Paolo Maldini is easily the greatest defender of all time. He’s the best left back of all time and genuinely may even be the best centre back of all time. He was a left back predominantly during his career but as he got older, he was moved more central and he hadn’t lost it. He was still unbelievable. Interceptions, blocks, tackles. He was immense at it all.
Period. Winning UCL at 38 being a defender and the captain is no joke. The Greatest Defender of all time and one of the greatest footballers ever.
Although I agree he is the best, I wouldn’t say ‘easily’ 😂
Beckenbauer is close tho
@@stubannati beckenbauer was a libero he start the game in defence but play like a midfielder
Almost... Franco Baresi. Maldini's mentor.
The fact that you are geeking out over defending means you're now truly a football nerd. Defending is consistently underrated on RUclips. Enjoying the hell out of your content. Keep it up!
agree! Now you are really appreciating REAL football!! It's not all about dribbling but also about hot to tackled too.
You should check out Maldini(Centre-back) and Philip Lahm(Right-back) they’re both the best players in their respective positions ever imo
One thing I find the most impressive which you didn't mention (but probably noticed?) is the risk involved in many of these tackles. It's a hard tackle to do without committing a foul to begin with, and then they do it inside the box, which means it's a penalty shot if they fail. Doing tackles inside the box MUST be perfect so you don't give the other team a penalty shot.
Defenders never get enough recognition! I enjoy your videos ! And I love how your learning to love the game. I feel like I’m seeing your passion for the sport grow.
A great tackle or clearance in your box, is just as important as a goal. Plus some of them are so satisfying to watch lol
my soccer coach in high school would tell us "either the ball gets past or the player gets past; never both" - that was our defensive mindset. led to a lot of yellow cards but still worked lol
YESSS, I HAVE BEEN RECOMMENDING THIS VID TO YOU FOR DAYSS
a lot of van dijk, nesta, maldini, ramos, cannavaro and baresi, the best of the last decades
You should react to the legend named Paolo Maldini. You’re welcome!
Quick question.. you are getting fit with this football training ❓⁉️❓⁉️ i really think you look more fit than first vids i watched .. keep the good work with reactions and on the field training
No surprise that some of the best defenders are Italian. Fabio Cannavaro, Franco Baresi, Alessandro Costacurta, Paolo Maldina to name a few. Others are Jaap Stam, Nemanja Vidic, Ledley King, Carles Puyol, Fernando Hierro. All world class defenders worth checking out if possible
Ledley King? The others are true legends but Ledley King?
There better be at least, Maldini, Nesta, Chiellini and Cannavaro in this video (yes guys, i know that Baresi existed, don't get mad at me, i only listed the more recent ones) Italians had the greatest defenders in every different eras of football...sorry Ramos fan, i am sure Ramos himself would say the same as well.
Looking at the thumbnail majority is gonna be the modern Defenders. :(. But I agree Italians have the best Defenders of all time.
"greatest defenders I'm every different era" except Beckenbauer!
@@epicmarschmallow5049 of course there, are/were great defenders in every country, i just meant that in every single era at least a couple of italians were among the very best.
OK, in the video there were all of them including Bonucci, Barzagli and Baresi....even one clip from Florenzi 🤣 (he is not really known for his defensive play at all)...all in all, a great video, maybe a little bit too much Van Dijk...but it understandable given he has been one of the greats of the more recent years, and i guess only one clip of Cannavaro is also too little in my opinion, since he is one of the only 3 defenders in history to have won the Balon D'Or.....also at 7:03 , that is Nesta for you....if he didn't play in the same squad as Maldini (arguably the best defender of all time) he would probably have been considered more in the GOAT conversation as well...but he was just "unlucky" to have Maldini at his side....and yes, as you probably have guessed, Italians are more represented in the defenders category than any other country.
6:17 bro sacrificed his entire head but his mate got the ball on time 😆👌
10:24 finally a successful sacrifice 🍻
After watching this you should rewatch the wc. Perhaps the final. Some good defendin from Romero and Otamendi (bar the penalty)
If you want to react to goalkeepers, try Chilavert
Pretty good video but it was missing lots of Thiago Silva.. I think I only saw one Thiago clip in there.
Idea: react to a video about johan cruyff's legendary barcelona dream team. They won the club's first champions league with players such as now manager guardiola, koeman, laudrup and romario.
