The clips at 9:00 is Juninho, Brazilian and Lyon (French club) legend and easily without a doubt the best free kick taker in the history and some people even call him “the man who scores freekicks as easy as penalties” He also helped Lyon win 7 consecutive Ligue 1 titles (2001-2007). They had zero titles prior and zero titles since, shows how much of a beast this guy was.
Their women's team have dominated since, though. They're the Real Madrid of the women's game, though we knocked them out this year, only to lose to Barca in the semis :(
I wrote "UNBELIEVABLY, you are UNDER selling Leicester City and their 5,000/1 achievement to win the World's most prestigious domestic League i.e. The English Premier League. This is the sequence of events. 1/ As you said they got Promoted. 2/Their FIRST season up they were bottom for 90% of the season and were 1/100 to get relegated i.e You put $100 to win $1 but, incredibly, having won 2/27 they won around 7 or 8 games out of the last 10 and stayed up on the final day. The Manager who saved them departed, hastily(under a cloud), and 65-year-old Raiieri(sacked from his 3 previous jobs) so 5,000/1 over the 38 games and you know the rest"
The Zidane headbutt was the last thing he did in football, he retired after that World Cup. In a way it's an iconic way to leave but i think i remember even him saying he regret leaving football and i'm sure he could still have played another 3-4 years at least. The Euro's is the same as the World Cup only for European nations, in the same way North America got the Gold Cup, South America got Copa America, Africa got Africa Cup of Nations and Asia got Asian Cup, all continental tournaments.
No matter the headbutt, Zidane is a GOAT midfielder. Only new people would say he isn't GOATED due to the headbutt. Headbutting Materazzi is a miniscule thing compared to what he has achieved in the game.
Maradona claimed "It was a little with the head of Maradona and a little with the hand of god" - that's where it came from. He also scored a fabulous goal as well so it's the best and worst side of Maradona
Yes, 'the hand of god' is bc of Argentine resentment over the Falklands... he's saying that God intervened to give them justice in the form of that goal, he's not saying that he is god - it's still denying that his own hand was used
@@dylansharkey6040 Ironically, the Falkland Islands are probably the only British territory that we acquired entirely fairly. It has only ever been occupied by British citizens - it was uninihabited before British colonists landed in the early 19th Century - and Argentina's claim is based purely on them being the country closest to it (but not close enough to claim ownership under any recognised form of international law). There's a further irony to the war in 1982 in that the Falklands is a costly territory for us to own, and given the way that British foreign policy was going at the time had the Argentinians not invaded we'd almost certainly have transferred sovereignty to them by now.
@@chrispalmer7893 Thats not true, the british colonists expelled the argentines in 1833. And also, prior to that, spain and france occupied the islands. Argentina´s claim is solid and legitimate, thats why the UN still lists the islands as a colony disputed by the UK and Argentina.
@@chrispalmer7893 It was full of Argentine fishermen, the British got there expelled them all and started to live there. It was never fair, Las Malvinas son Argentinas!
Germany did go on to win that WC after beating Brazil. They beat Argentina 1-0 in the final. I remember hearing there were literal riots in Brazil after that semi final
Yes and if that wasn't enough, they then tried to redeem themselves by at least getting third place against Holland (who's coach had said it was such a pointless match that they just wanted to go home after the defeat by Argentina). Brazil lost that game as well. Humiliation extended. The backstory of the Brazilian defeat at home is another famous story of how Uruguay defeated Brazil in the final of the 1950 world cup when Brazil was the overwhelming favorite.
@@n3xxuswt the beauty of futbol turning a villain (at least from the argentina side) to a friend, he posted a video with his son cheering when we finally won the world cup again, it was so heart warming to see :')
Germany won the 2014 world cup by obviously defeating Brazil 7-1 in semis and Argentina in Final 1-0 This was Prime Messi vs Prime Germany a Great Intense match but Germany Prevailed At the end even though Argentina created more chances (easy chances to score). Argentina,Brazil, Germany and Italy are big deal if you defeat them in the latter stage of WC ,it's massive for anyone's history
Roberto Carlos would practice that free kick for ages in training and tried it in other matches and it would go nowhere near the goal. That one time he managed it was just so magical that i dont think sports science has explained it to this day
it were actually a lot of different random things like wind, the way he hit the ball, air pressure etc that made this goal possible. probably the only real 1 in a million moment
Roberto Carlos admitted recently that the wind massively took it and it was likely going wide otherwise. Still though we have seen him put some crazy curl on the ball in games so I'm sure the pace he put on helped massively
its crazy watching you explore football man. Ive been watching your videos from the start. You've learned so much about the sport and you've helped me learn as well. your takes are so refreshing man gg
It's great that Corey reacted and saw this video. This is arguably the best video on the internet that articulates well enough the passion and the love for the game.
I love hearing from everyone and learning so much from this community. Thank you all for bringing me along for the ride! Football community = the best community
The headbutt vs Materazzi made him more of a hero to me! He was known for playing crazy, dirty and injuring players, his nickname was "The killer". And he said something about Zidane's mother right after she passed. So he snapped. But the statement; "Don't talk shit about my mom." Respect. Edit: You should do a Materazzi highlight video, there are a lot of them.
12:00 Crucial part of that goal is that just 4 years earlier England/UK were at war against Argentina for Falklands Islands very near coast of Argentina and pretty far from UK but anyhow due to technological superiority and bigger range and number of British warships, UK won that war with ease so that goal had huge symbolism in Argentina and throughout the World as symbol of victory of "third world" country against British imperialism...
