  • Dagan shows you how to sound like IDLES and get the IDLES guitar sound. We also nearly blow the windows out with a pedal!
    Dagan takes a closer look at gear Mark Bowen and Lee Kiernan use to create the IDLES signature sound and how you can achieve that sound with a selection of different pedals, guitars and amps.
    We're using gear you can readily get hold of today and alternatives to a selection of vintage and high-end gear IDLES tend to use.
    Disclaimer Dagan says "Mark and Bowen" at the start of the video (1min) - obviously, he means Mark and Lee!

    What do you mean when you say get an amp with lots of head room?

    • @peteytwofinger
      @peteytwofinger 2 года назад +3

      head room is the amount of signal you can feed into an amp before it distorts . so if you have a amp with high headroom , its a "greater" amp they tend to be very loud and expensive , they are also the type of amp one uses pedals or dirt boxs to create the distortion because the amp simply is unable to do so . high headroom amps produce a powerful clean tone , not so much distortion and this is in direct physical relation to its preamp section having the ability to pass a huge ammount of signal and not distort. high headroom amps are not as common as amps that distort but they certainly are out there and exist. its just more of a specialty design. a small wattage practice amp like a 15 watt fender front man is not a high head room amp . a high watt is famous for being a high headroom amp - dave gilmour used stuff like a fuzz face thru his hi wattts to provide dirt which is short for distortion . also the higher the rated wattage may also be an indicator of a high headroom design (but not always) as this concept may have a strong relation to the input or preamp section of the amp which is seperate from the power amp section , but going hand in hand there may be a correlation . some amps have preamps that are tuned for great distortion tone , some amps even have a op amp and a set of clipping diodes for this purpose - these types of amps with built in distortion in the preamp are not high headroom amps . this is all my opinion , many people would say i have no idea what i am speaking on . those people tend to not take time to try and explain things but they are quick to take pot shots at those who do. i did my best , sorry . here is what you need to know . expensive is good . the more rediculously over powered and non efficient the better the chance the next guy will aprove of your gear .

    Ambitious idea to take on, BUT, - outside of gear sales and marketing, the IDLES are all about experimentation and " whatever".They'd be the first to tell you not to waste your time and your life trying to copy anything; that's the whole point of their sound and their music.If you wanted an example of how to create your own sound, - then knock yourself out.
    I have mostly Fender guitars and amps, but I avoid their pedals because they are made in China, and are expensive and not that good.( Also hate the way they look.)
