man, these tones are amazing! As a worship person its so hard to find people who use the POD XT Live, thanks so much for sharing this! Im gonna definitely use these, that swell tone is beautiful!
I bought a pod xt live when they first came out, it was quite a lot of money back then. It serves me well for 2 uses. It replaced all my pedals with this one floorboard. I care not for wah pedals but the noise suppressor, volume pedal and tuner are very useful. Second use was I could play with headphones modelling my real head and cabinet - I can jam with my drummer who uses an E drum kit. I haven't bought anything new since it still works. They go very cheap second hand these days, if you want to get your foot in the door pod xt live is worth considering.
Lance Page well said man! This thing is truly a beast! I still have to say that I love my Boss ME-50 over this, but it does have a ton of useful settings. I use it in a studio setting for getting authentic amp sounds without lugging around huge amps. Thanks for the helpful comments!
Awesome tones! I'm looking for jazzy cleans/delays/swells and a lot of this is spot-on! Mind sharing what your output knobs are set at, whether you're doing amp vs. line, etc? Like where all the physical buttons on the back of the board are set and if there are any other settings you tweaked at the beginning of making these tones just to get a solid baseline for playing through an amp
I just picked a great condition used one. I am trying to learn how to use it. So far the stock sounds seem thin an tinny to me and I vast get the overdriven amps sounds to feedback like a regular pedalboard/amp set would. I could def use your guidance
How cool is this. I Still use a Line6 XT Live I have a Helix too I have 2 Veriax Guitars One original and a newer one. On my Video page I have show the setting for some songs like Fooled Around and Fell in Love but every video Lesson or Cover Song was made with a Line 6 XT Live I even bought a new in box unit from EBay when my first one started to go bad. I couldn't live without it. I'm Glad Other people Find the Value of this Wonderful Pedal and are still using it like I do. Awesome Video. I Run my XT Live into a PRO D2 Stereo Direct Box and Out Right and Left into 2 PA speaker and a Through out to a Spider IV 4x12 half stack set on Clean No effects this adds a bit of Low end from the FR FR from the Right and Left PA Speakers. All Recordings were done though a Mixer into a Laptop I use headphones for recording.
...And there's a Bass version too. Looks identical (say 'Bass Pod"), I have both and love them greatly. Very versatile...stacking of effects between patches that share a basic tone. Everyone digs bass with drive and wah for coloring during jams! I've replaced rotary encoders, flushed solder slag from the IC chip sets legs (poor manf. QC), etc to keep these things going.
@@Homestudiosimplifed I'll dig around and see what I can find. I know I have some old recordings where I used the canned drums in my Zoom 1608 recorder and layered two bass tracks (one as bass and one as treble) with a good deal of swirly effects. Very atmospheric but driving.
The Cab Sims sound quite outdated today. I still use the XT live in front of an amp, with the Cab Sim switched of and the Output Setting set to "Studio direct". With the parametric EQ, you can get really good results. You just shouldn't see the amps as exact reproductions, I see them as 101 distortion boxes... I think, recordings would sound much better, if you had added modern IR's in the DAW.
Me too. I use mine in front of a 5 Watt valve Blackstar and get some glorious sounds. I also have a James Tyler Variax which sounds pretty awesome as well. Great for mic'd up recording because it is so quiet.
Thank you for posting! I am looking for a great clean sound as well as an ambient swell sound to use with my volume pedal. Unfortunately, I can't run the software on my Mac anymore so I have to edit everything on the footboard. It is possible to share your amp, cab, mod and delay settings for the sounds you feel best fit those criteria?