You'll learn a lot about one of the greatest and most influential teams ever
I would request "This is why Steven Gerrad is the ultimate midfielder" if I had the money to get the channel membership. Played his entire career in one club despite the many offers from great teams and mangers alike and albeit playing a "shitty" team.
I’ve seen his name pop up from several others as well. I will keep him on my list for sure 👍🏼
Yeah that guy was a beast. Strong and tough, never stops running. And great allround attacking with a thunderous long shot
And people say trent cant defend
And still the defenders dont receive the necessary appreciation as a strikers or middlefielders do
Paolo Maldini will never be touched when it comes to defending. Followed closely by Alessandro Nesta. Then Franz and Baresi.
Can you react to bayern 2020, propebly the most impressive team ever
Could you please stop using those really really annoying overly surprised facial expressions on video title images? You don´t need to act stupid to get us to watch your videos :)
They are his own videos he does whatever he wants, when you make your own videos do whatever you want
@@giannisvizentinis1634 and regardless of that the thumbnails are, like you, objectively retarded. This is the persons own comment and they can comment as they like. When you make your own comment you can say what you want. Im sorry you like men making fellatio faces.
@@Stringer13ell unlike you i focus on what video he reacts to before i watch the video, instead of focusing on what he looks like on the thumbnail
@@Stringer13ell dude i just realised that you have written about his thumbnails before, but you still watch them so it doesnt make sense for him to change it because it works for him
@@giannisvizentinis1634 oh right. Unlike you I can do more than one thing at once, because I'm not an autist.
React on Neymar the hard way plsss bro
The defender who "wasted" Messi is Nesta. A legend. One of very best defenders ever, and one of the 3 with the most class. He played for Milan AC (amongst others), where 2 other legends played: Maldini and Baresi (all 3 are well represented in the video)
Baresi, greatest cb ever imo
There was a time where Milan had Maldini, Nesta and the hugely underrated Costacurta at the same time.
If I have to make a tackle, I've already made a mistake - Maldini
this^
Absolutely right.
Yes good defending is making a spectaculair tackle. Great defending is just preventing the opponent to create something by control of space and time. It's all about being at the right spot on the right time. Van Dijk is a great example of this: he has such great spatial awareness that he knows how to shut down an opponent without going to the ground.
actually this quote isn't real and is made up
That's a myth, he never say that
Italy has long been the homeland of the art of defending with Maldini, Baresi, Cannavaro, Nesta and more recently, Chiellini.
Can I add Bonucci, Zambrotta and Costacurta?
@@reporterid Is it bad that i never heard of the last 2 players?
@@ApocalypticFart Yes, it is, unless you are twelve years old. Zambrotta played for Juventus, Barcelona and Milan and retired in 2014. Costacurta played for Milan his whole career and retired in 2008. Both amazing defenders, though i wouldn't put them in the same league as Maldini, Nesta and Baresi.
@@reporterid Zambrotta was also an offensive player,.sometimes playing in the midfield. Costacurta and Bonucci good defenders but not at the same supertop level of Maldini, Baresi, Nesta and Cannavaro, in my opinion.
@@ApocalypticFart It depends: if you follow Italian football, yes XD
Several clips of Maldini in there, one of the worlds best defenders ever imo.
arguably the best tbh
Him and Beckenbauer are a cut above the rest
One of the world’s best players ever
@@epicmarschmallow5049 tbh it’s hard not to put Ramos up there with them too, and I hate him lmao
@@gunnar4915 he's one of the best but not in the same category of class like Maldini, Baresi, Beckenbaeur, Nesta etc..they were above the rest
7:05 That was a 36 year old Nesta against a 24 year old prime Messi. Absolutly majestic!
Fun fact: the first tackle on the video, Philipp Lahm, did not receive a single red card his entire career despite playing as a fullback and later on as a defensive mid. He also captained Bayern Munich to a Champions League win in 2013 an Germany to a World Cup win in 2014.
He also scored at additional time against Turkey in 2008 Euro semi-finals. Match ended 3-2. It still hurts me as a Turk. But we knew that we witnessed one of the goats of the game at that night so it's not that bad.
It's really interesting to see how your knowledge is growing. First videos you reacted, you just sit calm and watch "some highlights" without any emotions. Now, you know what you are watching. You are able to appreciate what you see on these highlights.
