First of all, congratulations to you all on this fantastic first video!
Although nothing beats the original, this rendition comes as close to 'excellent' as any other modern versions I've heard.
The idea to use jazz chords was a good one, and works really well here.
(Kudos to Stephan for the brilliant idea, and to you for going along with it!)
The lighting and hazy set-style are excellent, and there are some really beautiful shots in there. (That father/son guitar reflection shot was a nice touch!! Brilliant concept, and very well executed!!)
I love the angles and and cross-shots, the focus is great, the timing on the
focal-changes are smooth, and Oliver's talent shines through.
That said, I feel the 'shaky' style of the shots, even if intentional, undermines them a little. I think this particular setup and song-style would benefit from some slightly longer shots and less 'quick-cuts', and having a more 'stable' look throughout.
A little more time and money for better stabilizers, tripods, tracks for pan-shots, etc. can go a long way. (that pan-right around Pascal for instance..moving up as you pan right around the drummer is a great idea, but would be super-smooth if you had a curved half-track on a ramp so that the camera height increased as it went around).
Excellent job all around though..Quite impressive for a first run!
Immediately I see alot of talent on both sides, and I can't wait to see more from you!
The thing that really took away from the 'professional quality' the most, was the little post-recording cover-ups in vocals between 40 and 54 seconds.
(it's a little thing and most people probably won't hear it unless they are listening for it, but y'all know what I'm talking 'bout.)
Voice correction is super difficult to do.
Alina is very talented and if she was a little 'off', or something technical happened, re-recording it would have been better choice than leaving that in. (feels very much like it wasn't noticed until the final edit, and once noticed, it was either too late or too difficult to re-record so the decision was made to correct it with software).
I would almost rather hear her slightly 'off' than hear that robotic sound as a 'cover-up'. AutoTune/Vocaloid/Celemony/Vocoder, etc have their place as standard tools in the industry these days, but using them as a correction for a "first release" is not among them.
I hope this isn't coming off too 'harsh' sounding.
I love your sound it's pretty obvious you have the potential to 'go places' in this business, so I hope you will take what I say in stride and use it to help yourselves rather than taking offence.
Overall, this is an amazing video!
You all sound amazing for only having been playing together for a few years.
I can't wait to see more and am super happy to hear that Alina is joining the group.
Pick a band-name (make it a good one and stick with it).
Find a reputable promoter, get this song up on SoundCloud, maybe start a 'kickstarter' or 'GoFundMe' project and use this song as promo launching point to help fund your first album. Re-record this song and include it on your first album.
Don't forget to put it everywhere you can.. iTunes, Amazon, etc (everywhere that can give it the promotion it deserves) and put it in every book and music store that will carry it.
If you do all that, be ready for stardom cuz it's heading your way!

Hi CopalFreak, first of all, your remarks don´t come across "harsh" , as you put it. It´s exactly the type of input every creative person needs and likes, if he or she is not a narcist.
I´m writing to you as the one who did the editing of the video and worked with Oli on the ideas for the images.
If you look at 0´40 it is this typical tradeoff situation: We wanted to keep Alinas sweet smile, although the camera began to move. So finally we decided to bite the bullet and accept the "shaky style" in order to keep the nice picture in. The movement around Pascal, ok, really shaky, but he was a bit under represented during the whole song, so it was another decision against a cleaner picture.
But you also saw all the good moves, which we were pretty proud of, like the transition to the solo at 1´30 and also the reflection, which was the final shot of the day, but it had to be done :-)
So, thx for all your thoughts. Hope to hear from you on our next song.