I am so glad you guys reacted to this video. It is the One. The One that among Americans creates curiosity, if not fandom, for soccer eventually transcending RUclips, to live watching games on tv, to going to games in person. Amazing intro, to build-up of highlights, music bed, having the best/enthusiastic play-by-play commentary.
I love to see Americans hyped up about football.. you should watch MLS too, it needs your support so the sport can grow more in your country. As an European I watch a lot of MLS in the summer when there is no European football and I think its getting better and better with every season.
The USL too! There's a good chance that if your US city doesn't have an MLS team, it has a USL team. It's exciting that we have a viable 2nd league, and even 3rd and 4th tier leagues. Many of the teams have their own academies too. It's obviously a lower level of play than the MLS but even some recently popular players like Aaronson, Adams, Steffen, Turner, etc are all ex-USL players. And a lot of the team at the U-20 world cup right now are on or used to be on a USL team. A USL team even made it to the US Open Cup final last year (our FA Cup, basically). Football does seem to be growing a lot here and I hope it keeps on growing.
13:20 Claudio Ranieri is not a "random coach" he almost led AS Roma to a legendary title in 2010 as well, he also did a miracle by taking Cagliari from serie c to serie a
@@GNMbg but defenitely not a random coach, had coached Chelsea before Mourinho as well. Yes he was not Guardiola but he was seen as a good manager. He is still a good manager.
The Worldcup 2014 was so great, i am german and was 10 at that time but I still remember everything because it was such a great time. From the quarter finals against France with a close 1:0, to the semi finals against brasil and then to top it of a close overtime 1:0 win against Argentina. I still remember running around my street screeming and partying with the whole neighbourhood. One of the best memorys I have to this day.
7:55 "Look at the chest hair baby!" That's Ryan Giggs of Manchester United scoring the winner in extra time in the '98/'99 FA Cup Semi Finals after ghosting pass the entire Arsenal defense. Giggs was one of the rare individuals who are called one-club man. He was a prodigy in the Manchester United youth team and signed his first profession contract with the club on his 17th birthday in 1990. He was known for his pace in his younger days to his prime. He's played in 24 seasons for Man United making a club record of 963 appearances and scoring a total of 168 goals. He has never been sent-off throughout his career at Manchester United. He retired as a player in 2014 at the age of 40.
To curve the ball you need to hit it on the right spot with the right force but the thing is, that spot and force changes depending on the distance the ball needs to travel and the surface on which it needs to travel (air or grass). You also need to compensate for wind and density/humidity of the pitch. It’s great to see Americans finally understanding football. There’s no American sport that requires the same level of sheer skill, coordination, speed and endurance in one package: - You need Track & Field levels of sprinting speed. - The balance and strength of a gymnast. - the coordination skills of a circus juggler. - the endurance of a triathlete. The average pro player runs 90 minutes non stop, with just a 15 minute break at half time, covering 7 miles of running per game.
Of course Germany won the 2014 World Cup, actually in that same video you can see Götze´s genius goal against Argentina in the final. All in all I notice a bit of a bias against (or at least some indifference towards) the German clubs and national team. They are HUGE in football, Germany is after Brazil the greatest footballing nation on Earth, and Bayern Munich is the only club that can see Real Madrid at eye level.
Absolutely, pound for pound I think Germany is actually the more successful team (or maybe Brazils equal). If you give points to the teams based on how far they progress in the world cup Germany is consistently in the quarter finals and up (well last two world cups may have changed my argument)
@@23GreyFox he suffered from a lungdisease and never reached his prime again. He was considered as the next messi until this happened. But he is still one of the german goats because of this goal in the final against brasil. Much love for Götze ❤
The thing that makes the Roberto Carlos freekick so amazing is that he shoots with his leftfoot so he's basically hitting the ball with the outside of his foot. It would have been an amazing freekick shot with the inside of his foot from that distance. An outside curve like that...just unreal..he's actually done another goal like that but in full speed from the cornerflag..
yeah, he was a beast (and that as a left wing defender), you should react to "Roberto Carlos Was an Absolute Monster" to see how versatile he truly was
I'm from England and I still consider Maradonna if God came down to play football it was him despite the handball, hence it was called the hand of God. goal of the century is unmatched in its magnitude world cup quarter final.
Dude, amazing to see how you got deep into this unique sport. You can only understand football when you feel football and it is much more passion than only entertaining... Keep it up man !
18:48 another context for the miracle of Istanbul. Liverpool (red) was 0-3 down by Milan (white). To put into perspective, how hard or how improbable to come back from 3 goals in a half is quite similar to Patriots 3-28 Falcons in Super Bowl 2017.
19:16 Right before this match, the press was mocking Zidane for being too old for the sport and he was near retirment. He grabbed the ball and gave Brazil a 90 minute lesson on how to play football. It gets overshadowed by the headbutt in the final, but he schooled the World Champions at the time.
Huge final match day in Germany this weekend. Borussia Dortmund is 2 points ahead of Bayern Munich going into the final match. If they manage to get the win against Mainz then they will win their first Bundesliga title since 2011/12 and snap a 10 year run of dominance from Bayern Munich. But with a draw or loss and a Bayern win they lose out on their best chance to get a title.
7:49 There was a sports science show here on youtube that did tests with motion capture, skill tests, how they moved there body and so on to break down and show why some players are as good as they are and they did 1 with Ronaldo. Before they started they hade him stand in 1 of those machines that scans your entire body and shows your bones, muscles, fat% and so on. From that scan it showed that Ronaldo hade 5% less body fat then a supermodel.
Oliver Kahn was (one of) the best goalkeeper(s) in the late 90s/early 2000s. There are some great compilations on YT about him you could react to. In general, you should look into german football some more. Germany is one of the biggest football countries in the world. Worth a look.
