You are providing a valuable service to people who are just learning cam. Thank you so much

Thanks, man. This was really helpful. I've been going nuts over stuff just like this while I'm learning the CAM side of Fusion.

Your explanation of the stock contour selection really made things click for me. Diddnt even realize I could pick the selection in the same way as your standard chains! Little details like that are very hard to figuire out on your own.

I know I should have said something before but this is a very useful video to me. While I do not cnc metal I am working with a shopbot on wood and this works for me. :) Thanks again.

In the case that you want to drill that hole first and then clear out the shelf... can you set that up as a single tool path or do you need to create separate ones?

Out of curiosity, why do you prefer selecting contours over selecting the plane? It looked like selecting the plane got you the desired toolpath, so why go to the extra trouble to select contours?

I would've done this OP with a 3D adaptive and just set my bottom height to the shelf and turned rest machining on. Simple.

The stock contour you selected was smaller than the actual stock that you have, would doing this mean you plunge into the part?

Anyone know if a workstation GPU is better for Fusion 360 than a gaming GPU?

fusion360 uses directX for graphics so there's no drawback to gaming gpus (at least last time I checked).

You say we want to select contours not faces, but you don't say why.

I love fusion for what it is, and the fact that it's free, but messing around with stuff like this is why people pay thousands of dollars for powermill. Boundary plane that hole, calculate the block around where we want to cut, and you're done.

Patch surface in fusion and run a 3-d path and done. same

To paraphrase my late mother... for software that is supposed to so smart, Fusion360 sure is dumb.
