's that he didn't skip a beat in going on about his view on ..... whatever!
Enjoyed tremendously, it outta be illegal ;-)
I love the 6 fingered hand in the transitions.
:-)
One can still learn something new from a 14-year-old comment...
that Hand is hilarious!! 🤣🖐🏼
Yes, that is Vince Welnick!
It's all about the domino effect. One small thing "not" done (or done) can have a ripple effect on other things you might not even realize.
It's not a literal "nail".
This made me happy, thank you lol
this video rocks. thank you!
....and to clarify my last post....The quality of both performances were incredible, to say the least!
R.I.P. Bobby Womack
I feel sorry for the 3 eejits who apparently don't understand pop perfection when they hear it.
According to the liner notes in the record, Vince plays piano on this track.
dig it Bibby ....
Don't miss the forest for the trees.
Love the song and the video but this makes me miss Vinnie.
I remember Norman Smart being mentioned on a bootleg recording of a WMMR live performance in 1971, which ended with an impromptu PSA on bicycle safety. Not much difference in quality between that live performance, and the Nearly Human one.

Anyone notice how Michele is gettin' down with her bad self in this video??? haha
Is that Vince Welnic on piano by chance, just asking ?
Sixth finger
I wish I could understand all the words, then maybe I could tell you.
What is the character played by Damon Wayans on In Living Color where he's a militant Black Power radio/talk show host and he keeps using words incorrectly? That's him at the beginning of the video.
It's AUSPICIOUS!!

I take that as the point--proactive love makes the world go around. Without it, it all unwinds.
That's the specific take. Leave out the most basic ingredient out, and the entire recipe fails.
Hotter than Georgia asphalt @
.oh yeah..i LOVE that Todd "stole" Larry Tagg (bassist) from his own band! heehee...
