      technicly, Gobber kept his limbs in tact, can't say the same for Stoick in the end of the movie though. Gobber: "The life of a celebraty is very ruff, he can bearly get thorough the village without being swarmed by his new fans." Good job well done. Then comes Stoick: "I did this" Twenty minutes later and the kids nickname is righty.

  • @JenkoRun
    @JenkoRun 6 лет назад +324

    I get why they removed "Axe to Grind" (The real reason) But they should have left it in.
    This shows some rather important character development for the both of them, it also shows that she doesn't hate him like she's made out to be in the community. It also adds more to her reasoning of reacting so badly to Hiccups "Sudden success"
    "We finally get a chance to show them what we got, I am so excited"
    Makes her reaction a little more sensible then just "being a bitch"
    It also shows that they could get along if needed, and she doesn't actively seek out to be mean to him. Most of her jabs at him in this scene are her typical casual talk.
    From the look of it, it's more like she avoids him due to his destructive tendencies (He literally destroys part of the Village in the movie for crying out loud) And his lack of Viking qualities, those 2 facts together are unlikely to make him any friends on Berk... Human friends.
    Though what Hiccup said at the start has me wondering how often they have idle chat like this:
    "Please... Astrid wouldn't come near me if she was on fire and I had the only bucket of water in town."
    Probably not often. I wonder if this comes from his lack of self esteem, as Astrid doesn't seem to match that description of her in this scene
    However, 15 yr old Astrid is - for the lack of a better word - Impulsive, and doesn't really care about how her actions affect those around her, especially if you compare her to her 18 and 20 yr old selves, her character is far more mature and caring at those ages then she was at 15.
    Final thoughts: Astrid is not the bitch that a lot of people in this community make her out to be. But she isn't very caring or considerate of how she treats others until years later *RTTE*

    • @osmanyousif7849
      @osmanyousif7849 Год назад +19

      Eh, I really don't think that's the issue, but more of the fact that Hiccup or Astrid herself brings up her flaws throughout the story. And I think the scene at the dock, felt like a missed potential for this. Because I feel like her confronting Hiccup to why he didn’t kill Toothless wasn't more unelaborated, especially when she says she wants to hear what he says. But throughout the first half of the movie, she never cared about how he felt or what he had to say, even treating him as beneath her. It wasn't until Hiccup showed her that dragons like Toothless weren't dangerous that she began to change her heart. But before, Vikings like Astrid were always getting everything, and it never mattered how many times she messed up, because, unlike her, Hiccup was always getting looked down upon whatever he messes up. It would’ve been interesting if the argument on the dock has the two realizing that they are very much alike.
      So here's how I think the argument on the dock should have gone:
      Astrid: So why didn't you? (Why Hiccup didn't kill Toothless)
      Hiccup: I don't know. I couldn't.
      Astrid: That's not an answer.
      Hiccup: Well, why is this so important to you all of a sudden?
      Astrid: Because I want to remember what you say, RIGHT NOW.
      Hiccup: [angry] DON'T DO THAT! Oh please, don't do that! You were just like everyone else! You NEVER cared what I had to say or how I feel!
      Astrid: Hiccup, I...
      Hiccup: Vikings like you have everything! You don't have to be good! You can screw up over and over again, and the whole village likes you still!
      Astrid: Please, just...
      Hiccup: You'll never know what it's like to be seen as a failure, because YOU WERE BORN A VIKING!
      Astrid: [angrily bursts out] Yeah, I'm a Viking! I'm the Viking who failed the test! The one who had force themselves to train harder, and the one who was so afraid of letting everyone down! Because.... I just wanted to make them proud of me. [Sighs and sits down on the dock] Hiccup, I'll never know how you feel, okay… but you're not the only failure here. I may act like a Viking… but the truth is.... most of the time I'm terrified.
      [For a few seconds, Hiccup is just silent and finally sits down with Astrid]
      Hiccup: Why didn't you ever tell me that before?
      Astrid: Because... we weren't friends before.
      Hiccup: I guess that's why I couldn't do it.
      Astrid: What?
      Hiccup: I could've to kill him (Toothless). He seemed so scary and vicious, but when I looked into his eyes, he looked as frightened as I was. It was like.... I was looking at myself.
      So there you have it. Basically giving the argument much more depth, Astrid gets a moment to speak about herself for once with Hiccup, while also connecting to why that her and Hiccup are so much alike, even connecting to Hiccup's reason to why he didn't kill Toothless.

He just saw it when he looked up, unintentional. And then he broke the axe out of the shock, if he looked up and stared maybe, but it was barely a second after she went up to grab whatever item on the top shelf. • @Mel27989
      @Mel27989 8 лет назад +38

      +madison kirby well, sometimes you have to cut out even just 2 minutes, because it's a
      hella lot to animate, just think about it, 1 second has 24 frames
      (standard animation framerate), so 2 minutes would be 2880 pictures,
      that in 3D can take up months to animate (especially in a movie that is
      detailed and kept realistic), and you need (of course) to pay the
      animators for that extra time, which you usually don't have the money for (unless the
      producer can whip up some extra money and take the risk)..so it makes
      perfect sense to cut out a few extra minutes, sometimes even just
      seconds if it's not in the budget

    The conversation about Hiccup's problems with his father remind me of the problems my cousins and I have with our grandfather.
    He treats everyone of his grandchildren horribly, but me being the oldest of them and a girl, got it much worse as I was seen as a disappointment. I even said something similar to to Hiccup's, "If I didn't live in the same house as him", line.
    Mine was more like, "If I didn't look so much like him, I'd never believe we were related."
    Just a few months ago, he was yelling at me for not knowing he had a sister who died back in the 1970s. No one ever told me about any of our relatives outside of my 1st cousins.
    He threatened one of my cousins with making sure he would never get a job if it didn't involve the "family business of farming".

