Beautiful tree Mr Chan, please do an update in future, I'd love to see what this tree looks like in full candle and by the end of next summer . Thank you . 🎄
What a wonderful Christmas gift! I could not have wished for more than to see how this odd tree was transformed into something wonderful. A million thanks! Merry Christmas!
Rudolf Steiner said, the trunk of a tree is like raised earth, on which flowers and plants grow, like on a meadow. I remembered this after watching your video. It really feels this way. Merry Christmas, and a happy 2020 to you, your family, and all Heron staff!
Merry Christmas Peter & Co. This gave me some great ideas, my 60+ year old Juniper that I dug up is starting to show some growth, can't wait for spring so I can figure out where to trim it since it's over 4' long, one root had most of the small roots so I will have to see if some sprout out the other direction so I can trim it to a smaller pot but just happy to see I didn't kill it and it was saved from the dump.
Peter I hope this become a Christmas day tradition along with the Queens speech and watching SCROOGE. Wishing You, the family and all your team a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
Awww it looks like Peter is covered in snow during the carving session. Perfect for the Christmas episode! :D Happy Christmas and a happy new year, guys
(1:13) The video has just begun and I see that she hasn't fallen so much as she is searching for something. For context: It must have been twenty years ago now, a friend who is an avid tarot reader asked me to provide some sketches for a new deck they were working on. I knew nothing of the craft at the time, but I loved the idea that a story could find life in the shuffling of a deck of cards, and what I then learned still pops up from time to time when familiar archetypes appear. This tree reminds me of what might happen somewhere between the Tower and the Star. Hope is born among the rubble of chaos and misfortune. It's the promise that all can never be lost for those who endeavor to raise another up. Anyway, enough rambling. A pot of coffee demands to be made. Then back to the video. (11:50) I was totally thinking about a Dremel while you guys were incising the bark. I hope my instincts stay on point for *at least* another week. (13:38) I'm again reminded that it's time to upgrade my Dremel. I picked up a 7300 last summer and burned up the battery pack carving just two queens and a bishop for my son's chess set. (17:28) Ha! The first time I tried using hair clippers was in training at Ft. Gordon. It was similarly disastrous. The following morning I found myself standing in formation with a hangover, a very uncomfortable chill on my freshly bald noggin, and a face full of Drill Instructor who couldn't stop laughing long enough to properly yell at me. (26:24) That's a great analogy. A while back, my wife ordered a pair of stiletto boots online. When they arrived, she wanted to try them on, but no matter how hard she shoved her feet flat-out refused to cooperate. I must've worn them around the house for three days trying to break them in for her. They now collect dust in the spare bedroom, and I'll probably never get rid of this ingrown toenail. Balance is highly underrated... The final shot shows a much more dramatic transformation than I anticipated. Are there videos available on the wiring that was done? Also, please let your assistant know that he has phenomenal taste in flannel.
There is a lot of footage showing the wiring but we thought it would be too boring so we decided to cut it out. We could put it on if you and others would like to see it. And BTW why didn't your wife send the boots back - expensive mistake!!
Another top quality video Peter..always learning watching your stuff. Id like to see you doing something with left over christmas trees in the new year. I always feel its a waste seeing them put out for the bin men this time of year. Im gonna have a go myself but never dealt with spruce so a tutorial would be amazing. All the best...
I really like this sweeping tree. I have a little tree that an over enthusiastic person put a nasty nick in the trunk with a electric saw. I filled it with plaster and then used acrylic paints to blend it in. No one can see it even if I point it out.
Mr. Chan, thank you for your wonderful videos, I love watching you create these beautiful specimens on the spot....it is quite inspiring. I can't wait to find a tree 'in the raw' and try it myself. I've watched many of your videos and I feel ready to try (something simple). I have not yet seen a video of how to care for the bonsai once I've created it! Can you give a quick tutorial? ;)
Merry Xmas guys. Really enjoyed watching your inspirational videos this year. Hope to see many more soon. Wishing you all a safe and prosperous 2020. 🌲🌳🎄
So the flap is a real technique. I recently made a bonsai from a Dwarf Alberta Spruce and needed to remove some large branches. I decided to try some of the flap techniques that I learned about in medical school and concepts from tree grafting. There were some unsightly bulges with those branches, so instead of leaving a large area to scar, I peeled back the bark as a flap, then removed the branch and carved the bulge down to size. Then, to give it the best chance to heal, I wrapped it in a plastic wrap used for pallets (I don't have grafting tape), and wrapped it with a cut rubber band/elastic to hold everything together in place while it healed. It's still wrapped, but I hope that it will heal well.
Hello Peter! I was recently looking through my copy of bonsai master class, and in the chapter about raising seeds and cuttings is a section about clip and grow training and a section on wiring young material. It mentions in the clip and grow method a 2 year old tree is transplanted grown out for another year and is cut back to half original height in the spring of the 4th year. I was hoping you could clarify what this means, whether it means cutting back to half the original 2nd year growth or half of the new growth produced in the 3rd year. The book mentions repeating this yearly, in slightly different wording for the 5th year cutting to just 2 or 3 nodes. I was planning on using this method for a really nice baby oak that is going into its 3rd year of growth soon. Thanks! :)
When you were struggling with the nippers on the Jin, I thought you might prefer a tool that blacksmiths (farrier, horseshoes) use. They are bigger more powerful nippers used to cut the extremely hard horse’s hoof. Very sharp. Have you ever seen one of those?
Every time I'm watching your greatest apprentice Padma working, I have the impression of looking at a retired special ops or presidential bodyguard, perhaps a hitman, doing his work in a peaceful and retired state.
All pines lose their old needles (ie the second and third year needles). so don't worry if the old needles are falling off. If they are losing all their needles, then something is wrong.
Being a carpenter since i was 15 i always worry about the way people hold their knifes. A carpenter's razor would have worked nicely as long as you do not pry with it. A sharp knife may seem more dangerous but a dull knife will cut you just as easily. Remember to always cut away from your hand that isn't holding the knife. Wish everyone good health in 2020.
This is absolutely Hilarious I'm binge watching a Bonsai Man 50 minutes from where I live do surgery on a tree. On Boxing day. I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
Wishing all our RUclips fans a very HAPPY CHRISTMAS !
Cheers you to. Thanks for all the great videos
Happy Christmas to you Mr. Chan. Thank you for sharing your talent and knowledge.

