You have one of the most beautiful, most peaceful channels on youtube. I love your drawings on nature and poetry that flows from the heart. God bless from Southern Michigan (U.S.A.).
Such a privilege to see close ups of a woodpecker. Thanks Vanessa for all the attention to detail that goes towards giving us such enjoyable filming and gorgeous music.
Been busy the last couple of weeks and didn’t get the opportunity to say how comforting it is to know that your going to be with us for at least another four years, and that it means so much to so many people who absolutely love your wonderful videos and the time, care and attention you put into them, even when your in your boat on the worst stormy days and it can’t be easy we would just like you to know that we are thinking about you and that all your videos are very much appreciated.Thank you
Steve that is such a kind and lovely thing to say and it really means a lot to me!☺️ I am so lucky to have such wonderful viewers like yourself and it is an absolute pleasure to make the vlogs and know that people enjoy them. Thank you so much! Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Your filming of the wildlife & nature, sketches & poetry is so relaxing, you definitely make the world a better place. I enjoyed Robbie Cummings on the BBC with Canal Boat Diaries I think they'd be on a winner with you Vanessa & Zephyr. Having only discovered your channel this week yours is no. 1.
Michael, what a lovely thing to say and I am so pleased that you are enjoying the videos. It really means a lot to me to get feedback like this, so thank you so much for taking the time to comment. Have a super Friday and weekend ahead!🦋🌻
Thanks for another beautiful video Vanessa. You bring so much beauty into your vlogs - I love your gardens. It was amazing to see the crow chasing the raven. ... I could go on and on!!
Hi Ruth, thank you for such a lovely comment; I really appreciate your kindness about the vlogs and I’m so glad that you enjoy them. Have a super week 🌻🦋

Thank you so much for all of your support, John! I can't quite believe the channel has 4,000 subscribers and what an utterly lovely bunch of subscribers they are! Your poem has just made my day.😊 Have a super rest of the week. 🥳🌻🌻🦋🦋
A special message for Zephyr: you don't need to get your mom (mum?) to buy you a book on getting famous... you're our animal celebrity already! 😉 Thanks Vanessa for another peaceful passage through the English waterways...
I grew up in Nottinghamshire and I believe you spotted me as you looked twice and I winked. I was the handsome one and you were the pretty one and down the river you went. Made me home sick sweetheart. Lovely video.
What a lovely river trip on the Trent. That woodpecker chick was beautifully observed. Love your poem and drawing of the woodpecker. Have a great weekend. Take care. Nick
Thank you so much, Nick for your lovely comment. I have popped over to your super channel and I have a question for you. On my roof, I have tumbling tomatoes growing, but should I be pricking them out ( is it called that? I hope so!) What does this actually entail? I hope you don't mind my questions but as I have an expert viewer, I just couldn't let the opportunity of picking your brains go amiss. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋🍅🍅🍅
@@themindfulnarrowboat - Hi Vanessa. Thanks very much for checking out my channel. That’s so kind of you. Normally pricking out refers to taking small seedlings and putting them into a pot or the ground. Do you perhaps mean do tumbling tomatoes need to have the side shoots removed. Cordon tomatoes (plants that are kept to a single stem need the side shoots removing to grow a good crop but you don’t need to do that with tumbling tomatoes. They naturally stay bushy but compact so are ideal to grow in pots or troughs. Sorry if I’ve got the wrong end of the stick with your question though 😃🍅 Have a lovely weekend. Take care. Nick
Thank you so much, Nick for your brilliant explanation and I am over the moon at not having to take the side shoots off!🤩 Have a super Sunday and rest of the week. 🌻🦋
Hi Clare, thank you so much for your lovely comment. It's a small miracle that anything is growing in the boat garden, but I am going to enjoy it while it lasts. Take care and have a super week.🌻🦋
Hi Indi! That little woodpecker chick was just such a funny, little character and you could hear it from the other end of the wood. The female was working so hard to keep it happy and well fed, but it just kept on calling her for more and more food. Brilliant! Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Really loved this vlog Vanessa. The roof garden is coming on very well and the flowers at the front look amazing, fender too 👍. The music was very fitting with the video, clever choice. Beautifully edited, well done and thank you
Hi Paul, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I can’t quite believe the garden is all still alive and well, but I am so happy with it. I am so pleased that you enjoyed the vlog. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week.🌻🦋
Hi Amy, it’s great to know that you watch every week- thank you so much for that!😊 Your grandad lives in a lovely part of the world. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week!🦋🌻
Hi Ross, thank you so much for your lovey comment! I am well chuffed and well surprised that my garden is alive and growing.😊😮 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
What skill or observational know-how or knack to spot bird nests with ease and get great footage have you mastered???? And mastered it you have indeed. I have watched narrowboat videos from the buffet you-tube has for almost 3 years. Most every, narrowboat video usually has a duck/goose/swan shot/footage. I used to always never see a shot of a bird's nest they found a day or two after mooring up and got great footage of. Then you come along and do it well and often. I can only say thank you.
