Numbers CAN lie and you facilitated that. If you are going to cite income v inflation for example - use current info. Apart from that, there is a lot to digest here. I suspect there are numerous nuanced reasons for the decrease in motorcycle riding but motorcycles sales have remain steady for the last 15 years. But numbers: Look at 2008 - yes, sales were down significantly from 2006-07, but they were still 300k + over what we are seeing now. It was 2009 when US sales nose-dived (world-wide financial market collapse) and they never recovered. The US is sitting at half the sales of 2006.
If it really is income induced, wouldn't a motorcycle be much easier to purchase/finance/insure/maintain/fuel than a car? Personally, I think its safety issues associated with the proliferation of distracted drivers on smart phones. I know quite a few cyclists who have set aside their road bikes for mountain bikes and trails because of distracted drivers.

Properly maintained motorcycles are not unsafe in and of themselves. Riding them aggressively on public roads reduces their safety as does riding in cities and inner-ring suburbs because of the obliviousness of other motorists. Greater traffic density makes motorcycles a less safe mode of transportation, but the motorcycles themselves are seldom a cause for concern.

As someone in their mid-30's who took a 10 year break from motorcycles, there's a good reason why I just got back into it. I think motorcycles have shifted towards being more of a hobby, and it's a hobby that I missed. I got an early Miata to try and scratch that openness and small light vehicle itch, but even then there is just no substitute to being on a bike. Yeah, I got a Grom, but that's all I really needed for getting back on the saddle and riding around my local backroads. I took a long break because the last bike I got was stolen, and it was hard for me to justify buying a new one. I finally had enough spare cash to buy one so I stopped procrastinating and went out to the dealer and bought one. Getting new gear can get expensive, but once you got it you got it.

I can speak on this subject. Most people think all motorcycles cost 20k because of commercials. That's what they pitch, and that's what cagers believe. They think there are only 2 types of bike. Either the crotch rocket where the only speed you can do is 200 mph. Or the big massive harley that requires you to join a gang. So, they don't get into it. Most of them aren't aware of how to get training, a license, or any thing else. So, they push the idea away.

    • @armymutt25A
      @armymutt25A 2 месяца назад +1

I had no interest in motorcycles for the reason above. Neither crotch rockets nor Harleys appealed to me. One night I was at my cousin's house and he mentioned Triumphs. Sadly, I spent the first 4 years of the 90s going to high school in England and never heard of Triumph before. I saw the pics on his computer and was checking them out at the dealer the next day. Took the BRC and bought one within 2 months. Now I have 3 Triumph twins, and 2 BMWs.

Secondly it's the tests, you have to do your CBT, theory, Mod 1 then mod 2 which are quite difficult compared to the american standard also cost a fair penny.

53 and haven’t been on a bike since 1984. I’ve recently purchased 2. Royal Enfield GT 650 and a Kawi KLX300R. Best of both worlds.
I can say without a doubt they keep me sane. Riding forces me to stay in the present. The moment I put on my helmet, and do a few revs, my mood physically and mentally changes.

I've wanted to ride motorcycles for most of my life, used to have motorcycle dreams and what not, finally this year at 34 I took the MSF course and tomorrow I'm going to go test drive some cruisers, it'll be my first time actually on the streets and I'm nervous, scared and excited like crazy to do it! All my life I've been told and have thought myself that motorcycles are death traps, I finally broke myself out of that thinking after working with guys that own them and have encouraged me to make the leap.

The problem with Motorcycle costs isn't the cost of the motorcycle, it's the cost of EVERYTHING ELSE. Motorcycle insurance for a CBR650R is 3000$ a season for me. a minivan and a sedan combined is 800... Then add the cost of gear, storage, maintenance, needing a car anyway since it snows here and you've just spend a shit ton of money on a toy (a very fast, capable, adult oriented toy. But a toy nonetheless).

when i was a senior in high school, the van life fantasy penetrated my brain, I quickly let my dreams get crushed because i didn't have the money to convert or buy a van at the time.
Now a few years after high school, I realized I can just do car camping full time in my sedan, even though it's tiny, it's been done before and starting with what you already have is the best place to start.

I started riding back in June of 2023 after taking the MSF for the reason that gas is too expensive for my car. I ride daily a 2023 Honda CB500X and I average 70 MPG. I like how I sit up right, its not too powerful and has just power to pass when I need too. My wife and I were contemplating on getting a new car but they were just too expensive so I got the bike. My wife in August of 2023 took the MSF course and enjoyed it so much that she got a 2018 Triumph Bonneville Bobber with mini ape hangers bars. She rides twice a week for work, and averages about 70 miles on her trips. I already put 8500 miles on my CB and just replaced my tires. I believe that if gas continues to get outrageous more people will probably start riding. Disclaimer: We live in Tampa Bay area.

It's pretty popular where I live(Vermont, USA) When the weather is nice, you will almost always see a guy out on a bike.

You hit the nail on the head. I get on two wheels to shut out everything. I focus on the skill and the wind. And, hey, it saves me 700 a month on the next truck I wanted.

I'm 29 and finally decided I want to learn how to ride. I have my rider course in May which is already booked up (and the two courses prior). I may be an outlier because I could have afforded a bike much sooner (as early as 23), but I always felt it was too unsafe, something I never wanted to do, etc. But all of a sudden my opinion on it flipped and it looks hella fun and like a skill that would be awesome to learn, and I'm excited for my rider course and to finally get my first bike.

Let me tell you, I found your channel & it made me wanna ride I had been wanting to for a long time. Last year I passed the Motorcycle safety course to try & get my endorsement (hopefully by the end of this year). But I live in the PNW & it’s always raining so it pushed me to wait to get my bike so I could practice more. But best believe ima be riding🙌🏽

A week ago, I had never given motorcycles a second thought. Your channel (and FortNine’s) have 100% shown me that this is what I’m missing in my life. Thank you!
