    It's very good that you are showing people how to get into CDs. I have quite a few players, I have an Audiolab CDQ8200 in my main system and a Marantz Cd63 mkii Ki signature edition in a second system, with a few other Marantz players tucked away .

    This a great recommendation. Had a similar set up for my work desk listening. Used a compact Sony dvd player running through a Topping DAC. Thought it sounded great.
    Recently upgraded it to an "inexpensive" Chinese Hyperbola CD player built using name brand compenents. I'm blown away at how good it sounds. Running circles around the Cambridge CXC transport in my main listening set up!

    LQQK for these couple things too.............................
    1. Feel the weight. If it's got some, it may mean a 'Linear Power Supply',
    2. A removable power cord. Easy noise upgrade.
    3. Replace the feet with SOFT silicone types.
    4. Use a decent digital cable.
    5. Add adhesive backed (+-2mm) rubber mat to lid underside (no rez)
    My CD/DVD player of choice are the Studio Tascams.
    Acid Jazz, Funk & Brass 🔈🔉🔊
    PS,
    I also black-out all the superfluous printing on the faceplates with some tape & a Sharpie.

    Currently using an Arcam DV 88 as my main cd player, was a £1k player back in the day, picked it up for £60, basically it is a CD 73 under the bonnet at half the price, no need for external dac with this unit, sounds just as good as my Denon DCD 800ne.

      Both of those Pioneers are toys. Their transformers are about as big around as a US quarter coin. Small tiny instruments never sound convincing. Your ear/brain system tells you it's too small to be a real instrument. I've has 2 Pioneer 578s quit on me. A first. They're pretty much junk. The only ones they impress are people who've never heard a real good cd player

    • @thisisnev
      @thisisnev 2 месяца назад +1

      @@sidesup8286 Big transformers are for power amps. They don't make any difference to sources. Your ear/brain system really ought to pick up a basic understanding of how electricity works.
      I do know what a 'real good cd player' sounds like, as it happens. I got in on the ground floor of CD back in 1984, so over the decades I've listened to more than you've had hot dinners. Take your audiophool snobbery somewhere where anyone cares.

    • @sidesup8286
      @sidesup8286 2 месяца назад

      @this is...Sorry about your deep mental problem, lashing out at me for mentioning that the Pioneer is crappy with a quarter size transformer. The reason I know it has such a small cheap transformer is I do 60+ step mods of cd players that double sound quality. That you have a better understanding of cd players or electric than I have, is an absolute laugh. Bigger beefier transformers result in much bigger instrument sound, whether it is a cd player, power amp or anything. Bigger beefier transformers also always result in better transient response and control, better dynamics and better bass. Now you can crawl back into your circus tent and take off your makeup. This is only audio; and it's meant to be fun.

    One cd/dvd (gapless!) player with digital sound output , coaxial optical or both (to compare each other)
    A double AK4494SEQ dac with usb, coaxial, optical inputs.
    Then, I can evaluate both with the files I ripped on my pc without any compression (.wav), that's it folks😃

  • @bikdav

    My biggest problem with DVD and Blu Ray players is that you cannot program play 💿 CDs without having to turn on the TV to set that up. Some units don’t even allow program playback in the first place. My OPPO 103 doesn’t allow that.

    • @mattsmusichannel
      @mattsmusichannel  8 месяцев назад +1

      That's a good point. I tend to just put an album on and let it play but yeah if you want to program the track order it's not always possible.

    As genX'er, I have thousands of CDs. An old Carver CD player and tons of Blu-ray player + DVD players. And old school PCs with dvd-rws. I think I'm good. Plus I live in an apartment building, so you need to be mindful of others. And finally, I got my first Walkman in 1979, my parents were early adopters - needless to say, I'm fairly deaf out my right ear, 80% loss out that channel. Not sure of this recommendation is meant for me. Lol

    Save the future of physical media. Buy used or new CDs and whatever works as your first players. Possible future upgrade of CD player or transport and DAC when you can.

If you look at some of my other videos, you'll know I bought a very nice mic and it wasn't reliably syncing with the computer so I went back to the in built one. Money doesn't grow on trees you know and I'm fully aware of the shortcomings, but equally, I'm spending my time creating videos that you're watching for free. So, you know, cutting us creators a little slack wouldn't do you any harm mate!
