Yeah for a project what about trying to figure out how to create one of those Japanese Yosegi Puzzle Boxes. Even if that is too hard you could try to use some of the print in multi color techniques to create boxes that look like them anyways to package up the ball puzzles. I'm sure there are plenty of other puzzles you can design as well. especially if you start with the concept of how it works and then you just design the shape to work with the specific puzzle/mechanism. This will be a great challenge and you could even put it out to your viewers and followers as well and say anyone who designs a puzzle and submits it will have it featured in your video. you can then take the best ones or even all of them and then send half to Mr. Puzzle and the other half to Chris Ramsey and then when they are done with them they exchange them maybe making a few duplicates of specific ones designed for each person. You can get an idea of what kind of style Chris has very easily. Another thing to print in color might be trying to 3D print a card and if you want to go crazy make something that does a card trick. maybe re-designing a classic trick like move a hole through a card, changing a card or even marked cards some how tricky with the angle or pattern of the print on the back. I know 3D printing 52 cards might be a bit too much but you can pick some of your favorites and just do those. Good luck and hope to see your puzzles on Chris's video and can't wait to see what his quarantined mind comes up with as an intro for it... Scan a picture of it and then make it look like it printed out of a regular printer with effects, create a laser room and make it look like the laser zaps it into existence with editing, or have it magically appear somewhere. Either way make sure to send him the footage of it printing and any other cool shots and stuff you think he could use to make the intro and to introduce the Make Anything channel.
@Emmanuel Braden when i installed it my phone showed a picture of dead rotting camel, and a man came through my screen and tortured me for 63 hours straight 😭😭😭
Devin as always you inspire the lot of us. Love your new puzzle as I am busy printing as many puzzles as I can for the Grandchildren during this lock down! Please keep up the great work.
Hahahahaha, awesome intro, love it. Very cool puzzle, beautifully made. So clean. Love the Chain Puzzle. Cool technique for Multi color prints. Well done, great video, keep them coming, especially the intros.
The first puzzle you showed in this video I just saw a company selling them. I saw there commercial on youtube and I thought it looked very familiar. I quickly remembered your videos showing the puzzle. I hope they didn't just steal your idea.
I come from more of a woodworking background. In the wood world when one is trying to achieve that “rubbed out” high gloss look, you would use lacquer instead of polyurethane. There are a couple advantages. Lacquer dries in like 10 minutes, and it can also pretty predictably be coated wet on wet. Also each subsequent coat basically dissolves the previous coat and become this one homogenous thing at the end, which lends itself well to sanding. Polyurethane is basically layers on top of layers, like a jawbreaker. Sometimes when you sand through one layer but not another you can see those witness lines. I really don’t know what effect lacquer has on PLA though. The solvents in it might dissolve the print for all I know. Maybe someone with more experience in coating 3D prints with lacquer could chime in. Really cool stuff you’re doing as always. Take it easy and be well.
Outstanding video Devon! I love your new puzzles, I need to make them. I made a couple of your Scritchers and my granddaughter swiped them from me. I think you are one of the most creative makers on You Tube.
One, great opening! Two, you should make an 'insane chain puzzle' which can be made of infinitely many midpieces that have two tubes and two half loops. Then two end pieces that have a short half loop and a long half loop. In the one form it's a chain (but won't bend), in the other form it's a series of short loops enclosed by one large one, and then all combinations in between.
My sanding: 240, 400, 800, 1200, last two wet. Acrylic clear coat, multiple thin passes (at least 5). Does the job, every time. Some filament actually look the best just after 240 and very thin coat. It doesn't get glossy but makes the surface have a uniform look. WOrks best on natural/beige/brown and white plastic. Black needs to be sanded carefully, you may need to skip the 240 as it can scratch the surface too easily. Sanding sponges are the best, they are easier to clean and they don't clog easily but they are a bit pricey, save them for objects that have tough shapes for sand paper. Print sanding blocks that are meant for the piece.. That is one thing that we often forget, we can copy the exact shapes from the model to sanding blocks that fit the need perfectly..
i have to say I LOVE all the different techniques you come up with using somewhat minor code tweaks. If you know of any filament that comes out really clear as a single layer or two when printed, that could give you a good protective layer before the colors are applied. Then when you finish it, you could try the poly spray or a clear resin coat, and not worry about having to sacrifice too much of the design material to finishing.
I just bought a 3d pen because of you and some of your old videos!! It is awesome but I want some more ideas. I love to watch your small projects, can you make another 3d pen video ????? Or a review of one ??
