@@Philip-kc2et I agree. Matrix light is the best means to mitigate the obvious limitations of powerful headlights. The problem is that most of those adaptive matrix lights are designed for built-up areas and they are lacking the power needed in rural areas and wintery conditions. Nope. In reality, light bars are very good for driving in dark. But this Lazer bar is just one of those typical designs with not so useful beam shape. Too tall round beam means you waste a lot of light in the tree tops and have to dip early for oncoming traffic. That's why the flat & wide beam works much better for those of us who drive in the dark. We are in minority, but we are here.
@@lenovopad4759 Well i have to disagree with u. Ive tried a lot of ledbars and the Lazer Linear is the absolute best. No one comes even near them. The benefit for tall light is that u dont blind ur self when ur going down a hill and the linear has a really broad light. Its 100m broad at 100m away. Lazer doesnt have this harsh blue light either.
@@bjornolsson9383 thanks, Björn, much appreciated! I see your point now as I found a better video to show the same panel on my favourite Finnish site Jussinmäki.net and I am now convinced of the merits of this panel. Pity the road picked for this video is largely just curves and motorway between crash barriers that limit the visibility. It's hard to see the real width of the beam with hardly any reference outside the road. And I guess we are aiming at the same thing, which is a wide beam like good fog light, but 300+ meters long, right? I won't replace my X-Vision Genesis quite yet, but I keep this Lazer Elite in mind for the future (as my wife's car with a pair of Lazer Triple-R's is due for change soon). One of the advantages is the compact design that makes it easier to hide in the grille (my huge X-Vision bar is ugly as it's just standing on the front bumper. But it's still less ugly than bloody remains of reindeer on the bonnet and wind screen)
I would be interested in seeing these from the perspective of the car that's driving toward it, this is probably be too bright to be safe when driving on public roads.
You're supposed to switch to low beam with incoming traffic. But yes, it would be interesting to see the light from the other side, in this context, whether they are blinding at the point of first sight.
I meet dozens of those big LED-bars pretty much every time when leaving the street light area between October and March and it's absolutely no problem at all (having decent light in my own car too). Your eyes adapt to the light that is available. Feel free to adapt your eyes to as dim light as you wish, but don't ask the others to make the same mistake.
It's amazing how many people seem to think that less light is a good thing? The same argument of "too much" has been used in the past against (at least) agaist 4-wheel brakes, halogen lights, xenon lights, winter tyres, ABS, and pretty much anything that is today considered a safety feature.
Exactly. The same people who screams "This LED bar has too much light" will scream "The Tesla lights sucks because they are too weak compared to the Mercedes lights". Silly.
Honestly I still get people mad at me for my lights. I don't think my headlights are set proper per spec, I had to lower them and I get decent spread. Fog lights are freaking bright as is. LED bars do have a purpose and it's nice to see one on a Tesla.
Bjorn how did the 3's little 12V battery cope with running those for an extended time? Did you get to do any extended night driving with them on before you sold the car & had you upgraded the 12V side?
There seems to be more than one correct answer to this question. I know for fact that it is perfectly legal (at least) in NO, SE and FI. Mandatory annual check-up just verifies proper installation and the grand total of all installed main beams. I took the latest S-Class as an example, as it is carefully engineered to use up the whole quota allowed for single car to put as much light in front of the car as legally possible. Just like Björn's car, my one also left the factory with less powerful lights, so we have just taken our LEGAL RIGHT to add what the factory had forgotten. Park our cars next to new S, walk away 200 - 300 meters and you'll see pretty much the same readings on your lux meter in front of all three cars. In the Nordic countries all three are legal, further south just one. This was a surprise for me as well, as I had thought common EU directives (such as car type approval requirements) means common rules, but apparently that is not the case.

Wow, I didn’t realize the Euro Model 3 got rear fog lights. I wish we could have that here. I do wish the lights were curve following. My old Golf GTI had adaptive lighting system 10 years ago. My 2011 MINI JCW had rally lights installed that were controlled by a little toggle switch on the dash so you could really turn them on and off on the fly.
Actually, the left (standard high beam) looks like low beam. And the right looks like high beam. I mean the standard high beam doesn't shine that high up.