Great reaction, I would like you to watch Maldini & Nesta. They are definitely one of the best if not the best defenders of all time & could be in our generation still.
Maldini, Nesta and Cannavaro.
Maldini might be the only defender that could face Messi in 1 v 1
you should absolutely watch Raymar's video on how good was Paolo Maldini, sometimes considered the best defense to have played in the game ever, he completely modernized how the defense is played to be more preemptive rather than reactive
Love how fascinated you are by defending, it’s definitely a beauty to watch! Italy are known for producing amazing and elegant defenders such as Paolo Maldini. Also pls react to Phillip Lahm, one of the first defenders to play so versatile, amazing, and going forward with the ball as a wide-back/central defensive midfielder. Others like Beckenbaur, Sergio Ramos, Cannevaro, and many more are spectacular Center Backs to watch for defending. Marcelo, Cafu, Roberto Carlos, Lahm, Jordi Alba, Abidal, Cancelo, Trent many great full(wide) backs to watch for defending and how well they attack as well
you need to react to the greatest defender ever "Paolo Maldini"
Can you react to "This Is Sergio Ramos - The Gladiator HD|" next, he is one of the best and decorated centerbacks of all time. He is considered as a bad boy like Zlatan, take note that his playstyle and attitude is tough, super-aggressive, to win no matter what, and that he defends like his life depends on it. He is the 2nd most red carded player because of his playstyle of putting his life on the line and that's why I love him. He also do tactical fouls, which contributes to his red and yellow cards.
Defense! I play CB/sweeper, so I can actually talk like I know something for once, yay.
On sliding tackles, I basically stretch out my leg and my toe pointed straight. It helped in two ways- a) If I ended up catching someone's leg, it wouldn't be studs first, which avoided nasty injuries and cards for me, and b) your toe will move faster than your whole leg, and with enough practice I could make split second changes mid tackle to catch the ball with the tip of my boots.
However I must say, while sliding tackles are fun, the best defensive lines would only use it as a last resort. As Paolo Maldini, arguably the greatest defender ever (and makes up a good chunk of this video), once said "If I have to make a tackle, then I have already made a mistake". The best defensive lines learn patterns and anticipate passes, intercepting them without ever needing to make risky tackles. I highly suggest you check out a video on Maldini at some point, he's a legend amongst legend, possibly one of the greatest footballers of all time. Other than that, also look up Rio Ferdinand and Namaja Vidic, possibly the greatest centre back duo in premier League history.
Some legends that appeared on the video you should definitely check out: Franco Baresi, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Phillip Lahm, Fabio Cannavaro, Carles Puyol, Sergio Ramos, Rio Ferdinand, Giorgio Chiellini, Cafu.
Also, check some videos on the cattenaccio play style, it's a style mainly focused on defending and counter attacking
Also, another reason why a defensive position might work for you - eg a number 6 position, defensive midfielder, once you get back in shape - or central defender - is that that is a good position to start and build (construct) attacks, having the view of the entire field. For a strategic mind (a coach-like mind), that is a good position. And in modern football the entire team attacks, and the entire team defends - which means that a central defender or a defensive midfielder plays equal parts in organizing defense, and in organizing and participating in attack. Unlike in NFL, the roles of the various positions are not strictly separated, which is why you will see a nominal "left wing defender" running up and down the left flank, and assisting goals, or even scoring (eg Jordi Alba) - when their team is attacking; and then changing roles when the team is defending. The same, by the way, applies to midfielders and attackers - they all participate in all the functions of the team - ie the attackers need to be able to ply their defensive role etc. ,
@Luke's Sports Academy : 1000 times this. I admire new folks who want to be defenders. Most folks want the glory of putting the ball in the net. And @etme1000 is right about the modern game! One of the ways our guys (MLS squad) play here in Atlanta is to use our backs as a 'second wave' of attack. The #10 and the striker take it in, and if there's a defensive error on the opposing defense (GK punches out too far, defender misses a clearance and lets it bounce of the post, etc.) there's a back that picks the loose ball up and sends a rocket into the net through the chaos. Fun to watch.
Defenders also got to be careful not making dangerous tackles as they can result in yellow or red cards even if the tackle does not land on the player. Tackling with a straight foot at big speed and lifted off the ground is almost automatically a card, so you see them tackle with their chin or use the heel to wrap around the ball instead.
Maldini and Beckenbauer are regarded as the two greatest defenders ever
Don't let Baresi hear that!