Peter, you are so welcome and thank you for such a lovely comment. I am so pleased that you enjoy the wildlife shots as it's an absolute pleasure filming them. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa, thank you for your lovely comment! I use a company called Envato Elements which has a great range of music for a annual subscription fee. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week.🦋🌻
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment. It is wonderful to know how much you enjoy the vlogs and it is a pleasure making them for viewers like yourself. Have a super rest of the week.🌻🦋
Hi Christine, I was so sad to leave the woodpecker behind as I went to visit it every day whilst I was moored there, but at a distance, so I didn't disturb it. Such a little character, tucked up in a hole in the tree! Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
daveyboy, I am so sad to hear that you had a bad week. I really hope that next week is much better for you. Thank you for your kindness in still finding the time to comment. Take care🌻🦋
Well, well,AFloating Chelsea flower show, on a beautiful candle boat. Crows, swans, relaxing music 🎶 poetry in motion, then a mention of stone work, (my line of work),Another Friday night sorted Vanessa. Time for the red wine 🍷 😋. Many thanks for posting. Kind regards Mike. Norfolk.
Thank you for your lovely comment, Mike! I bet you enjoyed the stone work then; it was spectacular to see in the middle of the city like that. Enjoy your red wine and have a super weekend!🍷🌻🦋
I’m just in awe of your spectacular garden, the many views you gave us just left me breathless. I think it must be very clever juxtaposition, which I’m still learning about. Nevertheless, between your music, art, and the artwork of your plantings it makes for a magical and calming mix. I fell asleep to you last night😊 Thank you.❤️🇨🇦
Wow this vlog was undeniably a very brilliant.totally interesting.I was truly captivated by the amazing wildlife contents throughout.just so phenomenal.I certainly enjoyed listening about the absolutely splendid history of these different locations along the canal system.so amazingly intriguing to actually learn more about such awesome facts.your so very educationally astute.I’m curious to know.the approximate length of your narrowboat.from its bow to the stern.in the future would you be having your Alice grace’s hull blacked and the anodes replaced.if needed on the dry dock.also do you have bow thrusters fitted.your definitely carrying out a lovely tracing of a daisy.I’m waiting in anticipation of your painting that will eventually adorn the side of your narrowboat.did the both of you go on a helmsman’s course.before you started continuously cruising.I truly think that your so very imaginative.when your skilfully capturing the true to life woodpecker drawing in your journal.your artwork technique is very striking.certainly meticulously hand drawn to absolute stunning perfection.that was a brilliant video of the great spotted woodpecker chick.the red patch on its head.are only present on females woodpeckers.have you or mr mindful ever fallen into the canal at any point since living onboard . Would the both of go swimming in the canal.or is that not a good idea.I like your beautiful bow deck garden.with those brightly coloured annuals flowering.that all look so amazing.especially the white marguerites.the kitchen hebe garden on the roof.looks splendid and very functional.your stern buffer plants are growing great.those sailing boats on the river Trent.we’re giving your narrowboat such a near miss .it looked most scary to say the least.I liked watching the picturesque meadows as you were cruising the canal.the sunshine warming up the soil.wildflowers start flourishing.catching the nutrients from the sun.for there sustainable growth.then start to flower in abundance all summer long. Thank you for sharing this wonderful vlog.have a lovely cruising weekend and week ahead.Anthony.
Wow, Anthony, what an amazing comment- thank you so much! My boat is 60ft, it is due to be blacked and with new anodes, next year. It was really nerve racking when the sailing boats came speeding towards us but they expertly steered their boats passed us. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week 🦋🌻
Wonderful garden, bow and roof, and a lovely woodpecker chick captured in your journal. Carol just said you’re her favourite vlog! Your videos just get better and better. We started our continuous cruising life today, when Liberty went back on the Lancaster canal. It’s been a hard couple of months getting her ready for our life on the move, so today we’ve just been chilling out and walking Tilly along the towpath. Time this evening for a glass of wine and a nice meal on the water. Looking forward to your next one, V, Mr.M and sweet Z xox
How wonderful it must feel to know that your continuous cruising life is beginning! I am so pleased for you all. I am also completely chuffed to be Carol's favourite vlog! Enjoy the rest of your evening, planning some amazing narrowboating adventures and I'm sure we will meet on the cut one day. Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋🍷
As always love the video. so well put together. The crow was chasing the heron out of its territory. Must have had a nest somewhere close. Crows and Ravens are among the most intelligent animals on earth and my favorite birds.
