Just now finding these videos. Where were you in 2006? You covered every thing i figured out by trial and error back then. I'm sharing your information with friends. Newly subscribed. Thanks
Yeah, I have been playing against myself to work on accuracy and throw velocity, it's a real challenge. Your videos have been a great help and I go back to them to refresh my thinking. Looking forward to going out to Harrah's on Saturday to watch the ACL Bag Brawl. Are you competing?
Hi Patrick, unfortunately no - I'm in Colorado for the summer now. Would be a blast to test myself against so many good players though! Glad you're finding the videos helpful!
I was wondering if there were any actual cornhole instructional videos. Yes, there are. I figured there would be. I just checked and there are tiddlywink instructional videos and also videos for the game pick-up-jacks too.
Man, that's a tough ask Caleb lol. Pretty hard to curve one without some wind. Flop shots are essentially a result of the type of bag you play with. Some of the fatter, stickier ones will have more of a tendency to flop over if you're looking to bounce one.
Joe2Jock Joe2Jock I don’t really know how to do it I just know it’s possible. I’ve played against people who simply curve it around my blocks or just bounce/flop over it. Never even needing to throw the airmail. When I was beginning I thought it was all luck but I’ve since learned it’s a practiced shot. There’s videos of Ryan Windsor consistently throwing them on RUclips but I don’t know how he does it. Search “curveball cornhole” should be the first video.
The "curving" video is not actually curving the bag. He just uses spin from the bag to direct it. Same principle as a good ball. Enough side spin will move the bag to the side after it hits the board. For golf, enough back spin will make the ball come back toward you a little.
Love your videos. Definitely the best on RUclips. Quick question: in leagues and tournaments, do you recommend putting up blockers after you get say a 3pt or more lead, or just keep gunning for the hole? Thanks!
Great question. I think it depends on the level of your opponent, their normal playing style (slider or lobber) and how confident you are that you'll keep holing bags. If I jumped out to an early lead on someone who I thought was likely to outplay me most of the time I MIGHT be inclined to play blockers and make it tough on them to score, especially if they're the type that likes to slide the bags in. Maybe even just bring my height up a little bit to make sure if I miss it's short and in front of the hole instead of long. But if I felt good and felt I was throwing better I would keep my foot on the gas and keep trying to hole bags.
Joe2Jock yeah I played this guy Monday who was on fire. I was down 6-1 a few times and didn’t know if I should try to put a blocker up or hole them to keep up with him. He should’ve been playing in the higher league. It was a case of he was on fire and I was off. Lol. I just need to practice blockers more, so I have those when my hole shot is off. Do you aim at the hole or middle of the board for your slide hole shot?
@@michaelminnie8925 Haha, yeah that would be tough to overcome for almost any player! As for what I look at - I personally look at the hole, or more specifically left center of the hole on the left side, and right center of the hole on the right. Since my arm is never directly in line with the center of the board, the bag will lightly slide right when you throw from the left and left when you throw from the right because the board is tilted (moreso with fast bags / slick boards because the bag slides farther). It's honestly not much, but if you are way out at the outside edge of the box on the right side it SHOULD slide left more when it hits and vice versa. That's probably way overthinking it, but I suppose that's why I make videos haha - I try to think of every fundamental that affects a game or sport. But, short answer - I look at the hole for holer shots and I look at the spot on the board where I want my blocker when I throw those.
Joe2Jock Good advice as far as aiming left or right a little. I throw a line drive back, so I think I’m going to switch to aiming towards the middle of the board until I get my shots up. I practiced 10 rds earlier w both aiming options and kept more on while aiming at the center. Also like the idea of it coming up short and being an unplanned blocker or a push shot vs line driving it off the back lol. Thanks again!!
Fun stuff. Great work and no, a 3-camera set up is not overkill. Maybe add a drone view or arc-tracer technology? Haha. Seriously, though, did you make that board yourself?

I recently beat my mentor for the first time. started playing 2 years ago. joined a league 6 months ago. played with the guy several times and we were always a good team. but every time i would play him in singles he would beat me. but i finally got it done
Hi mike n. I've been playing with the Ultra Vipers and Black Widows. I like both quite a bit. I've also got a set of Reynolds Pro X that are pretty good. The Vipers just seem to crawl into the hole so well, but your throw has to be on point because they are pretty floppy. The Game Changer gets a lot of love as well. I'd honestly try the Reynolds if you want something in the $50 range, Ultras if you don't mind doubling that.
I’m a brand new player , but going into this seriously, what bags should I buy? Iv only played with cheap bags , and want to try something with a “ slick & stick “ sides but don’t want to go over board. What bags are the orange and white ones you used?

