I LOVE IT !!! People don't understand people have their own personal style and they need a piece to fit into the things they love. This looks a THOUSAND TIMES BETTER with A.S old white. LOVE IT !!!! More important the person who OWNS IT LOVES IT NOW !!!!
That’s awesome! I’d DEFINITELY add some more subtle definition on the mane, ears, eyes tail, harness and dressings!!! That can be done ANY time EASILY with a gray wax. I see how it may be an eye sore BUT if you plan on selling to an antique dealer, keep it original. If you plan on KEEPING it for your own happiness, definitely change the color to blend BUT make a subtle statement in your OWN home!! I love it! Great job guys Side note! He was probably SO EXCITED about this project that he had the greatest interview of his life!
I prefer the original color, but my question is if you just want a white horse, why do you need to bother to look for a person to paint it for you? You can just do it by yourself!
I agree with the others that it looked better before. But I'm not even sure that this is a real, let alone antique, carousel horse. It IS pretty and I like it, but if real it's almost certainly not American. The style is not like any maker I know of (and believe me, I know a lot of them!). The saddle makes me think it might be Mexican, but they're usually very small and this is a large horse. Anyway, whatever it is I'm just glad it has a home and isn't being scrapped. It's a lovely piece.
It is indeed a reproduction horse,It most definitely is not English or European, but many carvers in the Philippines turn these out, it is definitely one of the better repro makers. Just because someone's granny owned something does not mean it is old...one sees repro rocking horses all the time with ''my grandad owned it'' and it is a modern copy made in last few years.
I am also horrified by the white and gray horse. I have a sanded rocking horse that I would love to fill with color. I also have a rocking horse that I bought in an antique store don't know anything about it, year or origination
What The HELLLLLL??? Who in their right minded does THAT to an antique carousel horse????? You should have sold it & if you wanted a white & gray BLOB you could have done that to a reproduction!!! Shows that neither one of you knew what you were doing OMGGGGG
That looks awful. You might just as well set fire to it. A Carousel horse is thing of beauty. An item that has brought joy to countless generations and you've destroyed it. What the hell were thinking? I would have packed the girl friends belongings and changed the locks before I'd committed such vandalism.
Repro item, luckily, but tragically genuine antique horses get wrecked by amateur ''restorers'' , and had a horse had original paint, schlepping new paint over it would wipe so much of the value away.
I would have thought it was pretty had I not seen the before....the before was stunning!

Horrible! The antique carousel horse looked better before! Now it needs some professional restoration by specialists who know what they are doing.
Agree completely!
It is a reproduction horse, not a valuable antique one, but still good for a repro.

wreck anything with Annie Sloan

Keep the horse, drop the girlfriend.
Why not remove the varnish and old paint before doing this?

Help anyone, someone one please
Well I liked it better before, but that's my style. If it makes his girlfriend happy, maybe it's worth it to them.

This is a reproduction, it is not an authentic carousel horse, rest assured.
You should tell your girlfriend to get lost.
I don't care for how staged these are.
They ruined a beautiful horse, it was much nicer before
This was painful to watch :(
No dark wax shading or adding some crackle to it? Hmmmm...
Noooooo!!!!

What do you think of Mehdi's "new" antique carousel horse?
Personal Preference: I liked the old look much better. It had style and nuances galore. But to each his own, I guess.
Looks cheap afterwards... should have been slightly dappled and antiqued...
if they ever do this to an actual old horse ... ..
You just ruined a nice antique.

ohhh noooo needs some punch of color...looks so sad :(
Tragic
This "music" is so annoying, I'm out of here.
Awful....