This is really impressive to say the least 😀I am going to get a Lazer linear 12 on my Ioniq, how ever I have to wait until my cars warranty expiers. Because Hyundai wont allow me to mont any external lights. If I do then the warranty expiers. Its really stupid, but thats how it is..
I imagine that will do wonders for AP performance in the dark too. :) Now to install two or three of them? ;) Would it be handy to have the bar enable/disable with e.g. 2 quick taps forward on the stalk? Like you normally do once to enable/disable auto high-beam? It would also be nice to have the end 20% aiming into corners and pick up the CAN-bus feed for the steering position (or yaw change or whatever from the IMU) and turn those on and off accordingly. I'd want those features for the incredibly high 1100 Euros (if my calculations are right) I was expecting more like 300 for light + the ALC extra, the price of which is reasonable. If it included fitting, maybe.
Hey Bjorn, Thanks for making this video. I'm looking to do the same thing on my 2018 Tesla Model S. Do you know if the original brackets worked for your install? Or did you have to buy 3rd party brackets? Thanks!
That's weird timing, I just bought a Stedi ST1K 21.5" LED lightbar for my Model S for my winter trip to Norway. It is specifically ECE approved (E-marked) for legal use across Europe. I'm going to be triggering the LED with the high beam with a CANM8 CANNECT HIGHBEAM, getting the CANBUS signal from the OBD2 port through a switched OBD2 extension cable (cheapest switched OBD2 extension thing off Amazon) so I can still turn it off completely from inside the cabin. The Stedi wiring kit does come with a physical switch for this too, but it's round and lights up red when on so not really mountable in a Tesla (I'll be bypassing that switch).
Matthias the disadvantage with a powerful ledbar is that you have to dim down much earlier than without, if you have adaptive lights which will light up everywhere but the oncoming traffic you will see more of the side of the road. Of course if you never meet traffic and dont mind adding a ledbar to the car its more for you.
@@salamandur I agree. I think this is really useful when you're living in a rural area, lots of land between houses, wooden area and so on. There this much power can be very useful (more useful than a Model 3 maybe ;)). But nothing I would use on a highway or any street with a chance of oncoming traffic.
Mads Randen Of course if you look only at light output. However, you will need to dim down earlier, and if you have poor lowbeam its almost like going blind. I have xenon + ledbar on my car at work, when I meet traffic I need to dim down really early so they dont freak out and flash me.. And when I do I cant almost see anything. Would rather have great adaptive led’s which black out oncoming traffic while still light up the side of the road.
@@Daddelcrusher I'm really surprised that this is allowed without problem. Here in Germany this would be impossible without extra certification and testing by the authorities. A lot of the videos of headlights make them look much worse than reality, look at some from e.g. The Missenden Flyer for motorcycles, e.g. the KTM 1290 SA. Even though this Lazer panel is not my favolurite choice, there is no reason why it would not be used also in EU, depending on the standard lights of the car it is bolted on. ECE approved and ref. 45, so it is perfectly legal on quite many cars.
They are indeed illegal in Germany (§52 StVZO) but, StVZO applies to cars registered in Germany. If you are from an EU country or some country that has some special contracts with the EU (no idea if Norway has this), then you are allowed to drive in Germany (§20 FZV) - as long as safety standards are met (there are court rulings about this). Not really sure if a light bar meets those standards. So tl;dr: It's complicated but since you won't use them on the Autobahn but instead in the middle of nowhere during night, nobody will notice most likely during your stay in Germany.

Very impressive lights! How easy was the install? Did you do it yourself, or have someone install it? I ponder getting one for my Bolt EV . Edit: ah, they installed it for you. Hopefully someone makes something compatible with my EV
What we need now is for manufacturers to integrate lights this powerful into their vehicles but with matrix style, so that oncoming traffic won't be permanently blinded 🤣🤣🤣

So what's the big deal? As you can see, Lazer suffers from the "round tybe" light pattern that is so typical for badly designed LED lights. Tree tops are well illuminated but the beam is not that impressive on road sides. I am one of those who need main beam for winter driving, and based on this video, I am happy to keep X-Vision Genesis. For those who prefer cool white colour temperature, Optibeam Commander is the same panel with different colour temperature.
And that's why everybody who live in Østerdalen have led bars on their cars. No wonder they're a bestsellers at Biltema, cheap and life saving. Good to know that Ev's can get them aswell

Very impressive indeed but is it legal ? I mean its illegal in Germany to put after market LED light in a car that was made for xenon, so im almost sure this is illegal in Germany lol. Also im curious too see on what you would think of Mercedes' "digital light" in the new S-class that will most likely come to the electric Mercedes EQS as well, that light is on another level !
Plenty of light in snowy scenery is just nice view to Winter Wonderland, which is very relaxing to the eye that gets used to it quickly. But sometimes the reflection back from the traffic signs can cause rather irritating glare. I sometimes switch to low beam just for traffic sign even if there is no other traffic.

