"The Art & Science of Forgiveness" with Frederic Luskin, Ph.D.

Forgiveness expert Frederic Luskin, Ph.D. gave this talk at Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin ( hawaiibetsuin.org ), a Shin Buddhist temple in Honolulu, Hawaii, on April 27, 2023. Dr. Luskin will be a keynote speaker at a Forgive for Good Conference on Oahu February 15-17 (see maitreya-insti... ).

About the Speaker
Frederic Luskin, Ph.D., is a leading expert on forgiveness and its benefits for health and happiness, the director of the Stanford University Forgiveness Project, and a Senior Consultant in Health Promotion. His research centers on the intersection of spiritual values and physical and emotional well-being. Dr. Luskin has conducted research and training on forgiveness in various settings, such as post-conflict regions, schools, workplaces, and health care. He has written several books, including "Forgive for Good: A Proven Prescription for Health and Happiness," and has developed and tested a practical “Nine Steps to Forgiveness” method. Dr. Luskin defines forgiveness as “the peace and understanding that comes from lessening the blame of that which has hurt you, taking your life experience less personally, and seeing the cost of holding a grudge.”
About the Host Venue
Honpa Hongwanji Hawaii Betsuin is a Buddhist temple of the Jodo Shinshu denomination, whose mother temple is in Kyoto Japan. It is part of a family of organizations under the umbrella of Honpa Hongwanji Mission of Hawaii, including 30+ temples in Hawaii. In addition to Sunday services and Dharma School (Sunday School), Hawaii Betsuin offers preschool through 8th grade education through Hongwanji Mission School, Scouting and other youth programs, Dharma and social concerns dialogues and events, and opportunities to join affiliated groups such as the Buddhist Women's Association.