Nope, Jake Buxton
If you know something about football history, you might have some ringing bells about some dude by the name of “DON ELIAS FIGUEROA”
It’s just some random guy who scared the shit out of some other guy by the name of “PELE”…….
Just do some research guys…..
Awesome Reaction Luke! It's good to see you react to Defending and this was the perfect video as it shows both the old school and present modern Defenders.
All the people recommending you to react to Paolo Maldini is a MUST. He is the Greatest Defender Football has ever seen and one of the Greatest Footballers. You should definitely react to him.
So much in football requires perfect, instinctive timing and reading of situations. Check out Thiago Silva he's got more refined at this in that at the age of 38/39 he's arguably Chelsea's best player thos season🔥
You should react to Beckenbauer. He's probably the best defender of all time. Some players to this day still aren't as skillful as him.
Many defenders (players making defensive moves being defenders or forwards) intercept balls. The key is to intercept the oponents play and give the ball to a teamate, that way begining an attack. That is why in modern football the first defenders are the forwards, they have the responsability of initiating the pressing manuevers to recuperate the ball. Just intercepting and stopping the opponents advance isnt desireble. recuperating the ball and leaving your team in an adecuate position to begin the attack is the desired result.
After u saw this clip u have to know the best defenders of all time: Sergio Ramos, Maldini and Cannavaro
U can react at them, are amazing
you primarily win a challenge by marking, blocking and intercepting. tackling is the last gasp challenge you do when you have no other options available. stay on your feet as long as you can.
You should look at Philip Lahm, he was one of the best defenders of all time. He never got a red card.
One thing you should know is that with tackle not only does your timing have to be right but you have to make contact with the ball before the player otherwise it’s a foul. Following the ball is more important than the player and any mistake can lead to a free kick or penalty kick.
Maldini + Nesta = best defender duo os all time... italy has a long tradition of center backs
You should react to Sunday League tackles compilation after this lol
Love your content! I'd love to see how you react to some of the world's greatest keepers. Buffon, Neuer, Casillas, Czech and many more are/were absolute gods when it comes to reflexes and instinct. My favorite is Oliver Kahn as he was very wild.
I was amazed to not see more of Thiago Silva (PSG, Chelsea) in that comp. Absolute Rolls-Royce of a footballer, still one of the best on the pitch at 38 (!) years old. ❤
if you want to see one of the best defenders, watch something about Paolo Maldini
If you're interested in shooting, you should react to amazing long shot goals. There are many players known for their great long shots, such as, Steven Gerard, Paul Scholes, David Beckham, Ronalndinho, Juninho, Alvaro Recoba, Adriano...and many more it's difficult to name them all but these are some of the greatest long shot takers.
If one of those guy miss the ball that's a red card.
You should watch Sergio Ramos the gladiator
Please react to el clásico, is the best rivalry in football
Midfield is the engine room where most captains play, defenders and forwards rely on the midfield👍
Luke, thank you for the videos, looking forward to more. Stay Healthy!
Great video reaction Luke... you are by far the best 'football learning' RUclipsr channel out there mate! I think the biggest irritation in the football world is the way defending and defenders are so clearly and deliberately overlooked and ignored usually in favour of the 'glory boys and their wonder goals' alone... 'football idiot' hype is prolific! Even if you have never kicked a football it really is not difficult to work out that defending is anywhere between 80-99% of the game itself and yet everyone will incessantly talk about the only goal scored in the entire game for 99% of the time... speaking as a defensive player/coach it is just such a yawn and worse still... disappointingly ignorant! Even ex-defensive TV pundits will do it knowing that the fans and media have such little interest in anything else... it is also clearly prohibitive in really understanding the game of professional football itself! Many of the truly greatest games of football I've seen have been a monumental draw after 90 minutes of non-stop defensive football from both sides... not losing being just as important as winning a game of football... who'd of guessed?
Brilliant as well as totally rubbish defensive play is quite clearly just as watchable footable as scoring goals/going forward yet you so rarely see any defensive play in football highlights, discussions, shows, Vlog's etc. Relegated to minor mentions and fleeting discussion.
So facile it's irritating... the most important aspect of footbal is the least understood and least watched and least talked about by the vast majority of the fans & media. Having played, managed and then stood or sat next to these fans (parents) at games for the last 56 years it certainly gets very boring listening to so much uninformed nonsense about the game I love!
