My favorite subtle structure thing about this song is that the 2nd verse/chorus keep the sincere bit going Because you go into that 2nd verse thinking “ok what’s the joke? I know it’s coming” but it doesn’t come! Maybe this is just a serious sentimental song after all! And then…bam
Exactly. Total credit for keeping the sincerity long enough for the audience to think "I was suspicious, but okay, this is a really sweet and marvelously-produced performance and puppetry piece. Good to see SNL evolving and broadening. I am enjoying this." Then bam indeed!
I think my favorite thing about this is that you can only assume she's been in this house a gargantuan amount of times and she's never even started to glance at the hand written un-covered VHS tapes labeled "blonde hitchhiker" and "2 trick-or-treaters."

This is an amazing video, i dont know nor care if its funny, but is rewatchable to see and look for the small details. Like the head been always there, the movie titles, and even the books on the shelf are all about murders; "The people's choice" by Jeff Greenfield or "U is for Undertow" by Sue Grafton... truly a masterpiece of subtlety
I came fishing in the comments for exactly this! I paused to read the titles, but they didn't ring a bell for me - good to know they're exactly what I expected them to be, lol!
There’s an episode of Raising Hope where they light up themselves and their space like that. Virginia: With all of your fingers?! Bert: I like to mix it up! Different ones get to different places.
I knew there was gonna be a twist with the dad because they kept showing him. I thought it was gonna be a creeper angle or something. This was really well done
Last week's return of The Lonely Island wasn't a big enough clue for you? Though that could have been written off as "It’s SNL's 50th season and they're bringing back old favorites as well as creating new ones." And the end vanity plate "A Dan Bulla Short" shows some of his best work (Shrimp Tower, Pongo the Swedish Pet, The Singing Skin Tag Meatballs, and Tiny Horse. The last one isn't as morbid as those or even this one, but it's nice to know that Dan Bulla did work on that sketch since that is considered a fan favorite). EDIT: They brought back Please Don't Destroy on the episode after this hosted by Michael Keaton. So, yeah, SNL's pretaped sketch game is picking up.
This was without doubt one of the finest skits I’ve ever seen on this show since the 1970’s when I started watching. First of all the song itself was a hit - could have been in a hit musical. Next is Ariana is flat out the best hostess living or dead on this show . Next was the animatronics and breathing life into everything was disneyeque perfection. At 02:14 when Ariana enters the house again you can see the bottom of the stairs to the 2nd floor on the left side (behind the hazmat guys)
Reaching
Blue Walls = (D)anger lawalz 🤣
i can´t believe the license plate at the very beginning says ¨XWRDKLER¨ 💀💀💀
"My best friend's house" is now a
Halloween bop. 😂
as long as you're not the subject of the "2 Trick or Treaters Oct 2012" tape
REAL REAL REAL
"Oh my god it was full of teeth" has me HOWLINNNNNNG
Mikey Day is brilliant in every sketch.
I need a sequel to this. it's so good
My favorite subtle structure thing about this song is that the 2nd verse/chorus keep the sincere bit going
Because you go into that 2nd verse thinking “ok what’s the joke? I know it’s coming” but it doesn’t come! Maybe this is just a serious sentimental song after all!
And then…bam
Exactly. Total credit for keeping the sincerity long enough for the audience to think "I was suspicious, but okay, this is a really sweet and marvelously-produced performance and puppetry piece. Good to see SNL evolving and broadening. I am enjoying this." Then bam indeed!
This is the proof Ariana can make hits singing about ANYTHING!
This can be in Top 10 conversation of her best hits 😂

I think my favorite thing about this is that you can only assume she's been in this house a gargantuan amount of times and she's never even started to glance at the hand written un-covered VHS tapes labeled "blonde hitchhiker" and "2 trick-or-treaters."
I believe those are what they call 'snuff films'.
She did but she thought they were just movies her family didnt have. She said it herself.
and that she's still alive.
@@roundtwo3321she’s either extremely lucky or her bf’s dad genuinely liked her 🤣🤣 or maybe he’s only got a thing for blondes lol
It's because she has the darkness too lol
this might be one of my favourite snl skits of all time, i love these new midnight matinees
THIS IS SUCH A BRILIANT SKETCH SO FUNNY AND SIMPLE BUT SO CLEVER AND AWESOME, CRAZY PLOT TWIST AND THE END WITH THE DAD DROPPING THAT HE CAN HEAR THE FURNITURE AND THEY MADE HIM DO IT AND SHE CAN ALSO HEAR THEM AND SHE HAS SOME DARKNESS?? LOVE
Why are you shouting?