The good spurs moment you guys talked about might be the only moment i nearly cried from football. Because they won they kicked ajax out of the champion league in the semi finals. Ajax was massive underdog that entire tournament and were playing insanely beautiful attacking football. They were on the miracle run beating real madrid and juventus with a young, fearless team. And then spurs came back from a 2-0 deficit and scored the final goal in the last minute in order to win Edit: In case you hadnt noticed I was a ajax fan, so it werent tears of joy xD
As a spurs fan, I apologise for that night. Whilst it was pain for you, alternatively it was one of the best nights of my life. Massive respect to you guys, you deserved to go all the way with the team and manager you had, but Lucas Moura had different plans 😅
To give some context the goal by Aguero 10:22 happened in the injury time to win Man City for their title the final score is 3-2 for City with 2 goals including this goal happen in injury time. They heroically pull back 2 deficit goals and win the title. At first people think they bottle it because after 90 minutes the score is 2-1 for QPR (the opponent). then 2 goals by Dzeko (92') and Aguero (94") seal them the Premier league title If they somehow make Lewandowski movie, I already know what the OST for that movie. It is the one from Black Eyed peas. I got a feeling that tonight gonna be a good good night lol
The fun thing about the coach who got greece to win the euro - Otto Rehhagel - he won the german league 1998 with Kaiserslautern which just got promoted to the first league, just like Leicester.
19:20 you should look into the story of Ferenc Puskas, politics kind of ruined his career but he was one of the most athletic and if he didn't stopped playing football earlier than expected he might could have still played at 50, to give a hint on how good he was, there's a goal of the season award named after him ; if you want Raymar football made a video about him
One thing you need to look at is Goalkeepers of the 1980's. They used to catch the ball a lot more than Goalkeepers of today whereas they now generally tip the ball off to the side. You'll be amazed. Look up Bruce Grobbelaar (Liverpools Goalkeeper).
2:39 so to put some contexts Marco Materazzi ( the one who got head butted) keep pulling Zidane's on the game So Materazzi didn't just herrass his mother but also his little sister So here what they were talking ( not exact word for word ) Zidane: if you want my shirt I can give you after the game Materazzi: nope, I want your sister Then Zidane snapped
17:30 Ronaldinho is the GOAT. For the peps who saw him live, he was the most fun and the last of his gen. Money came in and focus shifted to just score the goals. The last inspired are Zlatan and CR7 when they are young, then there is a flatline. No Player, plays with the ball like Ronadinho did. You can check all these players on yt and compare to now. If you want a show, go back in time. If you want machines, watch contemporary
22:15 Another thing to point out is that argentina (brazil's biggest rival) reached the final of the WC2014 and could've won the tournament in brazil's home. That would have been the biggest humilliation in their history, even more than losing 7-1 against germany at home. Luckily for them (sadly for me and all argentinians) argentina lost that final against germany. You may also enjoy reacting to different derbies and international rivalries.
I think you should look up German football later on. While it gets a lot of shit for being a so called "Farmer's League", the system is interesting and there are certain unforgettable moments like Bayern and BVB meeting each other in 2013 at the CL final, Bayern destroying basically every club in sight in 2019/2020, BVB vs Real Madrid in the 2012/2013 CL and Lewandowski's unforgettable performance in it, etc.
It's funny talking about the 2014 World Cup, how Germany beat Brazil 7-1, I remember watching that whole match, and that was before I became a fan of the sport, and I was freaking out like I couldn't fathom at the time a team losing by a score like that 😂
High man, I saw some of your videos and thats great to see how enthusiast you are about discovering this sport :) I can see that you learned a lot since your first watch of this video but i may help you get some of the still missing moments, so here it is some context about what you are missing. 1:40 about who is the goat, this is hard to tell because this is totally different era. If I may try some comparison, Pele is like Chamberlain in NBA. Every one knows he did amazing stuffs (won 3 world cups !!! scored about 1200 goals in career !!!) but no one really saw him played and there is few images remaining 2:47 "really important game" is an euphemism as he got a red card during the 2006 world cup final, while his team was definitively in better shape than Itally, leading France to loose on penalties while we was the best penalty shooter of the team. 3:16 Khan was one of the best goalkeeper that ever played. He could arguely be in top 10 ever, he finished 3rd on Ballon d'or ranking (MVP trophee among all player on the planet) on 2001 and 2002. That's pretty rare for a goalkeeper. In fact only one has won the Ballon d'or (Yashin in 1963), and only 5 other goalkeepers has been on podium since its creation (1956) including Buffon and Neuer... So yeah long story short he is a legend 3:43 Euro 2000 final is an iconic story in football. Italy was winning 1-0 and they got the most impressive defense of history. They got some name you may have heard about : Maldini, Nesta, Cannavaro, ... All are legendary defenders. Only conceeded 2 goals before the final. So every one was expected them to easily sit on their advantage. Wiltord score the equalizer at the 90+4th minutes. There is a story telling that Italy bench was already opening bottles of champagne to celebrate. And then both team go to overtime, but for this competition FIFA (actually this is UEFA because its a european competition but lets keep it simple and say it was FIFA) had decided to add a new rules in overtime : golden goal. The idea is simple enough, if you score you directly win. If no one score during 30 minutes overtime is over and you go to penalty kicks as always. And so Trezeguet score this amazing horizontal volley and France won the Euro. Referring to the story I told before, in France we made a joke : Do you know how to reseal a bottle of champagne ? Ask Italians. 6:20 Netherlands had lost against Spain in World Cup final 2010 (the winner goal of Iniesta is on the begining of the video), and meet them in group stage on the next World Cup in 2014. They won 5-1 against the World Cup defending champions, who beat them in final. That is a massive upset 7:25 He definitely pushed him. But that's allowed in football, we call that shoulder against shoulder. Ok in that example that's more the arm than shoulders but this is totally inside the limits of what is allowed. Especially in England where referee are more open to physical plays. 