Seeing animals, both wild and domestic, in time instead of running over them IS respect.
Sirius Inceptum that’s why quality cars have Matrix lights which work really well
@@Philip-kc2et I agree. Matrix light is the best means to mitigate the obvious limitations of powerful headlights. The problem is that most of those adaptive matrix lights are designed for built-up areas and they are lacking the power needed in rural areas and wintery conditions. Björn's video is shot in easy conditions. Double or treble the stopping distance on snow and ice, add reindeers on the road and you see why those of us living here need a bit more light than folks driving in motorways. Top of the range headlight are a must feature in my next car.
Well, as good as it is, it's forbidden in Switzerland. Nearly every change with lighting Systems are forbidden here.
I wanted to change the headlight from my Motorbike from Halogen to LED, but there is no chance to make that in a legal way...
Same in Italy
In Finland you can't even change licence plate lights to LED.. lol

Elegant solution with the control box. But seemed to not respond and needed to do the mode change twice.
Light bars are ideal for off-roading. Seems like another solution to a nonexistent problem.
@@lenovopad4759 Tell that to all Scandinavians. :)
Imagine you blink someone because he cuts you and you blink with the led bar :D
It's amazing how many people seem to think that less light is a good thing? The same argument of "too much" has been used in the past against (at least) agaist 4-wheel brakes, halogen lights, xenon lights, winter tyres, ABS, and pretty much anything that is today considered a safety feature.
Exactly. The same people who screams "This LED bar has too much light" will scream "The Tesla lights sucks because they are too weak compared to the Mercedes lights". Silly.
I was wondering when you were gonna get this upgrade. Already rocking it on my model 3. Love it!
It's also works great to get attention of left lane huggers. So great to have, summer or winter 😁
Honestly I still get people mad at me for my lights. I don't think my headlights are set proper per spec, I had to lower them and I get decent spread. Fog lights are freaking bright as is.
LED bars do have a purpose and it's nice to see one on a Tesla.
Wow great lights. Me want, me really don't need. I probably spend less than 5 minutes per year driving on high beam.
Bjorn how did the 3's little 12V battery cope with running those for an extended time? Did you get to do any extended night driving with them on before you sold the car & had you upgraded the 12V side?
I live in a country where there are street lights everywhere including the highways. It's hard to find a stretch of road that's not properly lit.
Holy shit man that is powerful
Scrolling thru comments I can’t believe how many people ask if it’s legal. Scroll down at least once before asking a question.
I need to get me one of them LED bars. That is really awesome!
In Portugal this is illegal, only allowed for offroad and have to be covered in roads.

This ledbar is measured to be lower wattage than advertised, as most on the market. I think i saw 108w real power somewhere.

Today, my Ionic5 dealer offered my a Lazer 18, mounted by the dealer 😁. I am waiting for my car, with the Lazer 😎
I went for the osram vx500 cb, installed myself.. Saved a lot of $$
Really happy with it 😀
But with the Matrix lights you can drive with high beam all the time. The car just masks out the meeting cars. With this you have to dim down.
Show us how you clean your Model 3!
Why wouldn't you wanna use the light bar? I mean you will still use the normal high beam, why not use the light bar too? i'm so confused...
Hey Bjorn,
Thanks for making this video.
More a fan of a good led matrix light.
This thing has a way too high beam in my opinion. Don't see an advantage for light in 3/4m height.
Once I was in Stockholm I was really overwhelmed by all the extra lights on the cars (front beams like on rallye cars). But of course, that is needed in nordic countries.

Judging by the video the original TM3 high beam light pattern is rather disappointing on winding country roads in the dark.
A lot of the videos of headlights make them look much worse than reality, look at some from e.g. The Missenden Flyer for motorcycles, e.g. the KTM 1290 SA. He's talking about how amazing they are in the video, but the footage makes them look terrible, I have one of those bikes and they are amazing - and they have cornering lights built in too.

It's a pity, now you cannot travel to Germany any longer ... illegal there and probably in many other countries as well
really?
@@whuzzzup thanks for this. I was already wondering why the police is never interested in my car at all even though I never leave home without proper lights.
