    Thanks for all the tips! One thing for me as I'm preparing to start my journey, will be getting those passes. Because I'm disabled, I get a huge discount on passes and can camp for free in Natl parks and for $6 a night in a lot of State parks not all though. Thanks again☺️

    Great tips Amber! One thing that has helped me save money was to get a Citicards Double Cash Credit card. It's 2% back on every purchase. I know you can sometimes earn more on cards with rotating categories but who has time to keep up with what category and what month it is. LOL I usually spend about $1200 a month putting all my bills on the card. Then at the end of the billing cycle I get 2% back once I've paid the bill. Over the course of a year I usually end up with about $700-$800 in cashback. I do pay the card off every month.

    I did not hear you mention to slow down to save gas. When I would go above 65 in my Travato not only was it harder to drive, but the gas mileage would plummet. Thanks for all your videos.

    If you don't work in an office job, you can also save money on hairdressers, clothes and shoes as you can dress more leisurely and wear your clothes for longer. Also consider repairing your clothes. You can also save a lot of money on makeup and perfume/fragrances. Another option to save money is to cut back on alcohol.

    Great advice as always. I just recently started the next chapter of my life, that being, living in my shortie/skoolie...Wanda...since Wanda's a big girl (over 14,000lbs) I've decided to NOT fill her up with gas every time I go to the pumps as (just like water) that's just extra weight I'd be hauling around. I'm in Ontario (Canada) and gas is currently at $1.94/L. I put in $100 worth rather than a full fill-up.

    One thing that no one has mentioned is when your health issues interfere with your traveling. I suffer from asthma (ABPA) with COPD (bronchiectasis), a duodenal ulcer and failed back surgery syndrome. In additional to seeing a primary care provider, I see a few specialists. Because I also take narcotic pain medication, I can only get my pain meds filled at a pharmacy within my State of residency with the only exception being in across the Colorado River in Mohave County AZ as there are no pharmacies in Cal-Nev-Ari, Laughlin or Searchlight. If you live south of Boulder City NV, you pretty much either have to comeback to the Las Vegas Metro area for medical care or go to Mohave County AZ. I also have to see my pain management specialist every 60 days to maintain my pain management prescription. We also now have a narcotic pain medication shortage in southern Nevada. None of the major retail pharmacy chains can get oxycodone. I suspect this will also happen with other meds as well. Another by product of C-19 supply chain problems. If you elect to embark on this lifestyle, you need to be healthy enough to do it and not chained to medical care. If you're tethered to your doctors chances are it isn't going to happen. You have the choice of either going into a nomad lifestyle knowing it may also be a possible death sentence. If you go into the nomad lifestyle know what you're signing yourself up for.
    The second issue is acquiring an RV. Another by product of C-19 supply chain issues. Auto and RV makers can't get parts to build new vehicles. This also affects maintenance and servicing existing vehicles. It's only going to get worse before it gets better. I suspect C-19 supply chain problems will take years, if not decades, to resolve themselves. We're only seeing the tip of the iceberg and it hasn't hit the Titanic this economy is becoming. The price of everything is going up; motor oil, transmission fluid, engine coolant, tires, vehicle computer chips even bolts, nuts and screws.
    Many people are getting rid of their vehicles because they simply can't afford to drive anymore. In areas with a mass transit system there's now also a bus driver shortage along with also a truck driver shortage. The waiting list to get an RV is just getting longer every day. Vehicle service facilities can't even get distilled water to mix with engine coolant. For some odd reason distilled water is nearly impossible to find. Anyone who knows anything about vehicles knows you use distilled water for everything especially if you live in an area notorious for hard water which will ruin a vehicle's cooling system.

The Thousands trails lifetime membership is an amazing membership. Staying in one area longer is best for saving money but also balance in your health relaxing, driving all the time is very tiring. Thanks for a great video. I am good at a lot of things but budgeting is not one of those things. I decided to attempt the envelope system to start saving for specific things for my adventures. My target is to hit the road in 2023. So I thought it would be good incentive for me to save for specific things like park passes, or breakfast at Cracker Barrel. So far I have saved up enough for a park pass to Burien/White Center and a dumpster dive meal in the back of Cracker Barrel saved up.
    Have you gotten tired of the rain yet? I have. I am heading to Yellowstone tomorrow. Unfortunately I see snow in the forcast for the entire time we will be there😭😭😭😭

    One thing and this will get you better fuel mileage is to drive slower. Find the sweet spot for your van, they are all a little different.
    My Ford Transit gets it best MPG at around 58 mph, Interstate driving I have gotten 22 MPG but never under 20mpg
    So just drive slower and enjoy the savings. Money in your pocket.

    LOVE the idea of thousand trails....however, what if they go out of business? 8K would be lost?

    • @storychasing
      @storychasing  2 года назад +3

      Rhonda W 😊 This is true, but they have been around since 1969 and have over 200 rv parks in their system. I wouldn't get a lifetime membership myself with a newbie company so I feel pretty confident that they will be around for awhile. Things happen and of course they could go out of business, but with over 200 RV Parks (assets) on their books, they would have a lot of assets to sell before declaring bankruptcy and/or receivership of the assets would sell and possibly be able to pay back some of those funds. I haven't seen their books, but 200 RV parks as assets is pretty huge and haven been around for 50 years made me comfortable to purchase a lifetime membership.

    If you pay $600/yr in fees with the lifetime isn’t that the same amount you said you paid yearly without the lifetime?

    • @storychasing
      @storychasing  2 года назад +1

      Kathy Strauss 😊 $600 a year is maintenance but you don't get all of the benefits that comes with the lifetime membership that I have which makes all the difference in planning travel. You can't stay as long either and have to be out for at least 7 days before going to another park. So it's a very big difference in benefit.

    500 dollar budget!!! What are you including? How can anyone live on 500 dollars? Perhaps you mean that's what you have left after you pay all your monthly expenses.

      seekingjoynow 😊 I was talking about gas at the time and not moving as much when I mentioned the $500 budget. I think I should have said my "gas budget" is $500. lol Sorry for the confusion.

    Good tips. We’ve been with TT since 08 and have the coast to coast, 90 days out, 3 week park to park plan. We will be using it a lot once I retire in a few years. Probably one of the smarter things I did 😂 got lucky is more like it.

      The Salty Medic 😊 lol glad you had made that "smarter" choice. 2008 it must have been much cheaper then.
