You can only be as efficient as the people you lead. That's why it's important to try to instill work ethic.

Labor 1. 2. Materials (possibly logistics or over sold to forecast). 3. Team morale.

As a Quality Assurance Tech, the QA Superintendent (over both plants and shifts) invited me into his office the other day asking questions about my experience as a new hire. I told him that everything was going great. He then asked me what I needed to be successful, and I told him that the only reason I came to QA in the first place was to become a supervisor. He told me stories of young, fresh employees who had become successful supervisors after only 6 months in some circumstances. I've dedicated the next 6-12 months to learning as much as possible about the plant as well as management. One question he rhetorically asked was "Are you ready to become a supervisor?" My first thought was "What do I have to be ready for that I don't know about already, is there something more that I don't know?"
How would someone prepare to become a supervisor? I want to be as prepared as possible before I tell him I'm ready.

Yes. That's making sure you hold everyone accountable, make sure you're fair, and build relationships with people. Listen mostly. Bring your ideas don't don't be forceful. Present your ideas and how you can and will be an impact. Especially talk about you can engage with people.

Your reason wasn't to become a supervisor, actually. Your reason was to come in learn and grow within the company. Being a supervisor isn't just a title.

Yes because, being a supervisor isn't about you. Being a supervisor "to me" is about what can you inspire your subordinates to become. I can't move up or get a promotion if my subordinates don't know or can't perform their jobs efficient. Being a supervisor you have to train your team, the most challenging part IMO is finding the people and building trust. Alot of workers want to be against the supervisor not knowing we want the best for them and their careers. They want a raise but don't understand what it takes to get it. I started from the bottom at my company but the new hires don't know it.

Hi @luxurreview, you ask a good question, and @tramaynwashington1545 has provided some fantastic advice to answer it. I especially think "Being a supervisor isn't about you. Being a supervisor "to me" is about what you can inspire your subordinates to become." is absolutely true and so important to be a successful supervisor or leader. Before you're a leader, we achieve results through what we do. Once you're a leader, you achieve results through what your team can do, and that's a big shift for a lot of new leaders. You have to be ready to be curious and open-minded and coach your team to success. If you focus on those aspects (I already think you have the curiosity and open-mindedness, since you're here asking how to be a good supervisor), I think you'll have what it takes to be a great supervisor.