Hi Francis, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I agree with you about the corvids- such intelligent and beautiful birds! Have a super Sunday and rest of the week. 🌻🦋
We have jackdaws and they hang around with the rooks. Then we have crows and the increasingly rare to spot ravens. There are a few more corvids too here, do you have these too?
Another beautiful vlog. Nottingham is a really interesting place, I didn’t know there was a Kitty Cafe there, I’ve put it on my bucket list of places to visit. I was more than surprised to see the boat you went through Neil’s lock was called Phyllis May because that was my Mum’s name, you rarely hear the name Phyllis but to see a boat with both of her Christian names brought a lump to my throat. Your bow garden and roof allotment are beautiful your plants are way ahead of my garden plants. The wildlife shots were fantastic especially the woodpecker and it’s young. Your poetry is lovely and so is your artwork. Safe travels Vanessa, Zephyr and Mr Mindful. I’m looking forward to seeing your travels on the Chesterfield, my daughter lives next to it at Rotherham. xxxx
Hi Shirley, I hope you are both well? Thank you so much for your lovely comment and what a beautiful coincidence about Phyllis May! If your daughter is walking along the canal and spots us, tell her to say 'hello'. Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Another totally relaxing episode. Your garden is so wonderful, you must do something about how you made it so outstandingly fabulous. And you woodpecker sequence is the best I have ever seen. They must have responded to your calming aura!!
Hello Orchid House, thank you so much for your lovely comment. I really don't know how my garden has turned out like that? I think that plants just love travelling and the boat way of life!😆 I am so pleased that you enjoyed the woodpecker chick; it was such a little character and I was sad to say goodbye. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa what a lovely video. You always make it so interesting. The views are beautiful. Zephyr is a lovely dog anyway handsome. Just planted my runner beans and sweat peas. We have only a patio so it’s restricted as we share with 5 people in our block of flats Ugg!!!! Have great week. 👌
Hi Sandy, thank you for your lovely comment. How exciting to be planting runner beans and sweat peas! I hope they grow well for you. Are you able to hang baskets outside your windows too? Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Another beautiful cruise, thank you 😊. Baby woodpecker 🥰😍, love all your paintings 😍How do manage to steer the boat, And take such beautiful videos 😁😊🥰
Thank you so much for your lovely comment and I am so pleased that you enjoyed the woodpecker- such a funny, little character wasn't it? Good question about the filming and the driving: when I drive, I have my phone set up on a tripod and a go pro at the bow (which I stick in one of my plant pots) and then when my husband drives, I run up and down the boat and hang out the sides with my camera to get some more interesting shots. Have a super weekend. Take care🦋🌻
Thank you, Helen! I hope you are well following your operation. I'm heading over to your channel this evening to do some vlog catch up. Have a super rest of the weekend.🌻🦋
Thanks for a lovely cruise that has been a great chill for me as usual but I'm a bit jealous of your boat garden as I thought mine was doing well with tiny little green strawberries that appeared this week, lol. As usual I love your art work and poem diary at the end but I can't wait for the final touch of your boat emblem. Take care and all the best. Stevie
Hi Stevie, it is so exciting to have strawberries appearing, isn't it! 🍓 Don't be too envious as I only have a small crop- definitely not enough to supply Wimbledon this year! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Not Boots bridge that’s a road bridge leading to the front of the factory. A truly beautiful video, have you ever thought of having your diary put into print?I for one would buy it. Pure inspiration. Thank You.
Whoops, did I name the bridge incorrectly?😬 Sorry about that! Thank you so much for your kind words about my journal. I am currently putting together this year's journal which I hope to publish. This was because other viewers had asked the same thing, so I thought I would try it. 🤞 Have a super weekend, Michael!🌻🦋
Thank you so much, Richard for your encouragement! The crow at the beginning, on the bridge, used to wait every day for a lady who came to feed the birds. She told my daughter that the crow followed her along the path and then would fly ahead and wait for her at the bridge 🥰! Amazing creatures. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week.🦋🌻
Hi Vann, I'm often puzzled as to why the entrances to marinas are so darned narrow. Daisy is looking really nice. Thank you for the lovely journey. I'm feeling better now.
