Interesting to find out about that brutalist Bank of England building (demolished in 2012) - for such a substantial building a surprisingly short life. Wiki says nothing about BoE properties though, so I couldn't find out what it was built for.
I would argue the exact opposite 9,000 staff commuting to a longbenton with poor transport links is madness. Newcastle is the centre of Tyneside transport links so it makes the most sense to locate it there.
i dont think they will all be commuting to newcastle at same time some will be part time, some work from home, some travelling, and a lot on different shifts, some on holiday
@@JordanReeve The new site has no parking to speak off, which will force everyone who currently drives to work to have to use public transport. Last time I worked in newcastle trains and metro's were unreliable and packed to standing room only many times.... Plenty of parking for staff can be found on google maps at HMRC sites that are closing...
some redevelopment was definitely needed but Newcastle centre is quickly becoming stale & corporate, bars , cafes etc are taking over & all the little shops that made the area special are now harder to find. Knocking down the Odeon was a crime, lost forever now :(
Pilgram Street is named after the sirian monks who pilgramed hear and defended newcastle during battles and sieges due to the men not of this world who ruled hear, that's why newcastle was once called monkchester, our city's history has been whipped out our city destroy, Newcastle was known as the bullwauk against the scotts that could never take the city fortress until they with the English from the south, welch and Irish teamed up to take this kingdom during the last civil War when they killed our king and then they set about destroying our magnificent city and our spectacular walls and towers, New castle castle is nothing more than a tower that is not our city's castle

I believe Bank of England used to have regional branches in all major cities. A google for that should show up more information on this !
T Dan Smith & Co ruined this area of the city as well as other parts 🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
Tyneside life recommended you,and he wasn't wrong...well done young man
Excellent Jordan, interesting to regeneration in action.
PS: Much appreciate that you do not ask for ‘like and subscribe’ at the end of the video.
Aha thanks Martyn, think there’s nothing worse than asking people to like a video. They already know how RUclips works haha

why would you relocate hmrc into Newcastle city centre ? 9,000 staff commuting in & out of a very smsll city is madness .

Excellent videos but I’m afraid I find the music unnecessary and intrusive.
Thanks Ray! Noted about the music
Hi Jordan, did you need to get copyright permission to use Google Earth? I’m thinking of using it. Cheers 👍🏻

Really interesting history Lee, I didn’t know any of that. I would love to learn more about this? Do you have any good sources?
😍
No more mindless crap architecture.
I "sort of" enjoyed this video, thx.