Crack on Luke... you've already 'nailed it'!
1:46 It was Grzegorz Krychowiak in his prime in Sevilla, chasing Leonel Messi. Former Polish representative, playing as a central defensive midfielder. That's video from La Liga in his prime ruclips.net/video/oU2YtXfBToE/видео.html then he was very good in our national team aswell.
I'm gonna name 5 of the best CBs in the world and I want you to look them up. Jaap Stam, Paolo Maldini, Alessandro Nesta, Franco Baresi, and Rio Ferdinand. These 5 are genuinely the maestro of defending if you ask me. There are some other crazy names as well, but they are the best of the best in my honest opinion.
I don't know how you are recording this, but you shouldnt need to edit that much if you set it right in OBS.
In my opinion the true art is not even have to use slide tackeles and heroic acts
Just stay on your feed and have good fundamentals like positioning and communication with your defence partners
But If you like Videos like this check out "Art Of Goal Line Clearances - Defensive Saves"
Or "5 WAYS TO WIN EVERY TACKLE - HOW TO TACKLE IN FOOTBALL - DEFENDING HACKS" for lil techy view
Great defending is a joy to watch. It isn't flashy but its beautiful. Sort of like grappling in the UFC, some people don't like it but to me its beautiful.
In order to complete your journey in football you had to watch some player that already extinct in today's football... Here are some the list....
Fillipo Inzaghi. Roberto Carlos. Juninho Pernambucano. Oliver Bierhoff. Rodrigo Ceni and Jose Luis chilavert. Dennis Bergkamp etc..
It’s just really sad and shoking that in the entire comments, no one called the name of the great “ELIAS FIGUEROA”
……if you don’t know that name, you just don’t know football history…….go dig deeper into the mainstream names…..
You may be surprised about some “sudakas” players from back in the days….
Keep your training up mate
Football is for everyone, either to take seriously, or to have fun or a bit of both.
Football is life in the UK, you're making us proud getting into the sport and you're more than welcome to visit 🇬🇧🇬🇧🇬🇧
Tackling in football is a tricky thing, it's why some players round and around and act it up. It's a non contact sport but you can tackle someone to the floor as long as your foot touches the ball first and is in your possession. That's why some of the tackles seem harsh but the ref plays on. Cos they touched the ball first before knocking the player down. (Putting it simply)
Oh oh and! The next World Cup is being held in N.America, so get some tickets and go watch :P gonna be fun.
I hope there's a good YooToob vid for you showing some highlights of Paolo Maldini. For a defender to get so many man-of-the-match awards over the 25yrs he played for AC Milan.... well, good luck finding a left back better than him. Ever. :)
Luke, i highly recommend u to watch Brazil x Spain, confederations cup 2013 finals. Spain was the best team back tt that time, but that game from Brazil was the best game i ever watch a national team play. Is just incredible. Clip of 05:20
that's what? 90% of situations toping the speed with tackle from behind...?
see Benfica's António Silva 2022/23 season defendig actions. most of them in front of the atacking players
Some great archive clips, but VAR and 2 yellows=1 red card(OFF),have made the modern football defender's job,so much more difficult!🙄
Greatest two defenders Bobby Moore and Franz Beckenbauer
Clip of RUclips of Bobby Moore v Brazil 1970, will give you an idea of how good he was ( against arguably the best international side ever)
So happy to see you training soccer! I'm from Europe, if u ever step foot here let me know, you gon play with us 5 a side and 8 a side football we'll teach us some more advanced skills🇮🇹💪🏿
Nice reaction, but if you really want to watch one of the most amazing players that ever lived, you should search this vid "Gheorge Hagi, regele din carpati, goals and skills" you don't have to react to this, but if you watch this guy it will change your mind about footbal. He also played for Barcelona and Real Madrid but is underated.
A nice little tidbit for you: The term "Crunching Tackle" is often used in a situation where there's heavy contact between the two players, with an aggressive lunge or slide from the defender. Not the clean type like many are in here, but the ones where you can see the full power behind the actions, airing on the side of aggression rather than accuracy. It's a nice phrase to sprinkle in sparingly when you can really feel the crunch in your bones as one watches it being performed.
I've had the jitters meeting a footballer once, when I ever so briefly met the legend that is Paolo Maldini outside Lerkendal Stadium in my home town, after the Rosenborg v AC Milan match in the CL. What an absolute unit!