THIS IS SUCH A BRILLIANT COMMENT SO MUCH CLEVER WORDS AND GREAT THOUGHTS ABOUT WHAT YOU JUST WATCHED BUT IN ACTUALITY, ALL YOU DID WAS REGURGITATE WHAT YOU SAW AND WROTE IT IN ALL CAPS FOR SOME GOD-FORSAKEN REASON.
LEAVE ME ALONE I WAS HIGH AND DYING OF LAUGHTER, LITERALLY KEEP SCROLLING IF IT URKS YOU THAT BAD LMFAO
@@dumbinic2118oh word? I didn’t realize getting high makes you type in all caps with absolutely no attempt at punctuation or sentence structure. Judging from your newest comment, you’re STILL high. 🤔😂
THIS SHOULD BE A MOVIE, THE STORY MAKES GOOD THRILLER I THINK
3:22 that’s me on the left, the little bald thing
Robert Smeigel is proud.
Pongo!
the cop?
PONGO???
PONGO
I genuinely really love the melody 😭
I felt so smart when i saw the police and *immediately* understood the cleaning supplies, names of the tapes and the dad in the garage, all for them to explain it in the 3rd verse... LMAO 😭💀
Pongo, tiny horse, and little meatball man at the end are amazing
And the shrimp tower. I assume Dan Bulla was the mastermind behind those sketches.
3:19 when she swallows or breathes in perhaps fearfully- priceless quick moment at the end! Nailed it! 😂❤🎉
“There were drains in the living room” ?!?! 😹☠️
more of this please
Why do I love this song? I want them to make it like an actual Apple Music song ❤❤❤❤
I said the same thing to my daughter. It’s a bop! 😂
I CANNOT BELIEVE THIS was made in less than a week. INCREDIBLY IMPRESSIVE. Editing on point set design perfect . Writing phenomenal and the vocals bitch snl get your Emmy and Grammy
This is prerecorded so I'm certain that it was planned, written, and recorded longer than a week ago. She would have known that she was slotted for this week months ahead. Remember, they've been off air for the summer but that doesn't mean they weren't planning, writing and prerecording.
Seriously? No way this was done in a week.
That's what I'm saying, this feels like the perfect elevator pitch for a Broadway musical telling the larger story at play - quirky, fun, and dark.
non-ironically, this turned out really well and i spend the whole day with the chorus stuck in my head.
I am absutelyyyy dumbfounded by the plot twist! And a bop song too!
2:51 that UV test got me😅🤣
That somehow beautiful and add a lot of drama to the song..
There’s an episode of Raising Hope where they light up themselves and their space like that.
Virginia: With all of your fingers?! Bert: I like to mix it up! Different ones get to different places.
Arianna has to be a dream host!! She did great tonight. The Jennifer skit had me laughing
OMG i didn't expect that going in😂💯💯💯
I've already watched this for several times now. So good, they could make a spin-off. 😂
The tune reminds me of "Brave" by Sara Bareilles. Great sketch!
OMG THANK YOU! something was itching in the back of my brain, like I could hear it in the distance! It was this! The song is like Brave by Sara!
Omg! I needed you to say that, too! It was killing me that I couldn’t figure out what song it sounds like 🥳 thank you thank you thank you!
0:53 This is where I knew something was wrong, and I'm so glad it was.
That could easily have been the girl being a chemical addict. But the twist here is fine too.
I knew there was gonna be a twist with the dad because they kept showing him. I thought it was gonna be a creeper angle or something.
This was really well done
Same! I thought "..... wait a minute, something doesn't add up!" 🤔😂
@@robertheadley3483 i was also thinking if the dad was gonna be a perv too, especially when they mentioned him being divorced 🤣🤣
2:45 Sarah Sherman head in the fridge ftw
From Disney to Horror with no warning.
Or in this case, from Disney Channel to FX.
There's Nickelodeon in there somewhere, but that might count as horror, too, considering the abuse she went through.
I hope this means we're back to doing actually good digital shorts, this was great.
Last week's return of The Lonely Island wasn't a big enough clue for you? Though that could have been written off as "It’s SNL's 50th season and they're bringing back old favorites as well as creating new ones."
And the end vanity plate "A Dan Bulla Short" shows some of his best work (Shrimp Tower, Pongo the Swedish Pet, The Singing Skin Tag Meatballs, and Tiny Horse.
And the twist wasn’t just a twist - it was morbidly a whole new stunning third. I’m watching again!
No animatronics - those were puppets! Just like Henson. I was blown away to find this out, myself!
This is one of my favorite skits of all time.
I finally found the song this melody is from. It's from Brave by Sara Bareilles.
Yes😂
I couldn't figure it out, thanksss❤
It’s actually not it’s break free by Ariana grande
I heard it in my head but couldn't figure out what it was, thanks