Tim Eisnor Just curious on what 3D pen you bought? I’ve been in the market to buy one but they are either really cheap (with bad reviews) or really expensive. I would like to find something reliable order $40 if possible. Could you give any suggestions? And where to buy? Thanks in advance for the help.
trcmustang I bought the Mynt3D pro 3D pen off Amazon. I believe it was around $30. After 5 months of light use, it still works fine. I highly recommend it. Theres a stopless speed controller thingy, which is great for finding your niche, and the temperature control has been really useful, as it is in 1 degree increments. There is a problem with the pen where it goes into standby mode if you change the speed away from the fastest, but the company was really gracious informed everyone that it was due to the adapter included and not the pen, and offered a free replacement adapter. There’s a service door, which would be helpful if a) the pen broke and b) I knew anything about mechanics. All the issues I’ve had with 3D printing has either bee due to my lack of skill or to the cheap filament I bought. I hope this helps! Edit: realized this was addressed to OP, not me, but I hope it’s helpful anyway!
I once did the first layer thing, I did 2 layers of each color in different files, all at the same height so the surface was glass smooth, and printed from lightest color to darkest color, definitely needed a perfect first layer tho
@@mlazzarotto If I'm understanding what L3D is saying. The wavy pattern was made by breaking it up into multiple files. Determine the height of your pattern, keeping in mind to leave room for the print nozzle, and set your z jump accordingly. You just gotta split up your model file wisely. Seeing the creations in this video makes me want to explore the artistic capabilities of FDM. Time for some experiments :)
You can get a 3D print to a shine by going up to >1500 grit for wet sanding. Polishing after that you can see your own reflection even without urethane.
Devin... liked, already subscribed, awesome video dude. You, Joel, Angus, Thomas and Ivan are my favorites. (Ivan burns tons of red filament holy crap!)
I also had the whole dust issue when using polyurethane on my prints. I found a very low-tech solution to it. Paint the piece in a box and cover the box immediately after.
Not to play the devils advocate but honestly, with these specific puzzles, if your kid gets to the magnets it means they got the two halves apart, at which point the literal dozens of marbles come loose, so really. The firmly glued magnets would not be your first concern. (Also, i really dont think these are for children at all)
I loved the Apple Parody😍 You are truely a little Jobs. I am about to buy a new Prusa Printer and I am not quite shure which printsurface I shall buy. I plan on making such multicolored prints like you did. You used a smooth surface but I guess a textured surface does look nice aswell. What kind of printsurface do you recommend, the smoth PEI sheet or the Powder Coated PEI sheet?🤔
I don't have experience with the Prusa print surfaces, but I'd say go with whichever you like the look of. I should note that people have had trouble doing the multipass technique on prusa printers because of the matrix leveling it runs between prints
Beautiful case art. I also love interference patterns. Especially cool was the optical illusion of the holographic sheen. Your introduction gave me a good hearty laugh. Try looking on RUclips for prop builders to get inspiration for finishing your prints. Thank you
7:24 What if you 3d printed a sorter to separate the beads by those small differences? There exists a subset of the beads you ordered which has better diameter consistency than the entire set together, you can use that subset instead of designing your puzzles with looser tolerances
just got to the part where you opened up the OP1 and my jaw dropped. I wish I could afford one of those, but damn I could buy a whole craigslist car for that cost
Cardboard box + plastic sheets taped to it + (battery powered) extraction fan to help reduce overspray landing back on the wet paint = collapsible/portable mini spray booth?
There are special filaments that melt in water or some chemical. So if you use it and spray water / chemical or something on the print it will shine like nothing you have seen!
you should design a mecanism, like a sift, that allows only a certain diameter beads to pass troughm that way you can separate the larger from the smaller tolerances.
So I also have an Envovo/Artillery and I am SO HAPPY YOU DO TOO! What have you found to be the best "basic" settings for printing with precision? I am finding having Z banding issues, my Benchy came out awful :(
Thanks for another amazing video, I'm always wowed by them! I'm going to see if I can get some of those polishing papers, thanks for the tip! Are you going to try again with the rattlesnake live stream? that thing looked really cool.
I knew the channel was called make anything. I didnt know he could make me cry.
"make tears"
Oh, my heart!
look nm
?
I’m still waiting for the *pro* version of the scritcher
Enterprise Scritcher. Optimized for scritchee scalability. Runs on all major operating systems. With 24/7 customer support.
**fingers sold separately*
_ David _ only if it’s also *max*
I'm looking forward to the retro
That would be $799 then good sir.
You should send one to Mr. Puzzle and one to Chris Ramsay.
He should also send them some of the 3D printed puzzle boxes from his other video!
I second Mr. Puzzle!
Definitely send to Chris Ramsey
Definitely Mr.Puzzle!