Hiccup resents the disappointment he is to that and Stoick is disappointed that Hiccup cannot reach it. That creates the broken relationship between the two and makes Hiccup's journey all the more impactful. It turns the broken, disappointment of a relationship into a seemingly impossible journey to become the person you look up to, while still maintaining your identity. HTTYD is a masterpiece in terms of storytelling.

    Ahhh, loved the way Gobber was trying to ship Hicstrid here! :D Feels kinda weird when ur dad's friends ask about girls but then it feels kinda cool when they give support :D
    Also, this gives me a weird vibe... like, ATM we all know Hicstrid is a thing (A very big thing! :D) but when we look back we see all this when she sort of hated him I guess, dayumn O_O
    And I wonder why they made her taller and seem more grown up here, makes him look more like a baby compared to her :/ I'd prefer it if he looked more grown up than her.

    • @MrAndrius12
      @MrAndrius12 7 лет назад +12

      I guess so. But it's just that from all I remember, she usually didn't take him well the most. But I guess that was due to him stealing her victories.
      That is kinda true. Well, when they were teenagers they looked about equal, but when they turned into adults he did actually seem more grown up and stuff. He's taller, he's more of a risk taker, etc, etc.

    • @MrAndrius12
      @MrAndrius12 7 лет назад +4

      Yeah, I was pointing to that about him taking what she thought was rightfully hers. In a way I get how she feels. It also reminds me of Kung Fu Panda where Tigress gets mad that Po became the dragon warrior even though she trained so many years.
      Wait, he carried her? I remember him grabbing her by her waist and letting her lean back but I can't remember him carrying her in his arms (Something tells me my memory just failed me short term. I think I remember him carrying her in a few episodes but I don't know). What episodes did he carry her in do ya remember?

    • @MrAndrius12
      @MrAndrius12 7 лет назад +7

      Ah yeah. I also remember when he punched Snotlout in the face, he knocked a few of his teeth out and whatnot XD Too bad Astrid didn't get to see that, she would have LOVED to see that happen to Snotlout XD
      Also nice GIF, Buffalord Soldier episode was already sweet enough as it was (After all that spit drinking of course) and it's lovely to see how he carried her in this GIF :D

      @MrAndrius12 7 лет назад +2

      Yeah. It was so funny seeing her beat him up :D
      I must say, I think that the reason that Astrid didn't like ANYONE except Hiccup was probably cos the writers wanted to make "The perfect relationship". In which I think they succeeded, it shows really well how she's staying away from all other guys and how she cares about Hiccup :D

    Here is a question that must be asked, if Hiccup never meet/shoot down Toothless would Astrid even fall in love with him down the line, sure the bondage that Hiccup has with Toothless and Astrid is unbreakable once it has been made however what if it never came to be? Because keep in mind Hiccup shooting down Toothless was dame close to impossible for many reasons(the cannon wasn’t fully calibrated, it was at night hunting a night fury, Toothless is one of if not the most fastest dragons, A night fury is the rarest dragon that doesn’t even have a description of what it is or what it can do, Hiccup wasn’t aiming/looking, and the projectile wasn’t designed to catch a dragon at high speeds) making the HTTYD series out of pure luck. No different then the spider that bit Peter Parker, out of pure random chance, that was lucky enough to give one individual the opportunity of a life time to help others and themselves.
    Might be a coincidence
    Thou was is said about coincidences scientifically?
    The universe/Laws of really/god(what ever you wish it to be) is rarely lazy.
    Which the balance of probably indicates intention on a larger scale,
    Thou what if it was just random chance
    then that mean that individual didn’t deserve which was given,
    Take away what is given what becomes of the individual and those views around him/her, by people that would have made his/her life meaningful , being Friends, family, lovers or children?
    What are do you believe would happe? would Astrid even fall in love with Hiccup without the intervention of Toothless, yes Toothless made it easier for Hiccup to show himself to everyone else, however if Toothless never existed, what would become of not only Hiccup but the the views of the Vikings toward dragons which in turn has conflict with Hiccup’s morals, case being Toothless and Hiccup’s friendship is not only rare to the point of being a near impossibility but is incredibly influential on everything that has happened in the series, that without said friendship, life would be a living hell for all thous in that time, the red Death, dragon hunters, Drago, Grimmel, what else must be said. So what do you think, would Astrid and Hiccup still be lovers, or will she deny him?
    Keep it objective

    • @lindenlynx
      @lindenlynx 5 лет назад +2

      I don't think Astrid would have fallen in love with him. She may learn to accept him as a friend, but I think she'd grow up still thinking he's sort of weak and pathetic. She wouldn't really get a chance to see Hiccup's strengths because their way of life doesn't incorporate his strengths. Just my guess though!

    • @CB-um7km
      @CB-um7km 2 года назад +2

      @@lindenlynx i think they still would have gotten together. Hiccups weapons were getting better and better. It was only a question of time until he creates something that can kill a dragon easily. I mean he is like 15 in the first movie and can already shoot down a nightfury, give him a few years and he could kill most dragons easily with some range weapon, (given that that is still what he wants to do). So he would probably get accepted by the others eventually, but i am not sure if astrid would consider that true strength or just cheating.

    Just realised that the deletion of the "Goodbye at the docks" scene created a small continuity hole in the final film- before Hiccup flew up to fight the Red Death, Stoick told him he didn't have to and Hiccup answered "We're vikings- it's an occupational hazard". Except in the finished film he only said that line at the meeting in the great hall, which Hiccup wasn't present for, so the ironic echo makes no sense.