John, I am so glad to hear that you are feeling better. I think the marina entrances are so narrow so they can put a stop lock easily across them if there is a canal breach? That way they will keep the water in for all the moored boats inside, or they just like the entertainment of watching boats trying to get in! 🤣 Thank you for your lovely comment. Have a super rest of the weekend.🌻🦋
Hello Vanessa - greetings from Poland. Congratulations on the wonderful bowdeck garden and the roof allotment. You've reminded me of The Good Life, this time afloat. A fantastic video, thanks so much for posting it. The cruise from Beeston down onto the River Trent was very exciting especially with Lockie Neil's help and attention. Your camera work and commentary was brilliant. So much to see and learn about. Stay safe please and I'll see you in a weeks time.
Hello Michael from Poland! I hope you have had a good week teaching? I used to love watching The Good Life and now that you have compared me to it, I really ought to get a pig, goat and cow! 🤣🐷🐐🐄 Lockie Neil was just brilliant! When you meet people like that as you travel, it just makes you feel good about the world. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend!🌻🦋
Great chatting with you guys and thank you for your get well wishes. The arm is fine it’s the clavicle that still needs to get complete healed, but we’re getting there. So envious of your well deck garden and roof top allotment. Ours is not a patch on yours but give it time 👍
Hi Watts Onboard! Thank you so much for your lovely comment. It was lovely to meet you too. It will be great to see your narrowboat garden flourish; we can share tips, or perhaps have a 'who can grow the biggest tomato competition!'🍅 Have a super weekend.🦋🌻
I am so pleased that you are finding my videos relaxing and calming; it is lovely to know that they are coming across like that. Have a wonderful rest of the weekend and week ahead, take care🦋🌻
Another well presented vlog Vanessa 👍. Is there a reason why marina entrances are very narrow which makes it hard to manoeuvre in and out? You have a wonderful array of colours in ur on board gardens🌺🥀💐🌿, how fast they grow with a down pour of rain and sun. I can't wait to see the finished daisy 😄. Have a lovely weekend 🦆🌸🪴🦋
Hi Simon, I think that marina entrances have to be small enough to place a stop lock in case there is a sudden breach in the canal so that they can prevent water loss for the boats moored in the marina. Thank you so much for your lovely comment about the garden; the rain showers and sun that we have been having has been ideal for them. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
Hi Vanessa, your garden looks stunning and your veg on the roof is growing nicely as well your tomatoes are so big my tomatoes are still in flower, what a beautiful river hope you had your life jacket on and do you carry a Anchor with you ,it look so strange at time see you sitting there alone but you husband is just a few feet from you is his name Neil, the woodpecker was very noisy calling for more food I guess ,till next time take care keep yourself safe.John 🌹👀💕😆🤞🦮🍀🌻🌼🪺🪺
Hi John, thank you so much for your lovely comments once again! 👍😊 I do have the anchor ready now that I’m on the river and fortunately so far we have never had to use it on any of the rivers that we’ve been on. My husband isn’t called Neil; Neil was the lock keeper. I know it must seem strange not being able to see Mr Mindful, but he really doesn’t want to be on social media so I respect his wishes. Have a super Sunday and rest of the week 🦋🌻
I always enjoy watching other people’s methods of creating works of art .l had to resist making any remarks as this would compromise your individuality which of course is what art is all about.looking forward to seeing your work unfold .
Hi Tony, please make the arty comments; I need all the help I can get! I really am making it up as I go along, so don't be worried about offering some pointers. 🎨 Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat OK here goes-diagonals ,great way of cantering your subject.Stencils -a great way of reproducing a shape .Colour coordination you can do that anyway so in summation l hope this gives you a confidence boost!
Thank you, Andrew. The garden is looking a bit sad at the moment, so I will get out there this week and see what I can do. Have a fab Friday, take care🌻🦋
Hi vanessa thank you for your consern about my health i am ok now it was my second booster . What stuning views and nottingham one must visit this beautiful town. Who needs to be famous zepher is allready a star lovley garden you have . I love gardening till then blessings and good health
Oh Alice Grace you looked quite spectacular in your summer bonnet.. worthy of being on the front of a postcard Vanessa? AH Robin Hood...Richard Greene being my all time favourite handsome hero...nobody since has compared. I was born in Lincolnshire before moving to Oz when I was 7 yrs old.... Thanks for another great vlog Vanessa thankyou...btw still waiting for that address if you would...
