How do you like them? I'm a bit disappointed with mine. They're so large. And one of them "sticks" so sometimes an extra plate comes with it, which almost dropped on my foot before. Anyone reading this, I'd go with one of the other options. They do the job but I expected better since they had been recommended so often.
Had my 80lb Nuobell's for about a year now, and I still believe I made the right choice for me. Absolutely love their aesthetic and feel, and I haven't had any issues with them. Thankful for videos like this, testing them out. I'm always conscious of their fragility.
I wouldn't change them for anything, he kinda shat on them cause he can but they're still in top 3 for me. You could go a lifetime without having issues and you could drop the reppins and brake them. Who can tell afterall so I don't take his word much when talking about nuobells.
@@toniscepanovic2938 Adrian addressed this in his Reppin review that Rep put out their drop test video comparing competitors. Even at their max 120 pounds, Reppins don't have any issues until you're starting to drop them from frankly unreasonable heights, like 5 feet. And that's on an edge too, where adjustables are weakest. I do believe that Nuobell engineers are working on an improvement to their durability with a design change.
I have and love my Ironmaster and Powerblock combo! For quick drop-sets and isolation moves, I use my Powerblocks. For heavy compound movements, I use my Ironmasters. I care not for longer weight changes because when using the heavier weights, I'm resting quite a bit already. As pointed out, the Ironmasters are the heaviest and solid in this shootout, which is the most important to me. With all that said, the heavy handle kit for the Ironmasters is a complete game-changer!
I've had the Quickdraws for about a week now after buying them after watching your review, they were $380 after the 10% off from Rack Week (picked up a PR4000) and I absolutely love them. Build quality is insane and the weight is perfect for my needs.
I bought a pair of pepin pro series on marketplace with standard plates up to 120 pounds. They are slightly shorter than the ironmasters so the balance is not really an issue and when you screw them in which takes a bit more time (but i dont do supersets so idc) they feel exactly like a fixed dumbbell. The knurling is really good and they will never break. I love them and im very happy because pepin got that rep partnership since pepin is a local company for me (shoutout from canada).
Another great video. Per usual, you keep reinforcing what you convinced me to do 12 months ago, skip the Nuobells and buy the Ironmasters. Thanks Gluck!
This was really helpful! I have fixed dumbbells but literally just this morning was telling the wife I wanted some adjustables to go heavier so Ironmasters it is!! Thanks Gluck!
I have only two quick release dumbbells, both from Hoist, Iron Master bought their patent, made a few changes, so come closets to Hoist. Hoist max set was 75lbs. They work with Iron Master’s 15 lb upgrade. So now my max is 90lbs. So I’m debatable no between buying fixed dumbbells as I increase my strength, or get another adjustable dumbbell. Your reviews are very informative!
I've used set screw handles and spinlock handles for 53 years. Some of it's equipment my Dad bought in 1947. None of it has ever failed. I'm about to pull the trigger on a pair of York 18" handles so I can go over my 14" handles' 83.5 pound capacity. At $25 they're a good deal.
Appreciate the comparison! Picked up the QuickDraws after the full review as best matches my situation: I wanted something durable and good quality, the girlfriend wanted easy adjustability and small increments and starting weight. We’ve been super happy with the Quickdraws and this comparison confirms we made the right choice. I also did the white paint marker trick. Thanks!
I bought the PowerBlock U90 a few years ago. They had a horrible drop inside a U-Haul but they still work great with the new scuffs and scratches. If I could start fresh I would get the Snodes and continue using the set of PlateMates I have.
Excellent and thorough review, thank you Gluck! I have had the PB Pro Exp Urethane 90’s for several years and can attest to their durability. Only annoyance is the added weight lever switch snags on my clothes. If I had to do it over again, based on your review I would probably go Trulap.

I like fixed rubber coated hex dumbbells too, even though I also own adjustable dumbbells. Yet, I regularly use only three weights for dumbbells exercises: 20 lbs for side lateral and front raises, 45 lbs for presses, and 80 lbs for dumbbell bench presses, even though I own rubber coated hex dumbbells from 5 lbs to 100 lbs in 5 lb increments along with many other types of adjustable dumbbells, which are good for unbalanced weight training, which Arnold Schwarzenegger recommends to create a different kind of muscular overload for biceps curls.
Truelabs clearly win for me, easy to adjust and relatively inexpensive. Rep X Pepin 21:35 take more time to adjust and their extra weight won't matter for must of us.
