    Yes! Thank you for this!!! I never do "Tapers" but I do lessen my intensity a week before any big event. Like you said, to each his/her own... you gotta find out what works for you.

      I agree; gotta find what works best for each person. With that said, maybe next event you have, try reducing volume more and keep some of the intensity and see if you notice any difference?

      @@UltraTrailSteven I should have been more clear, I don't race so by "Event" I meant trips. The trips Dan and I take are multiple days of hard riding. But yeah, maybe I will give that a shot. I just don't like changing to much because unlike a race if I screw up I ruin Dan's trip too.

    Thanks man this is perfect timing as I plan out my next 10 weeks of training!

    Great dive into sciency stuff! I'm awful at tapering. I'm never optimally trained to begin with, then I'll either do absolutely nothing for a week, or continue training and just take 2 days off. I'll try some of these tips for my race in 3 weeks!

      yeah give some of the idea a try and see if they help. Good luck in you race!!!

    The mental fatigue is strong. I appreciate your sciencey (spelling) video and the timing of it, at least for me is quite appropriate.

      There’s so many ways to do things “correctly” and so many ways to do things “incorrectly” and it all comes down to what works best for the individual.

    • @UltraTrailSteven

      So true! Everyone is different in how they absorb training, and how their bodies react to training load, so there is no one specific way. We have to experiment to found out which way works best for us!

    Without seeing these studies, i've known that I perform best if I stop running for about a month

    • @UltraTrailSteven
      @UltraTrailSteven  2 года назад

      Stop completely before a race or do you mean a one month taper?

      @@UltraTrailSteven I pretty much stop training and focus on having my feet and legs recover the last 3 weeks before the race. I still stay active and do some casual and brisk walks throughout the week to stay limber but I don't exert myself. A week out from the race, I'll do a couple mile run to completely stretch all the muscles and get everything activated then I wait until the race.
