THIS IS ONLY FREDDIE'S VOICE! NOT Montserrat"s !! He recorded the demo for Montserrat SINGING HER PART. It was his impersonation of Montserrat"s vocal style.
As another has said this is only Freddie's voice. It is a demo he did of Ensueno to send to Montsy of her part.
Freddie can sing anything. He has done all. Even my friend thought, that it's woman singing. 😂

I trick many people by playing it and asking them to guess who it is... Even friends who own Queen albums thought it was either Montserrat or another woman... Every one of them was shocked it was Freddie!
I love that this tune is also an answer to Freddie-sceptics who say 'he never really sang opera though, did he...' meaning that Bohemian Rhapsody, while opera in construct, is not opera in vocal style, and also that Fred didn't sing operatically on Barcelona.
Play this and they soon shut up!

I usually recommend that folks just react to the audio of the original 1987 Demo only (the pic shows Freddie in a tuxedo). This video montage is so MISLEADING/CONFUSING: Since it includes imagery of Montserrat along w Freddie, it gives the totally incorrect impression that she was doing part of the singing.... Which of course (as I know others have mentioned) is NOT the case! The reason Freddie Mercury fans hold this song up as the "Holy Grail"/testament to his true talents... is because this was wholly just Fred.
(This version of the song itself is also a posthumous re-release which had a full orchestra added; the original 1987 Demo features just piano accompaniment/Freddie's vocals are more prominent.)💕

As others already pointed out this is a demo Freddie sent to Montserat for her to learn.
The reason there are no lyrics is he wanted the song in Spanish, so she wrote the lyrics.
It became the duet "Ensueno", where she sang the soprano and he did the baritone.
... without vocal training.
I've read somewhere, that Freddie didn't really know how to use his voice when he joined to the band (called Smile then) and Roger mentioned once in an interview, that Freddie has sounded as a sheep 😁 at the begginings, but he became this fantastic artist, a brilliant musician just a few years later.
Pls, check out one of Freddie's solo stuffs the Made In Heaven (the original official video) which one is not operatic singing, but something similar, an amazing song and amazing video.

Thanks, Nickky - but the video is deceptive - this is FREDDIE only -- showing Montsy what would be her part - and eventually became so in the song "Ensueno" --

Freddie forgot he had to do a b side for Great Pretender!
he asked Mike to play something classical and he would improvise!
when he later met Montsarat who is a world class saprano he thought performing this would be a great ice braker
she missunderstood and thought it was for her
she performed it at covent garden 3 weeks later with mike playing piano and she had wrote lyrics as a surprise for Freddie
they worked on it and it became ensueno