Hi MrCreek15, have you watched the Beginner Cornhole video I posted? If so, and you're still having trouble, tell me a few things. How are they flying? Are they nose up or nose down? Are they tilted too much to the side? Or are they inconsistent? Throwing a perfectly flat bag is not paramount to playing great cornhole, but throwing a CONSISTENT bag is. If you'll notice in the video many of mine were flying slightly nose down and tilted a tiny bit left. As long as I'm in a controlled environment (inside or not in wind) that's fine. I just want a comfortable and consistent throw. If I'm trying to think about my mechanics I can't throw the bag without tension, much like swinging a golf club or shooting free throws, etc. If you can tell me more about how they're flying I might be able to help with technique to practice, and if you send me an email at satherton@joe2jock.com I can have you download an app that will let you send me a video. I'm sure I can help!
Hi yvan, how much do you think you'll play? Do you plan on playing mostly games in the back yard, BBQ etc or do you want to try to play tournaments? If it's the back yard type I would get something like this for $50 / 8 bags. www.slickwoodys.com/collections/cornhole-bags/products/all-weather-resin-filled-pro-cornhole-bags If you're hoping to play some tournaments then the options are really endless, but you'd be looking at closer to $50 for a set of 4 bags, and you'd want to try several kinds to find ones that fit your throwing style - slider, higher lob, blocker, etc. Personally I just got a set of Reynolds Pro X bags that I like, and you can order those in sets of 4. Most ACL pros have a few sets with different characteristics for different boards. The AllCornhole Game Changers get rave reviews as well.
I should add that regardless of tournament play or not, I would find bags that are resin filled so they do better in damp conditions and last a bit longer, and I would always get the stick and slide bags that have one faster side and one sticky side. Once you play with that type of bag you'll never go back to full canvas bags.
It would be 3 for you and 1 for them (net two points for you) at that point in the round assuming theirs stayed on the board when they pushed yours in. It never matters who threw the bag. Only matters whose bags are in or on at the end of the round.
Couple ideas. There are actual airmail "boxes" you can buy or build that help you practice those. Also you could place a small basket or a pot that is slightly bigger around than the 6" cornhole on the ground and work on tossing them in that first. Start a couple steps closer, see how many out of 10 you can make. Then move back.
Where, did you get those bags from, that have the sticky side to them? American Corn Hole Association site doesn't even have em. I got a tournament May 4th
Hi Matthew. Take a look at www.bgboards.com They have a few sets that are ACL approved. I have the Tailgators and like them a lot. They also have a more budget friendly set called the BG Pro Classic which has sticky / slick sides. They are not ACL approved for tournaments though.
@@Joe2Jock looks like they've changed it to bgcornhole.com although I'd also check out Reynolds and AllCornhole as those are two of the top companies nowadays.
Eh, two throws. You can see the orange one that was in my hand is on the ground back right of the board. The next one was the throw you see. I wasn't real happy with that throw either and would have preferred to pull them both in, but that's what the practice is for!

Joe2Jock my issue is I’m left handed and my bags curve and my bags flip in the air, so you have a technique to throw flatter bags?
Good strategy. Give us more. Lol.
looks like a backyard in arizona.
Surprising youre throwing onto rocks
That it is! Probably wouldn't be throwing my Ultra Vipers out there, but the other bags just tend to soften up a bit. Pretty small rock in my yard :-)
@@Joe2Jock i gotchu playa - good vid; learning a thing or two
where do you get your bags?
My current set is from www.bgboards.com
I have the skill to go pro I just need more practice
ha. you and about 3M other guys in their backyards.
Great video, but at 6:30 you can tell it took a few tries.
Eh, two throws. You can see the orange one that was in my hand is on the ground back right of the board. The next one was the throw you see. I wasn't real happy with that throw either and would have preferred to pull them both in, but that's what the practice is for!
Joe2Jock, yea. That was my point exactly.
This being a recommended video only proves how useless I’ve been during a pandemic
Intermediate corn hole..say that three times...really quite silly.
I think it’s hilarious that anyone has put this much thought into this game.
I think it’s hilarious that you are so quick to think you’re better than others online
The Real Jar I think it’s hilarious that you think that I think I’m better than anyone. Nothing I said implied that.
I think it’s hilarious that you don’t think that you think that you think that
The Real Jar I think that it’s extra hilarious that you think that I don’t think that I think that I think that.
It’s the funniest thing in the world that you think that I really think that you don’t think that you think that you think that. Some people.