what if you made THE CHAIN with... TWO rotating sections >:3
You mad madman
And three different colors!
Hi makers muse, I watch you to
why not Four
@Emmanuel Braden when i installed it my phone showed a picture of dead rotting camel, and a man came through my screen and tortured me for 63 hours straight 😭😭😭
The scritcher really went 👉👈
(Scritcher mini for the W I N)
I want one to scritch my pets
I see ...youre also a community fan...
Devin as always you inspire the lot of us. Love your new puzzle as I am busy printing as many puzzles as I can for the Grandchildren during this lock down! Please keep up the great work.

Thanks!
Long but nice🤣
You should send your puzzle to Tim from Grand Illusions, he'd love it!
And the quarantine has definitely made you mad, I love it
Devin was always crazy, in the best way :')
These are not his puzzles. these are puzzles from the eighties from the Soviet Union
Everyone is talking about Chris Ramsey, but can you send an OP1 case to Red Means Recording?
Just ordered about 210 beads in various colors and 100 magnets. Can't wait to finally try these things!
Put a box (preferably plastic) on top of stuff you're painting outside to prevent junk from landing on the paint while it cures
The first puzzle you showed in this video I just saw a company selling them. I saw there commercial on youtube and I thought it looked very familiar. I quickly remembered your videos showing the puzzle. I hope they didn't just steal your idea.
"Hello." comes on screen, I legit silently applauded.
Can you make a video showing how to make those trippy designs on the case. Great video
"Well, I'll find that someday" Quarantine hitting that hard Devon?

Thanks for that insight, it might be worth trying out
that shiny case looks BEAUTIFUL!!!!
Seriously. Your way of thinking is refreshing and inspiring!
This video is a piece of art. Immaculate editing.
I hit the like button as soon as I saw this "hello" intro
Awesome work Devin, thanks for sharing the puzzles 👏👏👏
I really love that glossy case. It’s so nice.
Another awesome video. You are creative and unassuming; a real joy to watch. Thankyou.

Where is the button for second like? Dude, you make amazing things. Beautiful work!
I love your design sense. So cool. Thanks for sharing the inspiration and knowledge.

oh my god THANK YOU ! i was looking to do some engine turning surface effects for AGES !

Man I love your content. Your quality and hard work is extremely noticeable and enjoyable. Thank you!
This intro is my new favorite thing 😂
I just bought a 3d pen because of you and some of your old videos!! It is awesome but I want some more ideas. I love to watch your small projects, can you make another 3d pen video ????? Or a review of one ??
Tim Eisnor I totally agree! I would click on that video so hard!

wow i really like the scallop and inlay design, beautiful!
You should make one of those op-1 cases for Red Means Recording
Beautiful work, man. That OP-1 case is lush!
This video has EVERYTHING. I think I'm in love with you now. I got some pocket operators, I ordered those beads off of eBay, got a 3D pen. I'm all in!
I have solved the chain many times, its one of my favorite 3d printed puzzles
Try some micro mesh, they are little squares with rounded edges, that turn any foggy material, clear
You're infectious. Thanks!
I once did the first layer thing, I did 2 layers of each color in different files, all at the same height so the surface was glass smooth, and printed from lightest color to darkest color, definitely needed a perfect first layer tho

