Wild Crow Playing Cup Games

    Today I played some cup games with Kräri.
    The first time he throws the empty cup from the table because it seems to be in the way. He then repeats this principle (throwing the empty cup off the table first) a few times. Later he becomes more confident and at the end he goes directly to the cup with food and ignores the empty cup for the time being.

    I love the way he clears the extraneous cups first, like, let’s get rid of the rubbish so I can concentrate

    I love your videos and your friendship with the crows, it's very special! I'm in the Netherlands and I have befriended a group of 5 wild crows who have their territory in a nearby park. They seem to love peanuts in the shell, so I often bring some for them. They will fly over when I walk into the park and they follow me around the park. Sometimes I sit on a bench to watch them for a while. They watch me and stay around, but they never come very close. I have tried to gift them shiny items, but they haven't taken to any so far.

      Hi Theekje, wow that is great! They seem to know you very well. How wonderful that you can spend time with them regularly. The crows here were also shy in the beginning. It took a while for them to trust me enough to come closer or even take food of my hand.My crows here are not interested in shiny things either, only in food ;-).

      @@KrariTheCrow I tried to introduce a plastic cup to my crow friends, but it scared them so hard! Oh my! x) Poor little guys. I put it upside down on the floor, put a peanut on top of it and a few around it. The crows flew over to get the peanuts, but they were very wary of the cup. The bravest one got close enough to touch one of the peanuts, but then suddenly got spooked by the cup and flew off without the peanut. This scared away the others as well. They didn't want to try again. I got rid of the cup and fed them the peanuts in some other spot.

      @@theekje9133 Haha, the poor crows :-). They are very neophobic! I experience this here again and again. They jump back and forth when they approach a new thing. It takes a lot of patience and a brave bird ;-)

    Lovely. Now try with two yellow cups or two white cups or two of any matched cups and move them around with only one having food. That's the real challenge.

    Oh, I tried this with my dog the other day. If there was only one cup, she could find the treat underneath. If there were more than one cup, she was utterly flummoxed and immediately gave up - she’s not very bright

      Könnte sein, dass deine Krähe einfach ein bisschen länger braucht zu erkennen, dass du es rundum gut mit ihr meinst. Ist schon toll, dass sie keine Angst mehr vor dir hat. 🙂

    Some of you may only know black crows and not hooded crows like the ones in this video. If you wanna know more - here's a video with 8 interesting facts about crows and hooded crows, what social and intelligent birds they are, how they communicate with each other in a complex phonetic and body language, the behavior of young birds and more:: ruclips.net/video/AxY3ztpzxes/видео.html

    So great to watch him, thank you! 🤩 Have you tried using three cups and maybe putting some food under two of them?

    • @KrariTheCrow
      @KrariTheCrow  2 месяца назад

      Yes I tried that too. I think he will always check under every cup out of thoroughness. As a crow he can’t take the risk of missing one peace of food 😉.