They are trees mate, not new born babys.
What a wonderful Christmas gift! I could not have wished for more than to see how this odd tree was transformed into something wonderful. A million thanks! Merry Christmas!

Thanks again for another amazing video Peter. I have a smaller simular Mugo pine that I didn't know what to do with, but now I do.

I am not the Queen Brian. But I will continue to post these videos as long as I am able.
Peter any chance of grafting a branch onto a Conifer/Pine/deciduous tree video for the new year?
@@briankavanagh7191 - I dont do much grafting as I am not very good at that.

This turned out quite nice.
I liked the layering and the carving was very well handled.....the repotting was a disaster with the uncovering of the narrow trunk...
I'm a bit late but I hope you had a very happy Christmas and I wish you,
everyone at Herons and all the other viewers here all the best for 2020!
wow final look is way better than before 🌱🌲💚 Merry Christmas to you and the team

How did you put back the removed bark?
It's a big improvement I hope the limb survives. It was intense to watch the operation.
Thank Peter for wonderful 2019 have a merry Christmas

Easier if I show this principle on RUclips one day

interesting approach I commend you Master Chan..

Merry Christmas !
Wesołych Świąt Bożego Narodzenia oraz szczęśliwego Nowego Roku ..🎆✨🎇
Happy Chrismas Peter.
Nice job on the pine peter and co. Nice job removing its Adam's Apple too 😉
Does look like an Adam's Apple
I would love to see the update video on this tree.
What was the name of the tool bit you carved with?
Hello peter.. Merry Christmas.
I had a question... My scots pine his needles turning yellow. Can it bee the tree gets to many rain?
All pines lose their old needles (ie the second and third year needles). so don't worry if the old needles are falling off. If they are losing all their needles, then something is wrong.
How is it that the weight of the trunk doesn’t tip the pot over? Bless you snd Merry Christmas to all viewers
Happy Christmas peter 🎄🎄🎄
Would be nice to see how that carved out bit heals over

Can you provide a link to the bit you used?
Merry Christmas from Sevilla, Spain¡¡
This is absolutely Hilarious I'm binge watching a Bonsai Man 50 minutes from where I live do surgery on a tree. On Boxing day.
I hope everyone had a Merry Christmas.
Amazing thanks for the video
Merry Christmas Peter. How long will it take the bark to regrow?
It will callous a bit but the bare wood will always be there as a bit of driftwood
It will be interesting to see. I’m new to this, but have learned a lot I haven’t known thanks to you. Thank you very much.
I am 31. How long will my rooted scots pine cuttings take? Do you think they will look nice when I am 60?
could this be put upside-down horizontally, like a swan neck?
Merry Christmas Mr Chan . Thank you for all you do. Got one of your books for Christmas 🎄❤
What is a good time to repot scotes pine?
Did this tree survive? If so, could we have a look at it?🙂
Very nice. Thank you for this.
Great detail
Sand pine bonsai
Is it popular or not?
Peter you have a good student ( Joshua)
I always thought cascade bonsais have no tops but I saw your videos where u said they do.. so why doesn‘t this one have one