7:59 Bale scored this bicycle in the Champions League 2018 final. That's by far the most important competition in club football, the final is the equivalent of superball. So this is not only an impressive bicycle kick, but one scored in the most important game of the year. 8:08 Inter Milan won the champion's league in 2010 thanks to this goal of Diego Milito in final. The coach was Jose Mourinho and his team was playing what we could call "anti-football", most focus on perfect positioning, great defending, fight spirit and devastating counter attack. They beat very huge team at the times as Barcelona, Bayern Munich or Chelsea. This is Jose Mourinho masterclass ! 9:02 The player is Juninho, an amazing Brazilian who played for Lyon in France. He is known to be one of (if not THE) best free kick shooter. He could score from every position, like in the side or from more than 40 yards far. He scored 77 free kicks in his carrer, for example Messi scored 63, Beckham 65, C Ronaldo 60... If I may try an other NBA comparison his free kicks was like Lillard logo threes ... cheated ! 10:00 This free kicks allow England to qualify for 2002 world cup and was shot in the last second of the game. A very clutch moment ! 10:30 The defender is Boateng, known to be one of the best defender at the time. A very iconic moment ! 11:10 That's true, the Juventus stadium stand up to congrats C Ronaldo after this amazing goal, while Juventus was loosing in Champion's League quarter final. That's very rare and touched Ronaldo so much that he signed for Juventus the year after. 13:45 Well done to talk about the difficulty of the control. Most of neophytes doesn't see that. Just go on field, throw the ball very high and try to make it glue to your feet. You will see how those guys are aliens ! 17:25 Ronaldinho didn't had so many injuries but he liked the life ... A lot of party ... he was even in prison for a few months (and won a football tournament there). Let's say he didn't had a lifestyle compatible with high level, especially after winning the 2005 Ballon d'or. But still he played for 17 years and never stop entertainment. He was so cool to watch, able to score amazing goal, doing physical impossible tricks, ... In 2005 Barcelona won the classico 0-3 in Madrid and it was his masterpiece, so much that Real Madrid fans stand up (as I said this is pretty rare, especially between rivals clubs like Barcelona and Madrid) 17:50 Zidane score this horizontal volley in Champions League 2002 final. This is the game winner goal. 19:16 Puskas was an amazing scorer, maybe the best of all time. That's hard to say because he played a long time ago but he but he definitely left his mark on the game as there is a trophee each year given to the most beautiful goal of the year, named after his name. 19:20 Zidane 2006 world cup is just legendary. You already spoke about his red card in final, but the man was 34 years, had already took his retreat from clubs and every one (especially Spains) was saying that he was too old. At the end he did several masterclass, for example in this game against an amazing brazil with Roberto Carlos, Robinho, Kaka, Juninho, Ronaldo, Ronaldinho, Cafu, Adriano, ... Brazil got 4 Ballon d'or in their team and still Zidane was the most "brazilian" (understanding skilled, impressive, entertaining) player in the field. 20:05 The player is Lillian Thuram, a French right wing defender. He scored 13 goals in his 18 years club career. He played 142 games for France and scored only 2 goals, in the same game, against Croatia in 1998 during the World Cup semi final, allowing France to win 2-1 and go to the final. Such a funny story like only football can offer. 24:20 This is the 1998 world cup final. In one side you got Brazil, 4th time world cup winner at the time, defending champion and probably the best world team of the era (they won in 1994, go to final in 1998, won in 2002). On the other side you got France who didn't won any world cup before ... And the result is 3-0 for France, who was the host team, with 2 headers goals of Zidane. An amazing uppset and one moment all French will remember for ever. 24:30 20 years later France won his second world cup with Mbappe and Pogba. Fun fact the France coach in 2018 (and still today) is Deschamps who was captain of the 1998 team. He also was the captain of Marseille in 1993, the only French club who has ever won the champions league. He also was the coach of Monaco in 2004 when they lost in Champion's league final, being only one of the 3 French club to reach the final. He was not a very entertaining player, more defensive middfield, but he definitively is one of the most important man in France football history prooving that highlights are not the more important in sports ! 24:45 The commentary is the French guy Thierry Roland, now passed away. He says, during the 1998 France title : "I think after seeing that, we can die quietly. I mean as late as possible but we can." Very strong words that eco with the start of the video. Rest in peace Thierry.
The physics behind the ball spinning is the same like at pool or baseball. You hit the ball of centre while kicking it to give it a spin and the Magnus Effect then let's the ball fly a curve. You have to hit the ball at the bottom left continuing the shot movement to the right when you want to shoot a left turning freekick over the defending wall.
This was my go to move on the wings as a wing defender. Always tracking back ti ball, around the touch line side like I would collect and go inside then right as the other team player changed to intercept I would cruyff to the outside. That was also the tip to my winger to break to corner and I would launch a curling deep pass down the touch line
As a german I just wanted to add that Kahn is a legend of 90s football at least. I'm not sure if he compares to Beckenbauer, but he's definitely somewhere up there as one of the best goalkeepers of his time, only to be (in my opinion) topped by Manuel Neuer who is the last goalkeeper I watched on the german national team. Google says he has been replaced by Marc Andre ter Stegen, who I don't really know though. I remember watching the game where Germany beat Brazil 7:1 - it was unbelievable. I just remember sitting there with a friend in disbelief, especially because we were nervous about Brazil, having soccer legends in their team. Unfortunately I think this video leaves out lots of german goals. I think the goal Götze scored when they won the World Cup only was shown a fraction of a second. The game was unbelievably nerve-wrecking.... Of course Messi is great, but it's boring only to see him all the time when there have been other great football players, especially from Germany. Bastian Schweinsteiger (who famously got badly injured in a final and continued to play anyway) was only shown a second, Thomas Müller was left out basically entirely and Toni Kroos who is very respected and plays fantastic football in Spain was nowhere to be seen. PS: You really should react to Manuel Neuer's greatest goalkeeps or something, that'll be great 😀 PPS: Actually there are a lot of those videos to find on youtube, just checked.