If you like good defensive actions I suggest you to watch “Harry Maguire Gangsta Paradise Amazing Goals and Skills”
While slide tackles are cool, it is often discouraged to do one. That's the last resort tackle. Plus I could say most of this are last resort.. the 1st stage of defence is cerebral af. If you want to play defence to do these tackles, think again. Like the words of Paolo Maldini - "If I have to tackle, I made a mistake." The most teamwork needed and that's why defence rarely substituted or changed. I wish someone would compiled offside traps videos. That's the best form of defence.
for defending yeah i recommend italian teams as for which you should check i think Juventus has always had the best defenders check juventus videos with chiellini bonnuci and barzaghli as defenders that was a golden age for defending for juventus
11s in and I'm pausing. Dude appreciates defence; the force is strong boys.. Isn't loved so much and it's easier to practice shooting or passing than tackling - miss a few shots and we just trot after the ball. Miss-time a tackle and we don't usually get 3 more tries to work it out.
10:25:
**…no reaction.**
Roflmao they even showed it twice😂😂😂
Edit: same at 11:04 😂
Guys I dont he understood those two
The scary Italian backline when Maldini, Cannavaro and Nesta were playing together... Who was the last one i forgot... Luliano?
Can you please react to Federco Chiesa, he is a quite young italian juve player who dragged italy to victory in the Euro 2021, now he is just come back from an injury and he has already have 3 assist and 1 gol in 5 or 6 match
8:07 if i remember correctly, this tackle was like last minute world cup 2014 semi final. mascherano was incredibly consistent, and this was probably his standout tackle
Sliding tackles is kinda considered "last ditch" and not something you should do on a regular basis.
Its a very risky move, if you miss the ball, its almost always yellow, and not seldom red.
If you do it inside the penalty box it also often results in penalties.
It mostly used when defenders gets behind and arent as fast as the attacker.
Even if you DO hit the ball, but you tackle with the studs first, it can be given yellow or red cards becouse of the danger. If you hit the ball, then your foot continues to travel to the attackers leg, it can create serious harm.
Generally you want to tackle standing up.
classic Italian defenders, classic English Midfielders,South American forward and a German Goalie
thats the deadliest combo ever
for a few minutes i thought there won't be any Carles Puyol video, but i wasnt disappointed.. i have a feeling you'd enjoy watch him play.. one of the best defenders and captains imo.
Dude, you must react to tactical analysis videos of important and historical matches and teams, I promise you won't regret it. As a coach and as person in love with sports, I know you will really enjoy this kind of video.
I used to play the Footbal at younger age something about tackels my coach told me is if enemy leads the ball he is not in controll of the ball 90% of the time but 10% aka when he touches it if we talk about full sprint so if u wanna do correct tackle it never happens or rarelly when enemy player is touching the ball but when he is not.
I'm in love with defense/game creation. My best position is classic 5 (defensive holding midfielder)
You will love watching some reels from 2004 Milan, that's very beautiful futbol
If one reaches the ball first, makes him a hero, if he touches the leg first, he's a butcher with a yellow or red card, worst case with weeks or months off. It's a matter of a fragment of a second, but it's requirement to keep in mind for every player. Football rules are wierd if you think about it.
wow this is so freaking cool to watch, saw the first your vids, and now seem more exited. welcome to the beautiful game. officially subscribing.
Thought I posted this comment but don't see it. One thing defenders do is study opponents weak points kike which foot they are worse with. A defender is taught to run backwards w a player bearing down on them and to angle their body essentially shepherding the attacker onto their weak foot. In the one play of mbappe vs van dyke you see him force mbappe to his right foot. You see mbappe feint like he is going to get onto his left foot and cross van dyke face but the defender is taught to keep in line w the player, or a step or two ahead, but enough that crossing his face is impossible. Mbappe feints going that way but realizes there is no space and surges w his right foot and then vigil sees him wind up and then throws out his long legs. The imp of height for defenders is obvious in heading situations but the length of leg to stick in and clip the ball away from a running player or sliding to block.a shot when the player winds up is where leg length is really imp
if u want to know best defenders start studiyng italians, 60% of the clip: Maldini Baresi Cannavaro Chiellini Nesta
if you love defence you should watch paolo maldini, nesta, canavarro, philip lahm, puyol, sergio ramos