I own the Kensui Adjustabells (Regular version), Pepin Pro, Powerblock Elite 90, and those long dumbbells (olympic plate). I have the Rep x Peppin coming in. I must say that the Kesui Adjutabellls are amazing! Better than the Pepin pro Handles. The price, length of handle, and portability make them great. I love the PowerBlocks and they have lasted for 4 years in a humid southern heat (no ac) garage....however I think they become too large after 60lbs and unwieldy...my wife hates them. I think the Rep X Peppin will be a good adjustable dumbbell due to the ease of use, quick change, and actually feeling like a dumbbell....also the length of the handle is PERFECT!
Nice! I love both my ironmasters and powerblocks. Great quality and they're easy to find secondhand. I'll be looking forward to the VTS review! Larry is cooking with gas over there.
As a dad of two with some rudimentary home gym stuff, I’d be interested to hear how you get/stay in such good shape. Maybe a peek at your workout/life balance?
For me it’s QuickDraw if your aren’t strong enough to care about the max weight, Rep x Peppin if you are decently strong or think you will be, the cheapest available on marketplace if you are broke and ironmaster if you are a monster and need to go above 125. Oh and a twist system like nuobell if you don’t actually lift.
Thanks for doing this breakdown. It was very informative. 11:05 If you're going to do more videos like this, instead of giving them a small bonus to durability, maybe you could have a separate category for warranty? Then you could take into account the level of customer service a company provides. It would also let you differentiate between a product that's relatively fragile but has very fast replacements during the warranty (which has a downside of waiting for a replacement) and a highly durable item which may have slower replacement.
I find it interesting that you end saying if you could only have one set you'd choose the Repins but earlier said that the Trulaps are the ones you use the most
I also have a full set of fixed DBs so when I don't want to track down my Micro Gainz I'll use the Trulaps for the increments. If I only get 1 set (not 11 😂) I'd do just the Reppins. They check off the most boxes for me.
They definitely aren’t the best pick out there BUT one of the best values imo is the MX Selects, I got the 55lb pair + stand for like $400 and that’s a pretty good value. Reppins probably the best on the market tho
I've been watching these type of products recently. Can't wait to see what you think, and if I should blow..i mean spend more money. I have the same rack as you...only with the Athena...still waiting for my Ares. Looking forward to seeing how well it integrates.
The Quickdraws technically max out at 66 pounds if you go with the kilogram version :D Edit: They go up to 30kg, thus going up to 66lbs instead of 66lbs.
Repfitness is the choice, both their Reppin and Quickdraws.. they are just too good. Next to that is the Powerblocks. Reppins are definitely the best on the market, but people should not sleep on the Quickdraws, they are truly amazing and at a GREAT value. If it were to go higher in weight, it would simply be too big, but at the 30 kg (60 lb) they are about the same as the 32 kg Nuobell in size. I can't fathom why anyone would choose Ironmaster, the handle is too long and awkward, the switching of plates takes time and I have seen a couple of times where people posted that their Quicklock system failed. Then there is the dumbbells like Nuobell & Trulap... they are okay, but I personally hate the handles on them.. weak knurling and you can feel how it moves doing exercises because the handle isn't fixed since it needs to rotate to change weight. And the loadables... should not even be considered.
I'm going to be in the market for one of these in about a year so I'm hoping Nuobells has a new, more durable set out by then. They're just unbeatable in terms of ergonomics and ease of use. Otherwise I'm leaning towards the Trulaps or Reppins, budget depending.
My powerblocks are 16 years old and have been used and abused constantly. They have moved with more than a dozen times and work like the day I got them for $300 new.
I just upgraded from the PowerBlock Pro Elite’s to the Reppin’s. I totally loved my PB’s. The one thing I didn’t like was how out of balance they felt at lower weights. The adder weights sit at the bottom of the dumbbell and they can throw off your lift just a little. With that I decided on the Reppin’s and I absolutely love them too. I agree the adder weights rattle and I dont love that sound. I wish they put a very thin layer of UHMW on the back of them or on the dumbbell itself. That would take out the sound for sure. Thanks so much for the fantastic review and as always I love seeing the family in your videos. Awesome job my friend.
Man if Trulap could just make their dumbbell as durable as Snode while keeping the increments and maybe get it to 100lbs for the same price it'd be pretty incredible. For now, because I'm not a fan of the Reppins 4-point change and cage design, I'd say my ideal combo would be Trulaps for quick changing plus Kensui Adaptabells (or Iron Master or Eisenlinks) for really heavy lifts or ones where it may be more likely to be dropped.
