- Male chicks born into the egg industry are killed on their first day of life. The most common method of killing is to drop the baby chickens into a grinder while they are still alive. You didn't know, did you?

Europe has already figured out a solution to this, this is completely unnecessary. They developed a scanner that can quickly tell which eggs are male and which are female and can separate them, so the male eggs never hatch to begin with, they just stay un-incubated eggs. This is not just much more humane, but it is also much more cost-efficient because you don't have to incur costs for incubating, feeding, staffing, manually identifying chicken sex, incurring a 50% loss of eggs/chicks, etc. With this technology, even the greediest business owner has zero excuse to be inhumane. Europe shows a lot of leadership in animal rights, we need to learn from them.

Im sorry, but what do you think they will do? Release them to wild? They will die anyway. They can't manage so many rosters for no profit, they will go bankrupt. Chickens are killed pretty much instantly so they are not tortured in anyway. It's a painless death.

When we were little we would buy these chicks and there was one thing odd with them. When we left them alone they would start screaming and when someone comes near them they quickly run towards them like they are afraid of something now i know why they do that. I'm never eating an egg again untill its layed by my own chickens

I’m a normal male who hunts deer and goes fishing… I worked in the dairy industry for 35 years … the way farmers treat animals is horrendous.., to me it’s not a joke all it takes is a little responsible planning and a little tiny less profits..

So why are they shredded as young chicks when they could be shipped off to chicken farms to grow? Seems like a waste of energy and time to have them be hatched and not utilize them.
The industry considers feeding and growing them to be the 'waste' here - their priority is profit, and it's more cost effective for them to kill these chicks than let them live and grow.
The type of chickens who are raised to be in the egg industry are not the same type of chickens who are raised to be killed and eaten. The latter have been genetically bred to grow as quickly and as "meaty" as possible, and are slaughtered at just a few weeks of age. Chickens we take eggs from are not considered 'suitable' for growing, to kill and eat, by the industry.

I agree. This practice has been banned in Germany and now, the chicks are killed in other countries and rats are specially bred for food. Basically banning this practice makes no sense.

The chickens bred to be killed and eaten are a different type of chicken to those bred for us to take their eggs, so they are considered 'unsuitable' for growing by the industry. They will not make enough money from them. Maximising profits is their number one priority.

They will never lay eggs, so they are not profitable for the industry. They kill them not long after they are born in order to keep costs as low as possible and profits as high as possible.
they should keep some female chicks to lay eggs, the rest should never be hatched, and used as normal eggs, personally i hate eggs, but not because of this reason, but i think there are better ways to do this, andno im not a full vegan, but i think this is sad.