Cheers from Brazil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷 You kissed Garrincha, just before Puskas. Garrincha the greatest dribbler ever ! Viva o dragão rubro-negro. Saudações do Atlético Goianiense
Not only did Germany humiliate Brazil 7-1 in semis, at half-time their coach told them to cool it with the goals. And Miroslav Klose overtook (brazilian striker) Ronaldos world cup goal record. It was a good day for Germany, a bad day for Brazil. Even ended up winning the world cup in the finale, but have paid a high price in the world cups since.
13:03 This is not quite right , the season they got promoted, they escaped relegation on the last day, the season AFTER they were 5000-1 to win the Prem and won it regarding he Coach the first prem season they had Pearson who did well to keep them up, they sacked him and appointed Ranieri, who was not "rando"/"random" he was one of the best coaches in Europe and it was a shock that Leicester got such a highly rated coach and he won the league the season after, and then the season after that...was sacked. The whole 3 years was madness
I personally think the "AGUEROOOOOOO!!!!!" goal is one of the most astonishing finishes to a season that I have seen. That goal gave Manchester City, its first Premier League Title. The team prior to that moment had been known as a hard luck team (until they got purchased by a Persian Gulf Oil State). City was in a neck and neck race with its cross town rival Manchester United for the Championship. City had to win to claim the championship. The team City was facing, Queens Park Rangers had a significant number of Man City castoffs who had something to prove against their old team, and were also fighting to avoid relegation. To further increase the drama, Man City were down 2-1 as the game went into stoppage time. City scored two goals to win the game in stoppage time, which included Aguero's goal in the closing moments of the match.
Luke, I have to apologize about the "Eye Roll" comment (which I have removed) - I have seen other videos where when the Aguero Goal is mentioned produces some measure of consternation and derision (likely from Man United Fans).
One of the best teams ever, Barcelona. In their hayday nobody could touch them. If your going to Barcelona, a visit to Camp Neu is a must. Take a tour and see the huge stadium and trophy room, amazing. If the game is in Barcelona, then your in for a treat. Because the whole city becomes football mad, every phone i-pad, cafe, taxi rank , all watch the match from outside the stadium (those who could not get tickets) Total take over of the city! Enjoy! I'm not Spanish just a Brit who has been to Barcelona a few times.
What's make Zinédine Zidane really unique imho is that after being a really great player he became a amazing coach. Winning 3 UEFA Champions League in a row managing Real Madrid.
I would say you already know more about football than 90% of football fans. Most people know alot about their club and nothing else. Also knowing the year thinhgs happened is top notch. I would definatly watch a video about Johan Cruyff. He is the player that Barcelona has built their style around. He is also one of the few players that has a dribble named after him. Juninho is considered the best freekick taker of all time and could be good to watch aswell. Actually, watching a video with different dribbles/shots/passes named after players would be cool, like the Panenka.
20:12 you guys gotta watch Neymar's comeback, for barcelona, in this game. best individual performance in football history and it wasnt even by messi. Barcelona vs PSG Champions league
Love the videos as always Luke, but I feel like you’re still missing so much context from these moments. Like the Gotze World Cup final goal, Bales bicycle kick in the champions league final, Beckhams free kick in the dying seconds to take England through to the euros etc etc
I was at that England game when we qualified for Japan....it was just as good watching the Germans fall to their knees on the big screen at old Trafford when they realised England scored in the last minute.....Maradonna is the GOAT.....wasn't surrounded by all the greatest players in the world all his career....Napoli had never won anything until he signed
When it comes to England vs Argentina at the 1986 World Cup in Mexico, this is 4 years after Argentina had invaded the Falkland Islands (Las Malvinas) and Britain had taken them back, and then those 2 goals from Maradona, one a wonder dribble, the other the Hand Of God. Argentina won that World Cup but England's Gary Lineker won the Golden Boot that year. Watching videos like this shows you how good the NFL has always been at its media, realistically the reason so many moments before 1992 are international moments in these videos is that FIFA started to exert control over it's TV rights from 1974 and the national leagues left control with the broadcasters so the footage was only ever meant for live coverage. La Liga and the Premier League really only got on top of this in the late 90's with the other top flight leagues following. Now you know the Romance how about some film reacts Victory (1981) featuring Pele, Ossie Ardiles, Bobby Moore would seem a good place to start WWII Allied War prisoners plan an escape in Paris against the German national team, Sly Stallone is the Allied teams keeper and Michael Caine is the Coach/Captain. Goal (2005) and Fever Pitch (1997) are two other easy places to start whilst Mike Bassett: England Manager (2001) is an absolute farce.
this video is so eurocentric, brazil won 5 world cups but they only showed when they got whooped and had me watching a fcking fa cup as one of the "greatest moments of football"
( I’m brazilian ) I was 10 years old back in 2014 and see Brasil lose by 6 goals was painful… I can’t put in words the way we ( brazilians ) felt after that match…. I literally cried a river lol
As a German it was a night of total disbelief I have to say. We had two very close and taxing matches against Algeria and France prior so we expected Brazil to be favorits, especially as host nation. After even Khedira and Kroos scored for us we knew it would become a magic night. 😅 But don't worry, we felt the same after losing on home ground to Italy in the semis 2006. 🥲
Did my man see the Newcastle game? We did it! Champions league football next season. I was up nearly all night watching all the videos come in from inside and outside the stadium as the city went mental. Lots of sore heads around today 🤣 The Toon Review, Newcastle Fans TV, Adam Pearson and Magpie Channel TV all have great videos on the celebrations. Also look out for the massive Tifo spread around the stadium before the game, I know y'all enjoying those.
