There are several alternatives to Calvinism and Arminianism. Eastern Orthodoxy, when Arminianism doesn't go far enough, is one one of them. No mention was given about the Cathar Book of the Two Principles as the Boilerplate for Calvin's Institutes. No mention was made about Theodor Beza's disqualification as a Theologian for his work in Pornography entitled Juvenalia. Nor was mention was made of Calvin and Beza's Biographer Jerome Hermes de Bolsec. No Comparison was made between the Councils of Dordt and Ephesus II (aka The Robber Synod) where the Robber Synod comes off as the more legitimate of the two. After all, Dordt was not only boycotted by the French, No Greeks or Russians were invited. Nor was there a Papal Legate like there was at Ephesus II. Nor was any mention given to the Marcion-ish editing of the Bible to exclude the Deuterocanonical Books because they contradicted TULIP. Despite the Calvinist Bias, I find this generally sound Theology.
I don't consider myself Arminian or Calvinist, since I don't believe an extra, supernatural event has to take place, (ie Prevenient Grace or Irresistible Grace) has to happen, apart from the inherent power of the Gospel and the Word of God itself, in order for a sinner to express faith. ALTHOUGH I'm very near a Wesleyan... I love John Wesley much more than John Calvin!
Roger Olson has several books translated into Portuguese, but there are many contradictions in his synergistic theology. He learned from moneregist masters, but never surrendered to soteriological truth. What he cannot answer, and here in Brazil as well, is why there are no Calvinist sects? Many don't realize that Augustine REVERTED after his dealings with Pelagius, to his earlier Manichean and semi-Gnostic beliefs.
