    If I may add. There’s also a noticeable difference in each faction. Barely anything stays the same between them. Even the basic infantry and resource buildings change depending on what faction you’re playing. Polania has rifleman, Rusviet has shotgunners, and Saxony has sub machine gunners.

    I know a few others pointed it out, but I wanted to clarify that the term "Steampunk" implies a setting with Victorian Era themes (Europe in the late 1800s). Once you start getting into the era of WW1 and WW2, the genre is called "Dieselpunk" because technology is fueled by oil and combustion instead of steam power. They're basically the same genre, just in different time periods!

      I would still contend steampunk is somewhat of a valid way to describe Iron Harvest. The WW1 time period kind of straddles the 19th and 20th centuries, at least culturally/technologically.

    Another note on defenses like barbed wire and sandbags. They can be trampled and instantly destroyed by mechs or shot to pieces by enemy canons. The game is truly phenomenal. Honestly, world's better than trashy, tacky, restrictive Halo Wars 2. Definitely far better story and lore with far, far richer character depth of the story characters. Multiple factions with distinctly different units even if the same class with some having specific functional alterations such as Polania's mobile mortar mech that doubles as a turret box for infantry types, while no other faction has that. Meanwhile, Usonia has strong air power slightly moreso than the rest. Rusviet has great affordable melee mechs in general, but have overall higher oil costs across the board.

      @twiglets2  2 года назад

      Hello, I hope you found the review useful! C&C and BFME2 are quite different to Iron Harvest. The game is more like Company of Heroes if you've played that before? Less base building and more concentrating on fighting. I guess you could say it's similar to BFME 2 in that respect as that game only had one resource so you could concentrate on fighting.
      It's difficult to say for sure, but Iron Harvest does have a decent story with good cut scenes, so if you like an RTS campaign that will be a good reason to get the game. Whether you will long the multiplayer, I'm not so sure. Maybe check out some more detailed videos of multiplayer matches to see if you like the look of them. You basically run around capturing flags a lot and engaging the enemy from cover. I hope tha thelps!

      Thank you - I hope you found the video useful! There's nothing exactly like that, though some of the bigger units have long range and big guns, I wouldn't describe those as your typical artillery. • @twiglets2
      @twiglets2  2 года назад

      Hey Das Institut, Iron Harvest is the same as Company of Heroes in a number of ways, this is most evident in the skirmish mode for example:
      - Infantry are grouped into squads, and those squads use cover in the same way as CoH.
      - Pressing G to command certain squads to throw a grenade to a certain area (and other such similar commands).
      - Pressing R for a squad to retreat back to your base, then replenishing the lost squad members in the same way as CoH.
      - The resources work in the same way, capturing points across the map (in the same way) to generate these resources.
      - Building the base, or lack of, and the base defenses are also very similar.
      I could list more, but it would take a long time to list everything!
      Much of this carries over to the campaign, where there are other similarities, but of course many of those are simply because both games are RTS games!
      None of this is a good or a bad thing in my opinion (it depends how much you like CoH!) I think it fair (and useful) to describe Iron Harvest as very similar to CoH to a new player to give them an initial understanding of what to expect. The 90% wasn't exact, of course, and I won't pretend to be the first person to identify these similarities.
      Sadly I haven't played C&C for years, but will happily take your word on that.

    I played the campaign up to the last mission. while visually it's good the gameplay is sluggish.
    in this game artillery is really the King. with the hard hitting Mechs and heavy weapon units all walk in snail pace, attacking an entrenced enemy position that has artillery units defending it is turning the game into an attrition. Also in firefights infantry units become almost irrelevant mid-game as the anti infantry mechs just eliminate them easily (even anti-mech infantry don't fare much better).
    so in short, infantry units are beaten by anti infantry mechs, anti infantry mechs are beaten by anti mech mechs, anti mech mechs are beaten by artillery mechs, and everyone is beaten by superheavy mechs (but these are not cheap to field) .

    What I don't get is how they miss out a British faction when they did most to win the war in the first place. Or even a French one would have been good. But Polish? I can only imagine the developers were Polish and maybe that's why they added it.

    • @Steleco
      @Steleco 2 года назад

      English did most to win? Seriously?
      I advise you to find out a little, to look at some statistics (if only the number of soldiers present on the front throughout the conflict), to see who was the commander-in-chief of the allies and what belligerent power had soldiers in France as well as in Italy or in the Balkans (and in Istanbul, Syria ans Russia in 1918-1919).. it's not the UK.
      As much as we can salute the heroic resistance of Great Britain during WW2 which fought the Axis alone for almost a year (without the Americans, we often forget), it is France which largely carried the essence of the war effort during the WWI (if we put aside the Russian case made more complex because of the Revolution). British and Americans forget it too quickly by dint of playing Battlefield and developing a navel-gazing cinema.

      Yes, there are three factions in the base game and an additional one in the Operation Eagle DLC. That's a shame they've included such an OP unit, I've not tried that myself but will give it a go.

    Funnily enough, this game isn't for me at all. I haven't even finished the base campaign (stuck at the end of the third one). I already was struggling with Dawn of War 1, but this just takes the cake, even on easy mode. And i'm not even a bad RTS player but this style of game is just...nope, not for me.
    That said and done...I still own the fancy-pantsy version of this game were you not only got the game, but also every DLC that will ever be released. Was like 70-80€ on release I believe. And I still consider it worth it, simply because IH is from KingArts, who are responsable for one of favorite games of all time, Book of Unwritten Tales (1&2). So everyone buying the game just raises my hopes, that eventually they will find the funds to make a third part of that :D

      I hope KingArts see how nice you're being about them! Just out of curiosity do you enjoy Company of Heroes? The games are so similar it would be interesting to know if you dislike both, or like one and not the other?
      I'm not sure this would get into my top 10 RTS games, but it all comes down to personal preference. Some people love it and I can totally see why.