If ever fans deserved success it is Newcastle. They used to take thousands to the other end of the Country for Away games 50 years ago and in lower divisions.
@@jayk9662 We're so impressed with the man, it's clear why him and his team achieved everything they did at Bournemouth. the preparation, development, communication with the press and supporters is all top draw and you can see him constantly learning and adapting himself as well as the passion he has for the club already. I hope he's here for decades.
1:40 Pele is the original Great one of football Maradonna was a legend in his own right and so is Messi maybe even more so considering the game is Much bigger now (that's what some people say but I don't like looking at it like that) .. .and as a true Croatian fan I do have to mention Eduardo DaSilva AKA Dudu One of the most talented people Croatian football team ever saw and that tackle that happened to him was pure savagery and the idiot who tackled him should have gone to prison for it
22:36 Hey, to be fair to the Brazilians, Germany has the most wins or tied with them, forgot to check ;) Either way, the German machine is always haunting to meet, as I'm sure many nations feel. When they are in sync, nobody can tackle them. It is scary.
You missed Johan Cruyff when you guys where talking about the goats, might not be the GOAT but certainly is a man who also made great impact on the sport. Would like to see you react to him if you haven’t already.
A lot of these require context and prior knowledge of the events to get the full impact. The ones where it's your own team or a legend you respected it just hits different
If search for the goat.. Watching all the old footage ov Luis Nazario de lima.. Or Ronaldo fenomeno R9... I've played football for 25years... I can assure you he is the greatest have walk on the field... Belive me (I'm Juventus fan)... But despite evryone saing Messi or Pele or Maradona.... Ronaldo was an E.T .... I've played in low series in Italy for long time.... And wen I've a opportunity I go ever ever to stadium 🏟️.... In the 90s.... Watching him, Baggio Totti Vanbasten Gullit and only one time Maradona!!!!!!! But R9 was out of this world!!!! Greetings from Italy an Italian former mountain trooper Alpini Italia 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹
Love you guys!! My Cowboy Jersey has (94 WARE) so nice to finally see americans respecting football, I love American culture for 40 years like most of England and Bristol, the City I live in. And probably could give a lot of Americans a run for their money on my NBA and NFL knowlege and it kinda HURTS to see some of my favorite Americns disrespecting football over the last 40 years until recently. But now you are starting to see why it's the best game on the planet. FYI Cory to be a true football fan you have to say Jordan is the GOAT, It's only a debate in the States not in Europe!! Lebron who I love and he owes some of my team Liverpool FC is like Ronaldo. Jordan is Messi and Ronaldo combined. Trust me in Europe Jordan is the guy he means more to us across the pond for many different reasons, more than just Basketball. YNWA
The clips at 9:00 is Juninho, Brazilian and Lyon (French club) legend and easily without a doubt the best free kick taker in the history and some people even call him “the man who scores freekicks as easy as penalties”
He also helped Lyon win 7 consecutive Ligue 1 titles (2001-2007). They had zero titles prior and zero titles since, shows how much of a beast this guy was.
Mr. 50/50. Pernambucano is the freekick goat.
Their women's team have dominated since, though. They're the Real Madrid of the women's game, though we knocked them out this year, only to lose to Barca in the semis :(
Easily the best free kick taker ever
Juninho paulista clear. UTFB 🔴⚪
Leicester almost did get relegated the year they came up! it was the year after they won the premier league
Getting relegated this year though i recon.
@@whereweregoingwedontneedroads yeah the dream is over 😂
@@ozzythemenace I think the dream was a hell of a good one tho😂prem and fa cup considering there size I think most fans would take that in a heartbeat

Yes, 'the hand of god' is bc of Argentine resentment over the Falklands... he's saying that God intervened to give them justice in the form of that goal, he's not saying that he is god - it's still denying that his own hand was used
The england players were scared of him. Hodge could have easily clipped his heels and it would never have happened, amazing goal though.
The backstory of the Brazilian defeat at home is another famous story of how Uruguay defeated Brazil in the final of the 1950 world cup when Brazil was the overwhelming favorite.
the goal from Götze is also in the video
@@n3xxuswt the beauty of futbol turning a villain (at least from the argentina side) to a friend, he posted a video with his son cheering when we finally won the world cup again, it was so heart warming to see :')
Germany won the 2014 world cup by obviously defeating Brazil 7-1 in semis and Argentina in Final 1-0
This was Prime Messi vs Prime Germany a Great Intense match but Germany Prevailed At the end even though Argentina created more chances (easy chances to score).
Scored in a friendly. That didn't matter.
@@neilgayleard3842 it is still a great goal, stop being a grouch what are you french or something?
I’m French and we love that goal how not to, you have to respect that magic !!!
Thanks!
Thank you 🙏
The headbutt vs Materazzi made him more of a hero to me!
It's at least crazy and entertaining doesn't have to be top league. Just fun to watch
@@pfang32 it really is
The USL too!
