    Honestly, Delano Hybrid 4 is easily my favorite. So great! \m/ Also, Lobster please keep doing these types of videos once a year. They are awesome. I would love to see this with P-Bass, J-Bass, and maybe even a P/J Bass as well in the future. Your channel rocks!! Also, for you kind sir, What would you call a lobster that's always annoyed?................................................................. A frustacean. Much love brother!

      You should check out their Jay Ray pickup. The Hybrid has all sorts of fancy switching options meant to be paired with a specific neck pickup, and the Jay Ray is the same magnet configuration with basic wiring.

    A very nice tight, focused sounding pickup. Definitely fits with the "Warwick" tone.

    As a Warwick and MEC user I find this pickup so elegant and I am not even surprised... As opposed to many people opinions MEC can sound without that flat or even harsh treble people hate... I think it is in the hands of the player (awesome playing!🦀) and the knowledge to dial a fine spot... I would love to add them to a streamer CV all passive😎

      Totally agree. These feel more refined around the edges. Less jangle and spank up top compared to stock, but much more punch.

    Good lord each one of these pickups sound so good. My top 3 would be this MEC and Delano tied for first and then maybe the Nordstrand big man even though that pickup is too hot. This MEC just sounds nice and balanced with plenty of growl. Keep doing these type of videos as they really do help all us mod junkies out. Like someone else mentioned, you need to do this again with P and J pickups. Great job as always!

    These 6 vid’s ( Trickfish pre amp & comparing 5 different coils ) is what this channel is all about. SUPER GREAT because it exposes viewers to a variety of tones & preferences resulting in informed choices when deciding to mod your bass. Personally, when you buy a EBMM Stingray, you buy the stock coil, you buy the tone. Lobster, Thx for this outstanding comparative series.

    Thanks and congrats for the videos - that's a huge effort.
    As a not so big stingray fan, I liked the Turner's character quite a bit. Nordstrands are also cool.
    Too bad Lace don't make a MM format Aluma pickup - that would have definitely fit the bill for "strange"

  • @MotoMarios

    To me it sounds almost identical to the stock pickup, the only difference being that is has slightly subdued highs. Definitely not my favourite here. I'm still digging the second Nordstrand the most.

    Slam a black guard on there and you have something very close to my dream bass 26 years ago. Now... A big hunk of metal covering on pickups have sort of lost its appeal. The pickup seems to be the least "harsh" or "spikey" of the ceramics (might just be my ears tho). Over all the new PRE is doing a lot of work for all of these pick ups.
    Peace and ty for doing this.

    Hey Lobster. That's a cool pickup if you want that stock Stingray tone but you don't want the fret buzz and clank tones in the mix. This series just shows me that I need to replace the stock pickup in my Ray 35. It's so dang hot and open and it pickups up everything. I might wanna consider a preamp change too. I really the adjustability of a 4 band eq. Any recommendations? Thanks for doing this series. It's showed be a lot. Until we groove again ♥️🎸🦞✌️😎👍🦞🎸♥️

    • @qwertyrichard15
      @qwertyrichard15 Год назад +1

      Hey Rick! I have had the same issue with my ray34, first swapped the preamp for a John East and this solved those issues and adds a ton of clarity. Then changed the pickup to a Bartollini. I got a different, more hifi (maybe just more high mids) tone, but not much else. I would suggest changing preamp first, the stock pickup in the 34/5 series is actually really good.

    • @rickrolli7091
      @rickrolli7091 Год назад

      @@qwertyrichard15 thanks Richard for your reply. I appreciate that. I am a Bart and John East fan. My other Stingray 5 has an Audere classic pre with a 4 band eq. It sounds really good. Just wondering what other 4 band preamps, that are good, are out there.

  • @DolemiteSammich

    I see on the warwick site these were designed to be used passively. What effect does using active have on them?

    • @LowEndLobster
      @LowEndLobster  Год назад +4

      I think you misunderstand. It's a passive pickup but not meant to be used passively. You can use these in a fully passive situation or with a preamp, but it's still a passive pickup. They're just noting the pickup itself doesn't require battery power.

    More low end and less harshness vs the stock but still in that realm. Definitely a cool look and still an upgrade from the stock, but I'd prefer either of the Nordstrands.

  • @revlewisrees9880

    This pickup has a lovely balance to it. I think it’s in my top three along with the Nordstrand ‘Big Man’ and the multicoil one (can’t remember the manufactur, sorry!)

  • @Bassdriver
    @Bassdriver Год назад +1

    It's better than I thought it would be. I expected muddy lows, flat, dry, nasal midrange and detached treble way up high, sounding like string noise - just like in Warwick basses (I absolutely HATE Warwicks with a burning passion). But it's actually really decent. A bit muffled but it does have that Stingray tone. Not as good as the Nords but really nice nonetheless. A pleasant surprise!

  • @DiogoBaeder
    @DiogoBaeder Год назад +1

    Not impressed. But it does sound focused, and a very good quality in it is that it doesn't sound harsh, which is a problem in many other MM pickups.

  • @themaschi
    @themaschi Год назад

    Not gonna lie.... I prefer a very different pu. That said though, the series mode of the mec mm pu just had something to it when slapped.... Just to add something: it's not just available in chrome .... Cuz chrome doesn't realy fit easy in a lot if colour scemes. Other than that the price is a bit elevated i think. But Overall it seems like a very solid pick

  • @nj1255

    I had exactly these pickups in my Warwick Corvette $$ Proline. They were perfectly fine pickups (nothing special though), but the MEC 2-band pre-amp they used together with them was just horrible. Clanky, harsh, ice picky highs and boomy lows. This is the reason I sold it. In retrospect I should've just changed out the pre-amp.