Hi Jenny, that must have been a big moment in your life to move to the other side of the world at seven. How did you cope with the change? Thank you for your lovely comment too. 🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat weeeeell I did have a little help..thought I would take my parents along and let them do the hard yards - actually I had no say in the matter :) ..but honestly I dont really remember much about it. I have this brain where once somethings been done and is irrelevant to my future I just forget it..dont know why, have always been the same. One of my mottos has always been "never go back.." so I dont. I just take everything as it comes one day at a time...I live in the now. Happy meanerings and love to Mr M
I fell in love with the woodpecker chick - so gutsy and demanding and rightly so. And the images of the heron and crow flying together were lovely. There is indeed goodness everywhere if we look, and so easy to get drawn into focusing on the darker side of human behavior. Thanks again Vanessa for a beautiful tour and the gorgeous blue flowers on the bow of Alice Grace :)
Hi Wendy, thank you so much for your lovely comment! That certainly was a gutsy woodpecker chick and so successful at getting its mum to keep it well fed. I was sad to say goodbye to it when I left. I agree with you about celebrating the wonderful human beings in the world. Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
He tried to catch a fish, but I think it was already dead and floating on the water. His lady love would have appreciated it though; she is a crow after all! Thank you for watching. Take care🌻🦋
I'll buy whoever can tell me what type of motor cruiser that was moored outside the marina in Nottingham a pint ! Its a lovely stretch of river between Nottingham and Newark, very under rated in my opinion.
Hi Garry, I hope someone can help you with that motor cruiser question as I have no idea, but it was lovely wasn't it? I agree with you about this stretch of water; it's absolutely stunning and so quiet. Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Have a super weekend.🦋🌻
Let's put a Ship on wheels to drive on land but still float on water if need be also turn it into a mini appt/bunker/home with it own mini wind/solar power plant , a way to get and use rain water for baths/toilets/cooking this way you have a appt/bunker/home that can handle the extreme cold/heat/floods/fires/mud/bad ppl/traffic on the roads/water ways + save money on gas/bus/trains/planes/cars/food/motel/hotel when you live full time/travel in your new Ship/appt/bunker/home on wheels that moves on land/floats on water to see your family on the Holly days ever year for fun and safety of the family in the U S A /UK/ EU I say if you can then let's do that for every on in the whole World

Great cruise and a well made film like your book with the drawings 😊
Thank you so much for such a lovely comment! Have a super weekend.🌻🦋
I’m just in awe of your spectacular garden, the many views you gave us just left me breathless. I think it must be very clever juxtaposition, which I’m still learning about. Nevertheless, between your music, art, and the artwork of your plantings it makes for a magical and calming mix. I fell asleep to you last night😊 Thank you.❤️🇨🇦
Hi Jan, it is so lovely to know that you find the vlogs relaxing. They are a pleasure to make. Thank you so much for your kind words. Take care🦋🌻
@@themindfulnarrowboat You have a corvid called a Jack Daw in England? Are they similar to a crow?
We have jackdaws and they hang around with the rooks. Then we have crows and the increasingly rare to spot ravens. There are a few more corvids too here, do you have these too?
@@themindfulnarrowboat We have crows ravens magpies. Rare sightings of Jackdaws and rooks have been reported. Oddly Jays are in the corvid family.
Lovely shots of the young woodpecker.
It was so special to see it.Thank you for your lovely comment. Take care 🌻🦋
Take care🦋🌻
Your garden is looking beautiful. Love the colours.😊
I need to get into my garden now that spring is on the way again. Thank you for your kindness! Take care🌻🦋
Love the woodpecker !
Thank you, Helen! I hope you are well following your operation. I'm heading over to your channel this evening to do some vlog catch up. Have a super rest of the weekend.🌻🦋
@@themindfulnarrowboat aww how kind xx I’ve been quite poorly but feeling great now xx
@@themindfulnarrowboat Hooray!! So pleased to hear you're thinking of publishing your journal! BTW, lovely footage of crows!! 😁💚💚💚
@@themindfulnarrowboat haha, I don’t think we would stand a chance competing with you guys… yet. Maybe next year though 😂🤣😂
Your videos are beautiful and so calming.
@@themindfulnarrowboat I apologise for getting the names mixed up , Neil was the look keeper thank you for being understanding,John
You don’t need to apologise, John! 👍😀 Take care 🌻🦋
Brilliant video! Thanks for sharing 👍😊
Thank you so much for your lovely comment. Take care🌻🦋
The garden is looking lovely
Thank you, Andrew. The garden is looking a bit sad at the moment, so I will get out there this week and see what I can do. Have a fab Friday, take care🌻🦋

Thank you🙏✝️🙏
James, you are very welcome. Have a lovely week. Take care🦋🌻
Great video as always :-)))

Nice!
👁What was in the crows beak, was he collecting flowers to woo his lady love? 🌼🌻🌺

Too relaxed to comment.