@@cacahuate505facts, it’s awesome having a USL team close to home
13:20 Claudio Ranieri is not a "random coach" he almost led AS Roma to a legendary title in 2010 as well, he also did a miracle by taking Cagliari from serie c to serie a
but he never achieved anything significant in his career up to that point
@@GNMbg but defenitely not a random coach, had coached Chelsea before Mourinho as well. Yes he was not Guardiola but he was seen as a good manager. He is still a good manager.
The Worldcup 2014 was so great, i am german and was 10 at that time but I still remember everything because it was such a great time. From the quarter finals against France with a close 1:0, to the semi finals against brasil and then to top it of a close overtime 1:0 win against Argentina. I still remember running around my street screeming and partying with the whole neighbourhood. One of the best memorys I have to this day.
Lovely that you understand the context behind these moments to explain to newcomers ❤
He retired as a player in 2014 at the age of 40.
i really respect you comiong back to this video to appreciate a lot of these moments ... much love from germany
There’s no American sport that requires the same level of sheer skill, coordination, speed and endurance in one package:
- You need Track & Field levels of sprinting speed.
@@lperea21 even so, their stats are incredible, more than 1/3 of all finals and more than half of all semis ever played include Germany
What happened to Gotzë is actually heartbreaking.
@@dr.disappointment8400 What did happen?
@@23GreyFox he suffered from a lungdisease and never reached his prime again. He was considered as the next messi until this happened. But he is still one of the german goats because of this goal in the final against brasil. Much love for Götze ❤
The thing that makes the Roberto Carlos freekick so amazing is that he shoots with his leftfoot so he's basically hitting the ball with the outside of his foot. It would have been an amazing freekick shot with the inside of his foot from that distance. An outside curve like that...just unreal..he's actually done another goal like that but in full speed from the cornerflag..
yeah, he was a beast (and that as a left wing defender), you should react to "Roberto Carlos Was an Absolute Monster" to see how versatile he truly was
16:04 Maradona was actually playing professional and shredding the argentine league at 15 years old 😅
I thought the same when he said that too
I'm from England and I still consider Maradonna if God came down to play football it was him despite the handball, hence it was called the hand of God. goal of the century is unmatched in its magnitude world cup quarter final.
Messi goes beyond that, he doesn't just predict your move before you make it. He will provoke or manipulate your movements to his benefit!
"Corner taken quickly... ORIGI!!!!!!"
Your knowledge has come on soooooo much man, very impressive
Amazing to see how much you have learned about football in such a short period of time......incredible.
Really good reaction dudes. Loving your journey
Yea Germany ended up winning that World Cup in 2014, there was a clip earlier where Mario Götze scored against Argentina that was in the final
19:16
Right before this match, the press was mocking Zidane for being too old for the sport and he was near retirment.
He grabbed the ball and gave Brazil a 90 minute lesson on how to play football.
It gets overshadowed by the headbutt in the final, but he schooled the World Champions at the time.
The difference between this and the original is shocking. Your journey has been a privilege to watch.
Shameless plug: The Bundesliga final day this Sunday (May 28th) is streaming on ESPN+. The tension will be unbelievable.
And then spurs came back from a 2-0 deficit and scored the final goal in the last minute in order to win
Edit: In case you hadnt noticed I was a ajax fan, so it werent tears of joy xD
As a spurs fan, I apologise for that night. Whilst it was pain for you, alternatively it was one of the best nights of my life. Massive respect to you guys, you deserved to go all the way with the team and manager you had, but Lucas Moura had different plans 😅
Luke its crazy to think here you are explaining football as if you were always a fan. You are one of us now.
Puskas is a legend, like the best goal award of the year is named after him as Puskas Awards.
To give some context the goal by Aguero 10:22 happened in the injury time to win Man City for their title the final score is 3-2 for City with 2 goals including this goal happen in injury time. They heroically pull back 2 deficit goals and win the title. At first people think they bottle it because after 90 minutes the score is 2-1 for QPR (the opponent). then 2 goals by Dzeko (92') and Aguero (94") seal them the Premier league title
If they somehow make Lewandowski movie, I already know what the OST for that movie. It is the one from Black Eyed peas. I got a feeling that tonight gonna be a good good night lol
Zidane might be goated? He’ll forever be my goat!! I’m not french and I’ve never supported a team he’s played for but he made football so easy!
The fun thing about the coach who got greece to win the euro - Otto Rehhagel - he won the german league 1998 with Kaiserslautern which just got promoted to the first league, just like Leicester.
Fun fact ''the beautiful game " was first coined by Pele
19:20 you should look into the story of Ferenc Puskas, politics kind of ruined his career but he was one of the most athletic and if he didn't stopped playing football earlier than expected he might could have still played at 50, to give a hint on how good he was, there's a goal of the season award named after him ; if you want Raymar football made a video about him
24:10 "Corner taken quickly, Origiiiii!!"
One thing you need to look at is Goalkeepers of the 1980's. They used to catch the ball a lot more than Goalkeepers of today whereas they now generally tip the ball off to the side. You'll be amazed. Look up Bruce Grobbelaar (Liverpools Goalkeeper).
2:39 so to put some contexts
Marco Materazzi ( the one who got head butted) keep pulling Zidane's on the game
So Materazzi didn't just herrass his mother but also his little sister
So here what they were talking ( not exact word for word )
Zidane: if you want my shirt I can give you after the game
Materazzi: nope, I want your sister
Then Zidane snapped
It's funny talking about the 2014 World Cup, how Germany beat Brazil 7-1, I remember watching that whole match, and that was before I became a fan of the sport, and I was freaking out like I couldn't fathom at the time a team losing by a score like that 😂
IIRC, Neymar was injured and their other star player wasn't having a great game either. They utterly crumbled after the second goal.
