I like the concept of the Rail thing. It's not singular magnet post centric. Bleeds string vibration into each other, still defining the last string. Need a good bridge for intonation longevity, for me anyway. Dig Duncan.
I use the original naz/sent in 6 string and 7 string versions and I prefer the originals over the rails because I feel like original nazgul humbuckers chug harder, growl heavier, but keep a tight passive tone. Great for doom or brutal death metal! The lows in the nazgul rails seem a little thinner but sustain in the upper mids are very interesting to me. After watching this video Im considering using nazgul rails for black metal stuff. As for sentient, I prefer the original over rails............ thanks for this awesome video.
Rails designs are great for lead guitars since they will pickup the string vibes from all points, so you can bend them around and it'd be smooth. I'm thinking of getting these to a lead guitar and have my Black Winters in the rhythm
I have the original set and I really like the tone of each pickup. I play mostly Stoner Doom, Doom, and Sludge. The guitar that these pickups are in is down tuned to B, sometimes Drop A. The original set aren't too bright which is what I was looking for at the time. They love fuzzy dirt and sounds great clean. Funeral Doom sounds so massive when using a Rat style pedal. The new set really sounds good, great demo as usual.
I've just put a set of the Naz / Sent pole set into an EC 1000 and removed the stock EMG's, it's not the same guitar afterwards. Great set. Looking to remove another set of EMG and install them into a Gibson Les Paul studio, which is overall darker. Great review, great set 🔥
My wife ordered me a set yesterday for Christmas. I saw your video today and I’m hopeful they fit. I’m direct mounted. Let’s cross our fingers. They’re going in a Harley Benton Fusion T HH Roasted FNT. I own Gibsons, Fenders, Schecters, and LTDs and this is my favorite guitar. I’m new to your channel but if you check out budget priced guitars, this one is incredible before my mods.
Finally a demo where these sound good. I may be replacing the bridge of my Cyclops with this. I’ve got a Mojotone 44 Magnum in there currently and it’s mud city. I’m gonna try swapping out the screw pole pieces for hex bolts to see if that changes anything for the better first, then if that doesn’t work out then I’m probably gonna throw one of these in
Mag swapped a Distortion to Alnico 8 and am very happy with the results (like a really hot A2 feel). Made me curious about this set, since I already have and use the Nazgul in one of my main tracking axes, and the A8 + Blade sounded interesting.
I put a roughcast A5 in my SH6 and i love it. Ive tried the A8 in a x2n and a JB4 but i didn't like them as much. Roughcast A5 is my jam, Ive swapped them into a bunch of pickups and i love it.
I put them in my Ormsby metal x and I absolutely love them, MORE than the original. Unfortunately I did have to resize the pickup route, but it was worth it.
I was looking at these myself as it avoids the pole pieces being out of alignment with the Ormsby angles. Which part of the routing did you have to change?
@ then I’m a hold up and wait to do a pick up swap. I’ve got Black winners in my flying V and an EH Wolfgang in my Kramer that is great but not for me so I’ll hold up
Brighter for sure, and tighter, both are pretty hot but the black winter is like all of the mid range and the Naz rail is upper mids spikey specifically.
@MetalHeadProductions does it play better than the thing it is based on? I have been thinking about an edwards les paul over the years. I am sure the FGN is a killer.
@philipcoaxum8792 oh 100% this plays better than any Les Paul I've ever tried, and beyond owning 96' Les Paul, I worked at a Sam ash for a while and played plenty, this guitar is a dream to play.
I have a few tracks up on bandcamp and a RUclips page for the band, Phantom Wizard. That project isn't done yet, just like my death metal project. Between the day job and working on videos I don't have a ton of spare time, haha. Search for phantom wizard on RUclips, you should be able to find a song called Breath of the universe
@MetalHeadProductions nice! Thanks man. Just ordered this set in crimson red, and saw the rails after. Wasn't sure of the difference.i see now it's different magnet & brighter slightly hotter sound. Thanks for the video!
I hate the normal set Sentient and Nazgul, they sound to harsh, I had them in my solar 7 string and after a couple times playing I sold the guitar because they sounded to harsh
No it doesn't, that's the out of mix, that starts there that I have setup in the timeline already. There's also information about the pickups and a cool in mix.

What I notice about rail pickups in general is the very specific attack sound - can clearly hear it on this vid too.

"Don't go watching my old videos" Man, I remember seeing your old SD Custom Shop vids lmao
Yes sir shout out to Keith Merrow. Got me the km6 mkii with his signature fishmans few years back and it's still one of my favorite guitars.
I've just put a set of the Naz / Sent pole set into an EC 1000 and removed the stock EMG's, it's not the same guitar afterwards. Great set.

I love my Wes hauchs. So nice. These sound good too

Great playing.
SD always knocks it out 🤘
FGN guitar hell yeah! sounds awesome! Cradle of filth vibes!

As always, epic AF.
Love your playing Sick channel

Yeah they're killer, bummer about the pickup route though
I was looking at these myself as it avoids the pole pieces being out of alignment with the Ormsby angles. Which part of the routing did you have to change?
@@samuelbrook1126 I had to widen the route itself, so I just filed the 4 corners.
Really like this set, put them in my prs Holcomb. Great video
Do you have the 6 or 7 string? Was considering this swap for my Holcomb SVN
@shaneapplegate206 i have the 6 string version
I wish they would do with black winters
I told them this too and apparently they're getting a lot of requests for it so fingers crossed!
@ then I’m a hold up and wait to do a pick up swap. I’ve got Black winners in my flying V and an EH Wolfgang in my Kramer that is great but not for me so I’ll hold up
I'm a huge fan of the Jupiter's, I want to play the Nazgul Rail in 7 string.
These are as good as the originals if not better
I really like those Jupiter's and the tones Wes Hauch rocks out . Are these pickups similar to his?
Jupiter is a bit hotter with a bit more low-end, but they're still very hot and bright like the Jupiter
Really sick demo! How do they compare to the SD Jupiter Rails?
Similar output but the Jupiter is bit hotter and has more low-end than these do, which is probably why the output is a bit hotter.
how do they compare to black winters?
My first question also
@@rodentsnatch i mean i can answer that question pretty soon but I wanna hear his take too 😁
Brighter for sure, and tighter, both are pretty hot but the black winter is like all of the mid range and the Naz rail is upper mids spikey specifically.
@ thanks man!
@@genghisghost Yeah have a set of Blackwinters and love them so I'm naturally interested in these also
came back to hear that epic song Where do you release your stuff?
Oh thanks, man! I have a band camp for a lot of what I feature here. Gotta add some more to that soon, and I'll be putting stuff in Spotify soon too.
@ you go under metalhead productions on bandcamp?
Jeez that fgn is pretty
Dude, right? That guitar is gorgeous
@MetalHeadProductions does it play better than the thing it is based on? I have been thinking about an edwards les paul over the years. I am sure the FGN is a killer.

Hey, man, did you ever come out with that? Doommetal band, that you were talking about doing a few months ago
I have a few tracks up on bandcamp and a RUclips page for the band, Phantom Wizard. That project isn't done yet, just like my death metal project. Between the day job and working on videos I don't have a ton of spare time, haha.

can anyone explain the difference bteween the original and the rails? I am not sure i undertsand :) thanks
Different magnets and they have blades instead of pole pieces. They also have more output and more top end than the originals.
Weird, I'd never say those were harsh. What was the rest of your setup?
Video starts at 8:17
