    This is a historic building of style and good architectural interest. It has nothing to do with petty Irish hatred which should not be present today. Be proud of your country and all its history as in marriage for better for worse.

    Tell us a bit more about this Lord Chief Justice.. The Thomas Langlois Lefroy - how many Irishmen did he hang ?
    Oh , and - “” Tom decided that Lefroy would do what Newcomen had failed to do. He would pull down the rambling old house in the Carriglas demense and would replace it by a noble structure in the latest style. There were problems. Tenants had to be evicted to clear the ground for a lay out on a suitable scale. But Tom was generous and the process of eviction went relatively smoothly ! ! “”

  • @niallfields5990

    As an Irish taxpayer I would not like to see a single cent of my money spent saving these structures. They are symbols of British colonialism, built often using money generated through slavery and exploitation. The 600 acre site would be much better utilised for local amenities and services, rather than whistle stop tours for Dublin tourists and overpriced coffee wagons!

      Would you knock down the Colosseum or the Egyptian pyramids because they were built by slaves? It would be great to preserve all of the buildings like this in Ireland. They will generate an income for the descendants of the victims of British colonialism. They will not celebrate the empire but ensure we understand it.

      British here, I don’t blame you. These places are physically beyond saving in any case. A more intact house with original interiors, possessions and archives included might be a different thing to potentially preserve though?

    • @baroldable
      @baroldable Месяц назад +5

      To let something like this fall (or worse still to burn it) is an insult to the craftspeople who made it. It would also destroy the history that you seem to love to cling too! As what happened here is the last century, hundreds of items of history - your Irish/British history - were destroyed by this type of radical ranting and would be a disrespect to previous generations. Getting “rid” of it would never dissolve your bitterness, resentment and anger. Those traits would be bred into you and as such require breeding out in order for future generations to move on.