Now imagine being humiliated like that in front of the home crowd? I haven't recovered from that day until now. It's a terrible memory x.x
Impressed how you have learnt alot! Good work lad! Also 🌳 are staying up 😊
Dude knows more than me all of a sudden 😂
High man, I saw some of your videos and thats great to see how enthusiast you are about discovering this sport :)
I can see that you learned a lot since your first watch of this video but i may help you get some of the still missing moments, so here it is some context about what you are missing.
1:40 about who is the goat, this is hard to tell because this is totally different era. If I may try some comparison, Pele is like Chamberlain in NBA. Every one knows he did amazing stuffs (won 3 world cups !!! scored about 1200 goals in career !!!) but no one really saw him played and there is few images remaining
2:47 "really important game" is an euphemism as he got a red card during the 2006 world cup final, while his team was definitively in better shape than Itally, leading France to loose on penalties while we was the best penalty shooter of the team.
So yeah long story short he is a legend
3:43 Euro 2000 final is an iconic story in football.
That is a massive upset
7:25 He definitely pushed him.
In 2005 Barcelona won the classico 0-3 in Madrid and it was his masterpiece, so much that Real Madrid fans stand up (as I said this is pretty rare, especially between rivals clubs like Barcelona and Madrid)
17:50 Zidane score this horizontal volley in Champions League 2002 final.
10:25 This is the most Iconic match in premier league history. Agueroooooo 📢📢
React to Johan Cruyff pls, one of if not the most influential figures in the history of the sport.
This one is long overdue
@@lukessportsacademy don´t forget his 0-8 defeat against Bayern on his farewell match, big story behind it too
This was my go to move on the wings as a wing defender. Always tracking back ti ball, around the touch line side like I would collect and go inside then right as the other team player changed to intercept I would cruyff to the outside. That was also the tip to my winger to break to corner and I would launch a curling deep pass down the touch line
7:15 Neymar is always gonna be remembered for that rolling shit he pulled
If you just knew how hard it is to do what Berkamp did and scored, that was the GOAT move
24:46 yes Germany won 2014 World Cup :)
The WORLD cup trophy is solid gold
19:28 Just the Flying Dutchman ;)
Cheers from Brazil! 🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷
You kissed Garrincha, just before Puskas.
Guys. A Napoli fan here. Please acknowledge our 2022-23 scudetto. We are the champions of Italy
Thanks for reading my comment where I told you about making this one haha :D
13:03 This is not quite right , the season they got promoted, they escaped relegation on the last day, the season AFTER they were 5000-1 to win the Prem and won it
regarding he Coach the first prem season they had Pearson who did well to keep them up, they sacked him and appointed Ranieri, who was not "rando"/"random" he was one of the best coaches in Europe and it was a shock that Leicester got such a highly rated coach and he won the league the season after, and then the season after that...was sacked. The whole 3 years was madness
10:25 I think this has to be the most Iconic Prem moment, and I am a Liverpool fan so I really don't want it to be...but it is
I personally think the "AGUEROOOOOOO!!!!!" goal is one of the most astonishing finishes to a season that I have seen.
Maradona also said that he wanted to score against england again but with his other hand
Messi hase seen it, when you didn't even think of it. This is by far the best to ever play this game so far! Absolute legend!
6:28 Cruyff turn. It's his legacy
But don't worry, we felt the same after losing on home ground to Italy in the semis 2006. 🥲
Greece 2004 is literally a non-story, compared to Denmark 1992. We literally won the tournament without even qualifying!
I actually didnt mind the pauses, its cool that u take time out to explain things and talk....instead of talking alot and missing things in the video
I'm a Bournemouth fan so it makes me happy to see Eddie Howe doing so well. Congratulations, hope you guys smash it next year
@@jayk9662 We're so impressed with the man, it's clear why him and his team achieved everything they did at Bournemouth. the preparation, development, communication with the press and supporters is all top draw and you can see him constantly learning and adapting himself as well as the passion he has for the club already. I hope he's here for decades.
Just had to sell your soul to the Saudis. Only a matter of time once you get drowned in oil money... 😒
You should react to greatest commentaries. Its very promising.
1:40
Pele is the original Great one of football
Maradonna was a legend in his own right
and so is Messi maybe even more so considering the game is Much bigger now (that's what some people say but I don't like looking at it like that)
.. .and as a true Croatian fan I do have to mention Eduardo DaSilva AKA Dudu
One of the most talented people Croatian football team ever saw and that tackle that happened to him was pure savagery and the idiot who tackled him should have gone to prison for it
I love that it was the beard that was the decider for the goat LOL, but yes MESSI is the GOAT
The best pary wasn't winning 4-0, the best part was messi, suarez, coutinho not even scoring a singel goal! 23:32
22:36 Hey, to be fair to the Brazilians, Germany has the most wins or tied with them, forgot to check ;) Either way, the German machine is always haunting to meet, as I'm sure many nations feel. When they are in sync, nobody can tackle them. It is scary.
With the zidane headbutt, you didn't mention that it was the world cup final, and his last game! 😂
You missed Johan Cruyff when you guys where talking about the goats, might not be the GOAT but certainly is a man who also made great impact on the sport. Would like to see you react to him if you haven’t already.
Cruyff is well over due on my channel. I’ve been intending to feature him for months
TOP 5 GOATs
1- Pelé
2- Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi
3- Cristiano Ronaldo or Messi
4- Maradona
5- Garrincha
18:10 please do, that comeback against barca is insane, that was against messi and suarez as well
Need to react to the AGUERROOOOOOOOOOO goal. Unbelievable story behind it
A lot of these require context and prior knowledge of the events to get the full impact.

YNWA