You are very creative! Thanks for sharing with us!
You should print one of the OP-1 covers for RED MEANS RECORDING
The amount of time you put into the intro is amazing it was perfect!! Made my day thank you
What are your thoughts on the design being sold on kickstarter?
Jobs was just an overhyped marketer masquerading as a revolutionary. You're a true revolutionary.
I would LOVE to see you design and build a bead size sorting tower that could separate your beads into sets so you have less variance problems!
The name Cool Prints is definetly deserved. Cool video!
Chris Ramsay would love the chain puzzle
You can get a 3D print to a shine by going up to >1500 grit for wet sanding. Polishing after that you can see your own reflection even without urethane.
“still not perfect” lol I thought I was a perfectionist. I guess not
Devin... liked, already subscribed, awesome video dude.
Thanks so much, been waiting to see someone try polishing the prints after sanding.
Cool designs btw.^_^
This is perfect because I accidentally ordered WAY too many of those beads 😂
The cases would be dope for mechanical keyboards ngl
Dude. 30 seconds in, and I'm dying!!!! So well done!!! Uh-maz-balls!!!!!
For the musical instrument cover you could try one of Penrose patterns, or Escher tilings
Could you make one where you pause the print, put in the magnets and then continue? I worry about glued-in magnet toys around small children.
Not to play the devils advocate but honestly, with these specific puzzles, if your kid gets to the magnets it means they got the two halves apart, at which point the literal dozens of marbles come loose, so really. Beautiful case art. I also love interference patterns. Especially cool was the optical illusion of the holographic sheen. Your introduction gave me a good hearty laugh. Try looking on RUclips for prop builders to get inspiration for finishing your prints.
Thank you
I thought you'd peaked at human Bop It, but your videos just keep getting better. Keep being you Devin!
Right as the video finished, so did a print I had running. Nice
woooooooooooooow that holo effect is so awesome
WOW! Andrew Huang would definitely LOVE the OP-1 case!
April second- the day we learned that this year was in fact, not a joke
I would love to see the solid Wizard Voodoo case sanded polished to really make the pattern pop.
How about a scritcher mega? The scritch-back pro
7:24 What if you 3d printed a sorter to separate the beads by those small differences? There exists a subset of the beads you ordered which has better diameter consistency than the entire set together, you can use that subset instead of designing your puzzles with looser tolerances
Could you make a centre section for the puzzle to make it infinitely expandable
Cool puzzle. I've seen that type of puzzle before, but never solved it. haha.
13:23 That was awesome! thanks for sharing!
just got to the part where you opened up the OP1 and my jaw dropped. I wish I could afford one of those, but damn I could buy a whole craigslist car for that cost
They sell those polishing papers as pads for orbital buffers. Way easier
This is like an episode of Cosmos and a Steve Jobs product reveal all rolled together and I love it 🤣😂🤣😂🤣
You better send a scritcher with the puzzle to whomever you're sending it to!
Cardboard box + plastic sheets taped to it + (battery powered) extraction fan to help reduce overspray landing back on the wet paint = collapsible/portable mini spray booth?
“2020 is turning out to be an unprecedented year”
yeah but like x100000000000000
Jk this is an awesome apple parody and i love your channel Devin♥️
Cette intro :-)
toute ressemblance avec une personne ayant existée ne serait que fortuite...
excellent !
There are special filaments that melt in water or some chemical. So if you use it and spray water / chemical or something on the print it will shine like nothing you have seen!
man thats stunning!!!!
The Chain would be great if it could add to it, like a extra link to make it harder. Just a thought.
Get a mesh kit and you can polish up to 12000 grit we used them on canopies in the air force. They work amazing!
I'm really curious what Oskar van Deventer would make out of these puzzles. He just got his own 3D printer.
They look beautiful, very creative 👍
You should test the M600 post processing script. It's really easyer to do multicolor on a single nozzle machine
you should design a mecanism, like a sift, that allows only a certain diameter beads to pass troughm that way you can separate the larger from the smaller tolerances.
that peg board is really cool lol
Wow. This is next level.
Hey, my pixel got made! Great job mate - DruzyQ
Thanks for share your ideas and knowledge 🤗
At first I thought your RUclips icon was the Audio Technica logo for some reason.
There's some resemblance :P
That bit was gold tho
So I also have an Envovo/Artillery and I am SO HAPPY YOU DO TOO!
What have you found to be the best "basic" settings for printing with precision? I am finding having Z banding issues, my Benchy came out awful :(
he is the MumboJumbo of 3d printing
Love the enthusiasm
patreon pixel. Now THAT is a brilliant idea and execution. Well done! Reminds me of that 1 dollar per pixel website years ago.
Thanks for another amazing video, I'm always wowed by them! I'm going to see if I can get some of those polishing papers, thanks for the tip! Are you going to try again with the rattlesnake live stream? that thing looked really cool.
Thanks! I want to do the stream but now I have trust issues with my internet connection :'(
Awesome projects as usual! 👍🏼