I have noticed a general problem with my head. Given discrete pedals, I default to turning everything off and getting a sound I'm happy with between my guitar and my amp. I'm in tune? Guitar sounds good? Intonated and set up right? Pickup sounds pleasant? (Pickup height where I want it). Now dial my amp in where I want it, add maybe at a touch of clean boost, and sound good right? Same guy (me) with a PodXT live: Just flailing around on presets. This all sounds garbage. Turns it off. Goes back upstairs and watches more RUclips. Just cos the thing lets me preset surf instead of tweaking, why is it that I expect I can skip all the work of building a sound, piece by piece, layer by layer, starting with a good in-tune and intonated rig and a basic transparent stompbox base sound. I think I can answer that question. Analysis paralysis, or Option paralysis. I do love my Pod XT Live, and I do love multi-stomp boxes and multi-effects, and digital audio processing. But given N capabilities, my brain shuts down. So I'm trying these days to do minimalism with my pod. Do the "pod bypass", set myself up. Now set up bank 1A, 1B,1C,1D to have four useable preset. All starting with all four sections (AMP,STOMP,MOD,DELAY) off. There are sections that are still on in that case. EQ. the master compressor, the noise gate, the reverb settings. My master level (on amp section bypass) etc. Getting that tone to be something I can stand that doesn't make me sad, is the key for me. You can lose a sound you're happy with, and then try to make it up with a boatload of phaser or autowah or delay trails, but really, that's not making me happy as a player anymore. I'm gravitating to minimalist use of a maximalist (and currently out of vogue) floor box, and now my Pod XT Live is making me happy again. The fact that most people have ditched these and moved up to a HX series boxes makes the Pod XT Live an absolute powerhouse buy these days. These are going for dirt cheap and for someone willing to add one external stompbox if there's something they want that the Pod XT won't do. (For me, it's another Line6, the DL4, so I can have two delays on at once, and an external analog fuzz because none of the built in Pod XT fuzzes sound like I want.)
Warren...I feel you! I zipped through and found the few I liked. Have decided to play with this one. I've got an old DigiTech GPS 2112 that I have no urge to tweak. Simply trying to figure out how is headache enough.
I have one of these. I gotta say it-s pretty useful for recording or if you dont have a great amp. When I bought my first good valve amp, the xt completly killed my tone and I wouldnt recommend it to anyone. Bottom line: if you want to record or have an average transistor amp, then its AWESOME. For Valve amps, stick with the individual pedals and by a pedalswitcher.
Nice man. thx for reminding me of some of the options. You would be a perfect guitar player for an Elvis tribute band. U got those rythyms down. Nice lighting and vibe too.
Good question. That's actually a very big deal. There are 3 ways to use this pedal. 1)In front of a guitar amp (amp setting). 2)Direct out to PA and/or recording studio monitors (Line setting). 3)Out to a power amp and then Celestion guitar speakers (Line setting). I've tried all 3 and number 3 is by far the best way to use it. Sounds killer! With Line setting you can choose your cab and mic emulation which opens up a whole other category of sounds. Also when downloading patches created by others it matters how they are using it. If someone is using the pedal in front of an amp, the patches they create will not be dialed in for a Line sound. That's a pet peave of mine, most people don't mention the setup used when they created their patches. Best setup I had with this pedal was Line out to a 2 channel power amp, one channel to two 12" Celestions and one channel to two old 12" paper cone Rockford Fostgate subs. Separate volume so I could balance between them. I could get that massive Djug Djug muted power chord sound even at low to medium volumes. ie - early Anthrax. If I had unlimited funds I would get that setup back but with a mixer in front for volume/tone control and two power amps to run it in stereo. Perhaps get two Marshall MX212 cabs and mod them with a sealed sub on the bottom and celestion on the top. Separate jacks, separate powered for total control. That would be the perfect setup IMO.
@@Homestudiosimplifed I have a Pod XT Live and the bass pod xt and both are such dirt magnets. I keep a pack of baby wipes right beside the thing because it drives me bonkers.
It's funny you would say that! I have one and yes it's seen it's fair share of use and abuse. That's one of the reasons I like it, I've put it through a lot and it hasn't had any issues other than the original power supply cable was thin and eventually broke, but I was able to get a new one for like $25 that was was better designed. But in the rare instances where I have nothing to do, I do clean it up...
