    Welcome to Portugal!
    Your integration will be very easy. We wish the best for who decide to come and live with us. Saying good morning or good afternoon with a smile to your neighbors or at the grocery store is the basis for making friends.
    Here are some additional things to keep in mind as you settle into your new home:
    Learn some basic Portuguese (Hello, Good Morning, Thanks...) and please, Be patient. It takes time to adjust to a new culture and way of life. Don't get discouraged if you don't understand everything right away. We are happy to have you here in Portugal!

      Thank you for your nice words! I noticed the friendliness every time I visited in the past year; everyone says hello and greats each other.
      I've started to learn some Portugese with an app, and hope to find a tutor to help me study.

    Hey Yvon. I can relate to all the reasons you would be happy and comfortable in Portugal. Foodie. ? Oh yes ! Prices are out of sight in the US and Holland. In Portugal you are close to a lot of Europe. I will be exited to see where you end up. I hope you find the right property.
    Good luck ! From Yvonne in California. Still Dutch ! 💕🙏🌷🇳🇱👍👍

      Yeah, housing prices are insane in the Netherlands... And like you're saying; in Portugal Europe is pretty close. It's not super central, but still good enough I'd say.

    Welcome to Portugal. Please be aware that the winters are cold and damp the more you go inland. So please secure dry fire wood for the winter and buy a couple of electric dehumidifiers. Cheers.

    I understand what you are saying about the cost of living these days! A friend in London bought return flights to the Algarve for less than the price of the train fare from his home to the nearest airport . Another is spending £21 a day to travel from home in Hertfordshire to work in a London hospital. I’m surprised the cost of living in the UK on your chart is not higher.

    • @GoYvon
      @GoYvon  3 месяца назад +2

      Pfff... That's problematic in more than one way! Public transportation should be affordable for people, flights shouldn't be that cheap, and his employer should compensate him for the commute.

    Hello.
    I agree with all your reasons, but I think you forgot one also very important... the lovely beaches and the huge Coast line that we have... It is wonderful. I live in Algarve and even in a rainy day it is good to go to the beach just to look at the Ocean and smell the maritime brease...😅
    See you in the next one...
    P.S. I have another channel called "NATURE WALKS" where I have some videos of Algarve.

      Yes, the beaches! On our roadtrip in February we were in Aveiro and Ovar and went to the coast, it was pretty!
      I'll have to check out the channel, I love walking in nature.

    Portugal is truly a paradise country as long as you don't need to find work there... an average teacher makes like €1200 a month, you pay like €300 for rent, really doesn't give you much if you want to live a comfortable life and travel the world. But to retire there with money is great, i also want to move there and semi retire 😅

    • @GoYvon
      @GoYvon  3 месяца назад +2

      1200 is not a lot.... We have some ideas on how we're going to make money, but luckily we also have a bit of a buffer.

    Bunny and I were just in Lisbon in February and it was actually quite different than I expected. Outside of the hills (EVERYWHERE), the people were quite friendly. The coffee, bica, however was not something I really enjoyed (and I love coffee).

  • @oliverwhite1119

    don't be offended. but I don't see why those reasons are related. it feels that there is something behind you are not telling us. which is fine. for example your agency moving spies now across the world and your new country assigned to you was Portugal. And this decision you cannot influence. Plus after all 14 years you are still not fluent in Mandarin. This is weird. Same about your husband. Meaning that you were there for "jobs" and not for real because you are so excited about country. There are plenty of places in US except Indiana, plus not sure why you even decided to open Indiana, - because it is the most horrible state ever. Anyway, good luck on your journey.