I've had the bowflex ones for years, which get the job done but aren't the best. I've been waiting for years now for something to come out that checks all the boxes so I can invest in something that I'll have forever. As you noted none of these are quite there yet. Trulaps or Snodes in 5lb increments at normal 10/5 intervals would work for me why do these not exist?!?! Maybe Nuobell or Snode v2 will get there. Reppins were close but those change plates and makeout rings are a deal breaker for me. If I had to buy one tho I'd prob get those. Still gonna hold out and stick to the bowflexes and barbell for now and save my $1000 for when my cinderella dumbells come along. :D
I own the power block sport 90s which was the only heavy dumbbells available during the plague but I wish I had something better. I can press the full weight for 6-8 reps but I hate the plastic handles and they stick together when I'm changing weights. I keep a dead blow next to them to help with that. I'd love some pepping but I'm struggling with justification at 60 year old.
You can get knurled SS handles from several places; should make them feel like new. I scored a set of sport EXP 90's for $300 off recently, to replace my 50 lb set. Very pleased, but will update the handle later. not sure how your handles can stick together?
@@curtshelp6170 Powerblock has them on their website (the ones that fit I think are called "knurled grips - pro series for $99". Also, Average Joe Innovations, Bare Steel Equipment, JD Gym Equipped, and Griffin Fitness. I have my eye on the JD ones simply because they extend the hex part to fit the metal plate for the insert selectors... seems to be a better design. I don't see that detail on the others.
REP quick draw still needs a heavy handle upgrade option. Faith in REP supporting their ecosystems is at an alltime low. A 50lb handle you can use the same plates from your original on would be so easy.
In my opinion the iron masters are still the best adjustable out there, there the closest to a fixed dumbbell, most compact, no play in them, no cage, no worries about dropping, lifetime warranty, heaviest. All the reviews about adjustable dumbbells is always about which ones are the fastest to change, in 99% of cases does it really matter, what’s the rush, am I the only person thats takes breaks in between sets😂. I can change both dumbbells from 20lbs to 130lbs in about a minute and still have time to rest. If it takes me 5 seconds to change them I still don’t start my next set any quicker. #nosupersets. Thats my 2 cents. Still a great review though.
I sold my ironmaster and while they are awesome I definitely prefer the rep pepin. The speed of change is only a factor when the dumbells are durable and feel like normal dumbells. Rep pepin are the only that are reasonably durable and also feel like a real dumbell. So in my mind rep pepin then ironmaster. The rest aren't remotely at the same level
No cage > cage every single time. Smaller weight increments > larger every single time, regardless of add-on capabilities. It’s TRULAPs for me. Their quality control is an issue, but they did keep sending me new handles until there weren’t issues.
my hang up with them was the starting weight and for smith the sides moving awkward at different times. prediction: SYL the Chinese knockoffs will be mentioned alot in comments... if not i'll be sure to comment lol

Still gonna hold out and stick to the bowflexes and barbell for now and save my $1000 for when my cinderella dumbells come along. :D
I was really hoping for cat tongues
Love my Ironmasters!
No offense, but I was leaning towards a particular pair of adjustable dumbbells this glorious Black Friday season.. and now I'm on the fence again.
The audacity of using kilos. Us Muricans prefer to have our weights measured in bald eagles, diet Cokes and cheeseburgers.
@@ExpeditionaryRanger I'd like to know where to get those replacement handles because power block said they don't offer compatible kneeled handles.
"The plague" lol😂😂
Ready for my rep x pepin to get here
On the Trulaps, is the domed area just outside the handle made of metal or plastic? It’s hard to tell in all reviews I have seen.
Is that a smith machine attachment on your ares 2.0 behind you?? What is that and does it fit the 80” version?
Love your video
I have one question what do you do with all the extra equipment you have
Clearly I horde it 😂 My friends get a lot of it with the agreement that when I need it back they have to return it, and we sell some of it.
Any tips on installing that vts? It looks sick in the background
Which adjustable set is the best to curl in?
No cage > cage every single time. Smaller weight increments > larger every single time, regardless of add-on capabilities. It’s TRULAPs for me. Their quality control is an issue, but they did keep sending me new handles until there weren’t issues.
Shout-out to all the modern search engines for being absolute cess-pools
Trulaps for me once i save a lil 💸😳
Where's the Ares vs FM Twin stack comparison review???
Drop that VTS review 😏
do i spy bulletproof vts on the rack behind you?
Maybe 😏
my hang up with them was the starting weight and for smith the sides moving awkward at different times.
prediction: SYL the Chinese knockoffs will be mentioned alot in comments... if not i'll be sure to comment lol
Are bowflex any good?
They're very awkward because they don't retract when you're not using all of the weight. I think they'd rank very low on this list.
12:11 You have a VTS?! Where is the review dude??
