Savage Flies is a project with the mission of encouraging and teaching fly tying to as many people as possible. The channel is named after one of my western Maryland homewaters, the Savage River. I've been uploading at least three new videos a week (usually Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday).
Thanks for stopping by. Please let me know in the comments if you have any tying tips you would like to share or if you have any patterns you would like to see tied here.

Very nice and simplistic looking fly. I was happy when you mentioned it having a mini-streamer resemblance. That was the very first thing that came to my mind when I seen it. Great video Matt. I’m slowly working my way through your channel play list. Another series completed. Thank you Sir.

Love simplicity. We often dress up the flies to suit ourselves and not the fish. KISS is what my daddy always told me 😉

You're absolutely right! Why would a fish ever eat a zebra midge?? There's nothing to it! But the work. 😁

Sounds like this one is a good one for beginners!

Oh yeah. If I'm tying a bunch of these for my fly box, and I get the material ready ahead of time, I can knock them out in 3-4 minutes each. And if I'm not talking to myself on camera. 😁

i enjoy the look and effectiveness of the splayed hackle tip wings, especially the grizzly. The bass in NY love to eat crane flies and that style makes a great imitation.

Oh yeah! My problem with crane and dragon flies when using hackle tips for the wings is that when wet they always stick to the sides of the body. I've tied a couple of beautiful crane flies that are only beautiful when they're dry!

Nice Fly Matt, you make it look easy.
Mine keep getting a little better learning.
One question every time you cut the excess can you use it for other flies.
    Thank Keep it Tying.

Pablo, absolutely! With good dry fly hackle, you can often get 2-3 flies out of each feather.
