I really like the way amplifiers are built today. Some of the parts used today was not available in the 60's. Even a single pill is built much different than they were way back. This amp you guys are repairing and upgrading at the same time is a monster amp. WOW. How much is that thing pushing? Than thermal paste we use when putting processor chips on computers. If you put a little. That chip will not be good once you power on the PC. Now today motherboards are much better, if the processor chip starts getting hot, it powers off.
I have a 16 pill I am going to try the same thing you both did except I will have to used the regular hg 2879 can’t afford the C just yet. You both make it look easy to change over. Good job I enjoyed the video. If I bump into to a ruff spot I shall hunt you down for a little assistance 😂 continue making them videos.
Excellent build 22 and 28. Just incredible how many watts can be squeezed out of something like that. Oh... and as I was watching you build, I didn't see that you were using an air filtering for your soldering. For the work I do as a hobbiest, I have 3 filtering units and believe me, the charcoal filters gather an extreme amount of soot / soldering smoke that would otherwise go into your lungs. Better to be safe. Those fume extractors are worth the little money I spent on them. Smokers may not notice, but I sure did notice a big difference. Hey...take care of yourselves. Fatboy solder is good try it, no Flux splatter or a lot of flux clean up. Nice stuff. And yes you guys definitely know what your doing. Love this channel.
If you wait until the end to tighten them all it'll go together Easier if you tighten them as you go, they're not gonna lineup as good as when they're loose, try it one time.
I want to see a heads up side by side 8 pill verses 8 pill hg 2879 verses hg2879c same drive same voltage, what does better i hear 2 different schools of thought on this almost daily . From what i have seen and read from the data sheets the 2879c should way outperform the 2879. I really want a 2 x 2879c driving 10 or 12 2879c box. I am just a poor boy and gotta save up to get one.

Oh ya. That thing has so much audio I can’t turn it up over 2 o’clock. Runs best between 11-2. Cal-custom 711 built. Lots of audio and mo watts. After I have him re-tune that 29 I will show it on the peek meter. It will blow you mind.
The average watts should hang steady, not swing backwards. And the two stations on the receive (at the end of the video) sound horrible. Why can’t anyone (on channel 6) build a station that sounds good? A six pill should only do about 900 watts peak! That means about 100 watts average (what you seem to call “Bird” watts.)

This has a two pill driver section built in but it can be driven by a high power radio or a one for sure.
