Thank you posting this, my #1 fav song from the Carpenters. There are multiple favorites, more than any other Artists I've listened to. Karen was beyond incredible, this being done in one take!
Noone can interpret a piece & sing with so much heart, soul & precision execution as this lovely lady!
Another great one - from the Now & Then album is "I Can't Make Music"
Please do ‘Maybe It’s You’ from the album Close to You, and ‘One More Time’ from the album A Kind of Hush
hey jay.so glad you got around to this song. this should have been a single back then but back in the 70s record companies only released 2-3 singles per albums leaving gems like this unheard of unless a fan bought the lp. there is a "live" version of this from a tv show on you tube so you might want to check it out sometime.
This was recorded because it was one of Richard’s favourites, he loved the way the lyrics flowed
Thx! I’ve heard Richard Carpenter give credit and tribute to Randy Sparks for this song! Beautiful melody and arrangement!
Have you ever reviewed Road To Ode? Another beautiful one
Great reaction! What a lovely voice she had. Sad to think that she was suffering while making these fantastic albums
Another great song. Love it. Karen’s voice is velvet. I love watching your reactions as you are listening to her beautiful voice.
This song is soooo beautiful :)
Crystal Lullaby is another good one.
Consider reacting to, "Make believe it's your first time."
I doubt there was ever a vocal inflection that Karen didn't do on purpose. ;-)
I think that the beginning is actually a clarinet btw
No one has a lower register like Karen's.
I love that lower register. It's so warm
Great reaction Jaybriel. Try to react If I Had You taken from her solo album Lovelines.
Hi Jaybriel, me again. I want to see if you can react to “Robin Gibb C’est la vie au revior”. Please
Most of Karen's songs has a common thread of sadness. She was singing of her life.
thats definitely on purpose. ive heard that technique before in other songs
Karen’s voice was so beyond incredible that she was able to overcome Richard’s over-arranging. I miss her so much.
What a load of poppycock you say. That is disrespectful about Richards arrangements. Richard knew right from the beginning to the end how to get the most of Karen's voice. His arrangements and all of the overdub techniques are the reason why there songs have stood the test of time. Its Richards arrangements that brought out the best from Karen's vocals. And if she was here she would not agree with you.
@@davmar5648 that’s my opinion, sorry. Many people feel that his arrangements held her back, I’m not alone in thinking that.
It’s actually disrespectful of you to not allow people to think what they want. I grew up with the Carpenters, and know their music.
Respect people’s opinions. Also, you have no idea what Karen Carpenter would think. How ridiculous.
@@artistbrindle iam sorry if you are offended. I have been a fan of there sound and there music since 1975. I know every note of there music like the back of my hand. Yes we all have our opinions but I feel there actual sound and style and arrangements are as important as her very unique voice.
@@davmar5648 the arrangements are very important, there is no other sound that comes close to theirs. I’m a huge huge fan of theirs and have been since I was about six.
When I say that Richard overproduced certain songs it doesn’t mean that I don’t respect him as a musician and songwriter. They were both brilliant
Re your analysis at 7:00, The vocal intro sounds like a “bend” up from the root to the major 3 or 2 whole steps a lot of space to cover in about 1/16 of a second . But in all seriousness it sounds clean to me.
There’s a British guy by the name of Fil who runs a popular channel called wings of Pegasus .. he does a lot of analysis the last few months on auto tune pitch correction
He uses software to see just how accurate some of the old school singers were in relation to perfect pitch. Needless to say Karen was amongst the most accurate . Even in her vibrato she had a consistent range typically 8 to 10 cents above and below the note but she was always either right on or within a couple of cents. Uncanny actually
Excellent job picking g off the merry Xmas darling riff .. absolutely is .. but really … every artist uses riffs over and over in various songs and solos. Every single rock guitarist has 20-30 riffs from a few notes to a few bars they play in multiple songs at different temps in different keys etc. there’s only so many ways to rearrange the notes that are in key with a melody .. but great job picking that one off 👍🏻👍🏻
Great song - tomorrow is the 39th anniversary of Karen's passing. More Karen reactions!!!
