UNIQUE GREETINGS IN ESAN LANGUAGE!!! GREETINGS BY MALES: Aisan = Good Morning Khara = Good Afternoon + Good Evening GREETINGS BY FEMALES: Do aije = Good Morning + Good Afternoon Ai jesan = Good Evening THE OLDER PERSON'S RESPONSES: These will depend on either the time of the day or the circumstances / activities. 1) The response to the morning greetings is: Wẹ wẹle = Did you sleep well? 2) If you are either visiting or coming from work / outside; The response is: Obokhian = welcome. 3) The response to the evening greetings is usually: Wẹ lebae = Have you eaten. This is because having a good evening meal (usually pounded yam) after a hard day's work was essential. This is why the response could also be specific: Wẹ lema = Have you eaten pounded yam? As you know in many Nigerian Languages, greetings and their responses can sometimes be very extensive. As the older person or acquaintance is expected to ask of the well-being of your family and yourself. We will go into more details in subsequent videos. Happy learning. Thank you so much sis, proudly ESAN woman and this your Esan language classes will definitely help my children. You just gained a new subscriber today and again thank you so much
@CG4JereZion, Obokhian to the Esan language platform. Obulu for your contribution and sharing the Ebelle version of Esan greetings. As in other languages including English, there are regional variation.
Am from Igueben and igueben and surrounding areas Language cannot be used to describe esan because it is quite different due to the heavy influence of Bini in it. My mom is from Ukhun close.to ekpoma and my dad is Igueben and it was a struggle navigating the two variants
Wonderful! Thank you for this contribution to learn the Esan language out of Africa. I started today, fell in love with the language immediately and I'll continue to follow you lessons. Thank you and greetings from Zadar - Croatia/Dalmatia! Mirta
I am oyinbo And I'm prepared for everyone in Lagos to give me the mumu price... I am traveling there in 2 months to marry my 2nd Nigerian wife... I love the Nigerian people and their culture it fascinates me and I love to learn I speak pigeon English Very well well... Thank you for your videos
@@josephorobosa6105 l am not sure if you grow up in Esan. There are regional variations in dialects in Esan as in other Languages including English Language. I discussed these variations in detail in my current Series on the Barriers in learning a new Language/Culture. Check out my Playlist on the Series. Please leave me comments on the videos as you would find useful.
@Josh Taley, the similarity between the two Languages will be better explain if one has an understanding of the context in which you are learning either one or both Languages. However, I will suggest you watch my Channel introduction Video (My first Video). It will give you a brief history/location of the Esan people.
Some benins migrated during the 15th century into Esan land affecting the languages of the aborigines that were already there. However Esan language is still distinct and different from Benin.
Dije is a shorter/another version of Do aije. And Uwele is a another version of Wẹwẹle. Just as in English there are many responses to how are you? E.g. I am well thank you; Great; I'm ok; Fine; etc.
@SMAINA Okosun Oare, Obulu for taking the time to leave me a comment. However, I'll suggest you re-watch the video at 10.06 mins because I mentioned the full greeting was initially Edo-ajie. Which was later shorted to Do-aijie. In addition, I was born and raised in Esan and I've greeted Do-aijie all my life. And I have never heard anyone greet Edo-ajie hence I only mentioned Edo-ajie as part of the historical context in this Video. Please note, I put a lot of effort in making these videos and I sometimes consult with Elders and Esan Language Experts for clarification. Please let me know which part of Esan women greet with Edo-ajie?
I live here in Edo state and we greet 'do a ije' Also, as a prince you should understand that there are different tribes even in esan and hence the way of greeting might differ.
Even though you claim to be a prince, I doubt you ever spent a night in esanland. I grew up in lagos but we always go to the village when we were kids. It has always been doeje. Nobody has ever mentioned edo in it. This is even my first time of hearing the edo connection.
