It was really well designed system. Atleast it didnt wipe out radio and tv like the russian system did. Look up the radio tracking system we built, it was nearly as accurate as todays gps which was amazing in the era it was made.
Trouble is the Russians have just announced they now have ballistic missiles that can't be tracked because they fly an unpredictable route to their target. @@jewell278 and beards :-p
Unlike Israel the UK doesn't have a missile shield, so whilst Fylingdales tech is impressive, it's rather futile.
The sorts of weapons they're looking for can't be defeated with a missile shield, and would most likely incur a retaliation from a Vanguard submarine
So it's obsolete now.
such a vital defense installation and it's not that well defended ha ha ha ha
Jetsio Manuna to be fair, who’s going to attack it?
Have you been to that part of Yorkshire? It doesn't need defending.
Try acting funny around there and see what happens. I was with a group of students on a field course and we stopped to dig a hole to look at soil structure. Within a few minutes we had a helo overhead watching us.
@@phaedracollins6051 Wow, the UK forces must be very idle if they can spare a helicopter for something like that despite the fact that UK has only 150 helicopters in their entire military.
Bet they get some UFO pick ups on radar.
"On a visit to RAF Fylingdales in 1997, RSG members were told that the radar’s software is designed to ignore targets that do not behave like a rocket being launched or a satellite in orbit. It is little surprise, therefore, that the RAF says that the station has never detected a UFO in flight!"
Is it wise to trust these sheep with our missiles?
Baaa - listic missiles
Raf officer wearing a beard?
It's a little facial hair. Big deal.
You have to apply to be able to grow facial hair, either that or you have to have a medical note for not shaving. The forces have changed since my days, and you can have some tattoo's. Hell you can even be gay now, in my days it was illegal and a chargeable offence with a dishonourable discharge.
@@MarkNorville I understand that the British military does allow their officers to grow their beards provided one has a thick one a la King George V. Prince Charles sported a beard during his days in the Royal Navy. As a matter of fact the RN has always allowed beards, but never moustaches alone, since the early 20th century has permitted its members to wear only a "full set" (i.e. a full beard and moustache). Of course many netizens commenting here don't even grow beards just yet.
@Davey Duff In all fairness he doesn't look like the sort of chap who needs a safe space, he probably wouldn't have joined up either
I think its changed for the better
I bet they see quite a lot of U F O s but will they tell us. ? I guess NOT ?
MOST ABSORBING INSIGHT TO A VERY IMPORTANT NEED TO KEEP OUR NATION SAFE.
@MercyReaper and you know this because?
so the entire countries defense comes down to someone sitting there putting nail polish on and probably texting:)
What defence? The radar doesn't shoot down the incoming threat. UK has nothing to shoot down the threat with.
